Trent Cooper’s Gloucester Park Preview Posted on July 13, 2023July 13, 2023 | Posted by Trent Cooper Race 1 HOPPYS WAY (1) led from a wide draw when 2nd in the WA Derby three starts back and resumed with an unlucky 5th to Watching Our Coin. He should have no trouble leading from the pole and should prove hard to catch. PAUL EDWARD (8) has the best form in the event and is capable of overcoming his wide draw. ETON ROCK (2) has been thereabouts of late and should be in a prominent position throughout. HIGH PRICE (6) has won two of his last three starts and must be considered but will find this harder. Tips: 1 8 2 6 Suggested Bet: HOPPYS WAY (1) to win. Race 2 BLITZEMBYE (1) is a talented frontrunner who hasn’t had the opportunity to lead recently and he should prove very hard to beat from the pole. KIMBLE (2) was an impressive first-up winner for a new stable here last week and looks the obvious danger. BEAT CITY (3) should settle just behind the speed and looks a good place chance. MOONLITE DRIVE (6) is drawn poorly but he faced the breeze when a strong 2nd to The Mustang here last week and can make his presence felt again. Tips: 1 2 3 6 Suggested Bet: MEA CULPA (1) to win. Race 3 MEA CULPA (2) was sent out as a short-priced favourite here last week but he was surprisingly crossed from the pole before finishing 4th to Kimble. He is drawn inside his main rivals here and will be hard to beat if he can find the front. MASTER PUBLISHER (3) faced the breeze when a solid 2nd in the same race and should be in the finish if he can reproduce that effort. ROCKABALL (6) is first-up but he has plenty of ability and can play a part. GEE SMITH (1) doesn’t have the class of many of his rivals but can sneak into the money from the pole draw. Tips: 2 3 6 1 Suggested Bet: MEA CULPA (2) to win. Race 4 THE AMBER HARE (4) is first-up without a trial but is the class mare of this field and is clearly the one to beat. FIFTY FIVE REBORN (3) didn’t feature at her first run back from a spell but she has trialled nicely since and will give a great sight if she can find the front. AMERICAN ARMA (5) ran a nice 2nd in a similar event here last week but isn’t as well drawn tonight. STORMYSKYES (1) doesn’t have the class of her rivals but will be competitive from the pole. Tips: 4 3 5 1 Suggested Bet: THE AMBER HARE (4) to win. Race 5 STEEL THE SHOW (1) won his first four starts in WA and finished his campaign with a 7m 4th in the Nullabor. He resumes here without a trial but he should lead and prove hard to beat. PATRONUS STAR (2) is a talented sit and sprint conveyance who will be charging home if he sees daylight at the right time. MINSTREL (4) has the best record of the Bond runners but is likely to be in the breeze here and is also first-up. THE CODE BREAKER (8) was an eye-catching 3rd here last week but the draw makes it tough. Tips: 1 2 4 8 Suggested Bet: STEEL THE SHOW (1) to win. Race 6 CARABAO (1) followed four consecutive 2nds with an all-the-way win from the stand here at his last start. He ran home in 55.6 on that occasion and he will be hard to catch if he can produce a similar performance. STREET HAWK (7) is resuming without a trial but is the class runner of the field and must be respected. WATCHING OUR COIN (6) has impressed in winning his last four on end but has only been in the money once from his six attempts from the stand. CHAL PATCH (4) has won his last two starts by big margins but goes up in class tonight. Tips: 1 7 6 4 Suggested Bet: CARABAO (1) to win. Race 7 CLOUD NINE (5) is building up to his first WA win and put the writing on the wall with a solid 2nd here last week after starting from the back line. ONESMARTFELLA (8) drops considerably in class for this assignment and will be hard to hold out if he gets the right cart into the race. ALCIPPES DELIGHT (11) hasn’t been that far away in stronger races and can figure at odds here. NAME IN LIGHTS (1) has only been placed twice in his last 13 starts but can improve from the pole. Tips: 5 8 11 1 Suggested Bet: CLOUD NINE (5) to win. Race 8 AUGUST MOON (4) had the wood over FLY TO FAME (3) last time in and won three of her last four starts before going for a spell. She resumes here without a trial but still appeals as the one to beat. FLY TO FAME (3) has race fitness on her side and is the obvious danger after winning her last three starts. SPORTING GRACE (5) has won three of her last five starts and could upset the favoured pair if the race is run to suit. PUREST COPPER (6) was only 4.4m behind FLY TO FAME (3) when 3rd at her last start and can be placed at odds again. Tips: 4 3 5 6 Suggested Bet: AUGUST MOON (4) to win. Race 9 FRANCO ENCORE (3) sat on HEEZ A VIBE (5) and was an impressive winner at his last start and is the one to beat again after drawing inside his main rivals. HEEZ A VIBE (5) only knocked up late when 2nd to his stablemate in that event and will give a great sight if he finds the front again. MENEMSHA (4) showed plenty of ability in his first campaign and is one to watch first-up. COPY CAT QUEEN (6) is drawn poorly but impressed in a recent Bunbury trial victory and should be charging home. Tips: 3 5 4 6 Suggested Bet: FRANCO ENCORE (3) to win. Market Market
