Scott Embry’s Wednesday Northam Preview Posted on July 1, 2025July 1, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ZOURUN RUN trialled nicely at Belmont Park behind the undefeated Fiery Spark when settling rearwards and winding up nicely late into second (after sitting deep for a portion of the trial). She was a high-priced yearling and looks like she’ll be winning races. GENTLEMAN’S CODE is quick. He won his 400m jump out by 3.5L and then led his 1000m trial before being run down late by smart types Twisted Steel and Radiant Light. BUCKLED has race experience and will find this easier than last start running into In Confidence. BEAU’S A LAD probably would have preferred if this was 1200m but the barrier helps. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – ZOURUN RUN WIN RACE 2 YOU CAN CALL ME AL trialled nicely leading into his debut and then was completely luckless when held up the entire length of the home straight. Given he’s likely to be an eachway proposition throughout in betting going to trust the eye and put him on top. RETURN OF THE MACH ran well first-up behind Savage Dancer from a long way back and now second-up she has a set of blinkers added, draws barrier 1 and can settle numerous pairs closer in the run. She’s a justifiable favourite. CLASSIC POETRY got run off her legs in her WA debut. ROCK THE MARKET was a nice quiet trial. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 8 – 13 Suggested Bet – YOU CAN CALL ME AL WIN RACE 3 SUPERFLUOUS won first-up at 1400m last preparation and then was immediately tested against the best of the 3 year olds at that time of year. He went to a Lex Piper, JC Roberts and Melvista Stakes and now resumes in a 3 year old 0MWLY 1400. His recent trial was: A) without blinkers; B) under a 4kg apprentice; and C) luckless. Difference on race day is shades on, senior on and a good genuine tempo to follow. Like the set up. MAGICAL SEQUENCE likely has to concede him a head start in running which makes it tough but she’s a nice filly. SAXON JEWEL and RANYX will keep battling hard on the speed. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – SUPERFLUOUS WIN RACE 4 ART SESSION was brilliantly placed last weekend by Team Pearce and the punters filled their boots – $4.20 into $1.90. He led, he travelled, he kicked hard into the corner and he never really looked like being beaten at any stage. 7 days later he’s found another winnable race against the older horses and should again be able to park up on the speed and show his class. DIAMOND DANCER looms into her races but can be a touch vulnerable late. Does she look to hold out the favourite or does she sit leader’s back and follow him? LIFEISBUTADREAM gets back but does have a nice sprint on her. THE TOP BAR maps to get all the favours. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – ART SESSION WIN RACE 5 ZOUCONI trialled super behind My Hidden Universe leading into her return, was completely unsuited second-up down the 1000m straight and then third-up was solid in a C3 behind Spectacular Park. Few minor gear changes (Norton on, Tongue Tie reinstated) and back into a C1. Should be right in the finish. APHRODITE MAGIC sprinted right away from her maiden rivals last start. Take away the one ‘below par’ performance two back and her entire body of work is encouraging. MILLY’S CLEVER TOO is a hard mare to follow with confidence. BARECOVE ROCK is better than what he produced last start. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – ZOUCONI WIN RACE 6 AMAZING CHEAT has really turned a corner since the blinkers were applied and given how well the mare and the stable are going, thinking that off the 7 day spin she can win what is a very open and even 0MWLY 1600. ROYAL GAP went forward last start and was lost. Difficult to be overly trusting with a horse who is 4 from 52 but if he reproduces the off-speed efforts behind Bohemian Diamond and Kelvinator he’ll be right there. GAGE ROADS isn’t easy to catch but it’s hard to ignore the strength of his fresh run. LONG GENES didn’t give a yelp last week. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – AMAZING CHEAT EACHWAY RACE 7 SWEET SURRENDER is a 3 year old filly who may well go 10 days into a Belmont Oaks off the back of this moderate 54+ against the older horses. She’s stepping up quickly in trip (1400 to 1800 to 2200) but she looks like she’ll stay all day and might have a bit more upside than a few of these. GRAND RESERVE looms as the obvious threat given he rolls to the top and stays out of trouble. He’s a real one paced stayer who needs to roll from a long way out. GRATIAS DEO was good behind First Encounter and Forever Boy in a 66+ last start. BAY STREET is always thereabouts. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet – SWEET SURRENDER WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,7 5,8 1,2,3,4,6,8,10,11 1,3,10,11 Market Market
