Chris Nelson’s Saturday Eagle Farm Preview Posted on July 13, 2023 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Should there be market support for the resuming TANGO FEVER I’m happy to follow it in. First start for the Heathcote yard she looked good in a recent Doomben barrier trial victory & her two outings to date definitely good enough to get away with this. Thought SPIRIT OF BRODIE did a good job at the Sunshine Coast behind a smart type, sat deep throughout however didn’t shirk his task one bit. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: TANGO FEVER TO WIN (follow market support) RACE 2 BIG watch on what the market does here with DEVASTATING who hasn’t been to the races for just over 400 days. Thought his recent trial win was good & if fit enough he’ll give this a shake. Stablemate LI’L WONDER is having his first run for Tony Gollan & also trialled well enough recently to suggest she can make an impression first up. ZOUMETEOR gave nothing else a chance from the front winning a recent midweeker, this is harder however he’s drawn well & has the all-important race fitness. Numbers: 4 – 11 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics RACE 3 CARBONETTI backs up off a close up second at Doomben last Saturday which was his first run for 6 weeks. Going for home into the straight he looked to have the race in his keeping before running out of puff late being cut down near the line. Fitter, well weighted & drawn a gate he gains the run of the race on paper. INUWASHI continues to race very well, steps up from midweek to Saturday grade. OZ LEGEND will appreciate the drop back in grade. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: CARBONETTI EACH-WAY RACE 4 Happy to take the good odds each-way about GAIUS who goes around third up this afternoon. That was in a fast run midweeker behind the promising Black On Beauty who won by a space, whilst never a winning chance he did find the line well & this trip looks suitable from the kind draw. MERITABLE has to be the hardest to beat, third run back off a year’s break he should be near his peak & keep in mind was Group 1 placed back in 2021. REJOICED looks the clear leader on paper & maps to take running down. CHARLIE’S CASE one for the exotics. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: GAIUS EACH-WAY RACE 5 Tricky race. Good early support for CYGNET RIVER is not surprising as he looks to have plenty of upside. Only lightly raced & coming off a second start maiden win this is no easy task taking on the older more seasoned gallopers however he will be suited by the step up in trip & has already won on the track. CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE broke through for a well overdue win last start, gut feel is he wants further however can’t be left out. MISHANI MISSILE is always thereabouts & is a must for exotics players. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: CYGNET RIVER EACH-WAY RACE 6 Keen on the chances of WEGOBAM who should lap up the mile trip on the big track. She’s a very consistent mare who can really find the line & that’s certainly been the case at her past couple with the latest particularly impressive as the tempo up front wasn’t to suit. This looks the ideal race for her with the light weight another positive. ANCIENT GIRL comes out of the same last start race, she was the winner however as mentioned had plenty in her favour. CANASTA in the mix. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: WEGOBAM TO WIN RACE 7 Two main chances in this being the very much in-form & last start winner BLAZE A TRAIL & the mare who missed a run at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight back FLEETWOOD MACA. She wasn’t on her best behaviour that day doing a runner from the gates & getting loose before eventually caught. Her effort first up was very good running on & I don’t think the gap between starts will be an issue. BLAZE A TRAIL was tough winning at Doomben last week after sitting wide throughout, settles back may need to overcome a leisurely run race here? SHAQUERO hasn’t won for ever however he drops plenty in grade for this. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet: FLEETWOOD MACA EACH-WAY RACE 8 ENTERPRISE POMME looks well suited in this race bar the barrier however with three clear leaders in the race she should be able to angle in for a trail with the well fancied Manhood. They do appear the main two chances however with a 3.5kg weight pull off a recent meeting in the mares favour today I’ll stick with her. MANHOOD can be forgiven for the run in Sydney where the pace was far too strong. KINLOCH in the mix also, on paper he’s likely looking for further now however he has been kept fresh off the first up placing. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: ENTERPRISE POMME EACH-WAY RACE 9 Big field with many of the main chances coming up with bad alleys, this race could change a lot after official scratchings. The two with upside are FREEDOM RALLY & VODKA MARTINI who resumed recently putting in strong efforts with the former winning & the latter running a game placing. NORTHERN EXPRESS hit the line strongly from well back first up at the Sunshine Coast, yet another with a wide gate though! Numbers: 5 – 4 – 2 – 15 Suggested Bet: HATCHET TO WIN/VODKA MARTINI TO WIN Market Market
