Warren Huntly’s Saturday Caulfield Preview Posted on March 15, 2024March 15, 2024 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 CARINI did some early work in a stronger race second up and looks well placed stepping up in trip and dropping in grade on the minimum weight. MURAMASA did enough first up in the same race as Carini and will also appreciate the rise in trip. MANKAYAN would be better suited with some give in the ground but will be close to peak fitness now. GEAR UP was close up behind Mankayan last start, so must have some claims. Selections: 7,3,5,6 Suggested Bet: Carini to win Race 2 FISTOFFURY chased a smart one and improved nicely with the application of blinkers last start. SOCKS NATION isn’t badly treated under the weight scale, she can make her own luck and looks suited dropping back in distance. AMBASSADORIAL will be close to peak fitness now and shapes as the likely leader. MAGNOLIA LODGE had no luck at a crucial stage in an easier race last time. Selections: 1,7,2,3 Suggested Bet: Fistoffury to win Race 3 FUROIUS has been jumping out in good style to resume and has run well at both his first up run to date. WOLFY held his ground ok in stronger company last start, he’ll strip fitter and swaps blinkers for winkers. WHITE BEAR dominated an easier race first up, he still has a bit to learn but has plenty of upside. CRACKHORN has trialled well to resume. Selections: 5,10,9,4 Suggested Bet: Furious each way Race 4 GENERAL BEAU is a quality sprinter with a handy first up record and has looked sharp in his recent jumpouts. JIGSAW is also proven at a high level and has been jumping put in typically good style. LEMPICKA endured a wide run in the Oakleigh Plate and will appreciate the drop in grade. VIVIANNE did enough first up and has jumped out nicely since. Selections: 2,1,3,4 Suggested Bet: General Beau each way Race 5 NUGGET held his ground ok at Group 1 WFA level first up and looks well placed in the grade second up. KEATS continues to run well, he swaps blinkers for a visor and will make his own luck. ARRAN BAY got the right run to score second up, he gets a significant weight drop and will strip even fitter. FIRST IMMORTAL is a promising stayer who has jumped out well to kick off at a suitable trip. Selections: 1,6,2,4 Suggested Bet: Nugget to win Same Race Multi: Nugget (Top 2) + Keats (Top 4) Race 6 Doubt 1100m will pull up BOLD BASTILLE at this level and she looks the one to beat again. IMMORTAL STAR broke her maiden in good style when well supported first up. She was safely held by Bold Bastille on debut but has no doubt improved and there’s depth to the form around her maiden victory. YES LULU was well backed on debut and may have had some excuses after bring slowly away. SKY CAP has been well in the market and performed accordingly at her two runs to date. COMANCHE MISS faces a tough task on debut but has jumped out well. Selections: 2,3,7,1 Suggested Bet: Bold Bastille to win Race 7 PEACE TREATY ticked the good track box last start and jumped out in impressive fashion since. She looks hard to catch with 52kg on her back. WALTZ ON BY was good last start, particularly considering her modest first up record and she generally improves second up. PAPILLON CLUB will improve over further but has a touch of class and has been trialling well, as has LADY JONES. MY BELLA MAE has jumped out nicely, albeit in a slow heat, since arriving back in Melbourne and maps for a good run. Selections: 11,4,1,6 Suggested Bet: Peace Treaty to win Race 8 MR BRIGHTSIDE has looked in some difficulty at both runs this prep but finds a way to win. He’ll have some chasing to do again behind PRIDE OF JENNI and BUFFALO RIVER but he’s hard to tip against. PRIDE OF JENNI puts it all on the line and has that victory over MR B in the Champions Mile. CASCADIAN is proven at the elite level and should be close to his peak third up. AYRTON had no luck at a crucial stage last start and maps for a good run following a strong speed. DESERT LIGHTNING brings solid NZ Group 1 form. Selections: 1,12,2,9 Suggested Bet: Mr Brightside to win Race 9 Competitive race, as you’d expect for the final of a series. DASHING DUCHESS won in good style first up and is likely to have been kept on the fresh side with this race in mind. Her stablemate ACTAEON had plenty of excuses after enduring a wide run at Colac last time, he’ll need some luck from the wide draw here but has the talent to be fighting out the finish. SIR ATLAS improved nicely second up, you’d expect he’s improve again with this race as a target. UNSEEN RULER is another that might need luck from the draw but he stuck on well behind Sir Atlas last start. HASSELTOFF hit the line well behind Dashing Duchess last start and is hard fit. Selections: 7,3,1,4 Suggested Bet: Dashing Duchess each way Race 10 REY MAGNERIO can’t be improving at this stage of his campaign but if he holds his form from the Oakleigh Plate he’ll be hard to beat. SWEET RIDE gets a visor on, he’s going better than his form reads and didn’t have the best of luck last start. MAHARBA will strip fitter and appreciate a likely stronger tempo than last time. BANK MAUR may be looking for further but will be strong late. GRAND IMPACT resumes from a lengthy break but has obvious talent and has been trialling/jumping out well. Selections: 9,6,11,2 Suggested Bet: Rey Magnerio to win Market Market
