Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 15, 2020December 16, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HOT MIX was an impressive debut winner and while she will have to come from midfield (against the likely pattern) she does look above average and capable of sitting off them and making it two from two. WARM N FUZZY brings the intrigue to the race after a fast jump and run trial performance with the shades on. There is speed drawn underneath but if Brad Parnham crosses it might well be game set match. TALKALICIOUS is on debut off only 400m jump outs but did look to have a bit in hand at the most recent when winning. MORE SNITZEL comes back in trip and should improve. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – HOT MIX WIN RACE 2 APACHE PATROL looks raw and green but certainly has a motor under the hood. SJ Miller does have a knack of unearthing these ever improving types and he looks to fit that profile. Expecting the fence to be the place to be on Wednesday and if he can hold up leader’s back behind London Miss (or whoever takes it up) then he’s the one to beat. LONDON MISS is a query at 1200m but she has been going well and in a race without a deal of speed claiming apprentice Carleen Hefel may elect to take it up. DOMINEER was a great trial and took it to race day with an impressive maiden win. TOWN HALL is far better suited in this grade than against the current midweek 3 year olds. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – APACHE PATROL WIN RACE 3 REBEL HEART is a big unknown in this race. Was a nice trialler as a 2 year old and then only had the one outing when finishing a distant eighth beaten 7L. Trusting in Darren McAuliffe to have her fit enough to run out a strong 1500m first-up no trial and this is probably as weak a field as she will see in maiden grade. No weight, in-form stable/jock. As good a lead as any. ACE PLACE has also only had one start but when you consider that the horses who beat him home were Snickerdoodledandy, She’s God To You, Blow Me Out, Olden, Surveillance and Shock Result (beating home Miss Ivy League) this is a much weaker race. CHOKSLAM gets back, lays in, lays out, will be short and has burnt punters many times in a short career. KEYTRADE was bitterly disappointing last start, improver. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – REBEL HEART EACHWAY RACE 4 LAYLO has come back to racing in arguably career best form. Ran them ragged last start when leading throughout and running time as well. Steps to 1800m, has no weight after the claim of Keshaw Dhurun and should get conditions to suit. No surprise to see her cause the minor upset. REGENT STAR is flying and you could say he is in career best as well. Smaller field suits and the way he’s going he’ll flash late. NO SURRENDER has probably been the best placed horse in WA this season. Massive question mark at 1800m but takes on limited opposition. BLAISZEN CAZAH gets the soft run on the fence. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – LAYLO WIN RACE 5 CLASSY MARO was a surprise winner second-up when demolishing them against the pattern when sitting leader’s back, peeling around the leader’s heels and winning running away from them. Then went into a much deeper and tougher race than this and had no luck under Brad Rawiller when unable to get going when he wanted to. Madi Derrick back on, back in grade, looks a capable and improving type. OHBEEH was a shade disappointing first-up. He is progressive and expecting him to continue through the grades this campaign. GHOST WHO WALKS gets weight relief and should enjoy the run of the race. WORTH A RISK put on a clinic last start albeit in far weaker grade. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – CLASSY MACRO EACHWAY RACE 6 REVEUSE had no luck last start when held up at crucial stages, unable to build momentum into the race and then never got clear at any stage. C3 back into a C1, senior rider on and did run some very strong races in Saturday Graduation company over 1800m and 2000m at Ascot last campaign. Thin race and his best chance in a while. OUR D’AMOUR was able to take the step from maiden grade into C1 last time out with a strong on speed effort after doing a power of early work. ARROWSWIFT gets out in trip and can improve sharply. SHOWADDYWADDY didn’t get the best of luck last start. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – REVEUSE EACHWAY RACE 7 EXCELLENT DREAM is a lightly raced, progressive type resuming from a spell. Has done a few things wrong in his short career but when he puts it all together he is a very talented animal. Loved his recent trial without blinkers, brilliant use of Carleen Hefel’s 3kg claim and from the draw should nearly bounce straight to the top. Hard to beat. LEICA JAGUAR gunned them down last week and looks an improving get-back sprinter. DAM READY has bled ratings points for 18 months and is back in winnable company. MY DEMI should box seat from the draw and run a race. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – EXCELLENT DREAM WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,4,5 1,3,5,6 2,5,7,9 3,10 Market Market
