Scott Embry’s Wednesday Northam Preview Posted on October 10, 2023October 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BRAVE SPIRIT comes out of a 3 year old 1000 behind Generosity, Ripcord and All Play who will likely head to the Listed Max Simmonds Stakes at Ascot on opening day, whereas Brave Spirit heads to a Northam maiden with the same weight. Should prove too classy. IN GOOD ORDER looks the logical danger and while the barrier looks horrible on paper Northam has been playing fence off and he’s the kind of horse who will appreciate room to move. Great return to racing. PRIVATE SAPLING and SASSY SKYE can work forwards together and ensure a genuine tempo. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – BRAVE SPIRIT WIN RACE 2 MISS ROCKJOY was only gunned down late by Decoration last start and they ran the clock – 5L faster than maiden average. Considering she was the leader setting all those slick sections throughout thought she did a great job to fight under pressure and keep coming once headed. Open and even maiden where she can again roll forward into a position over the speed. Sue Olive’s team are up and about. ICEBERGS finished almost 5L off the winner on debut but the run had a lot of merit. Was chopped out half way up the straight and travelled nicely into it. HOLDOUT has run three strong races in his career to date. MAJOR MARIO has shades going on. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MISS ROCKJOY WIN RACE 3 ODIN OMEN and LINDEN’S GOLD are both last start maiden winners who rise 3kg to 60 into a 3 year old 0MWLY, however, when you dig a bit deeper they’re also the only two winners in an otherwise field of maidens. Thought the victory of ODIN OMEN when plunged in betting was arrogant and from barrier 1 he can stalk the speed and then look to gun them down again. LINDEN’S GOLD was a grinding type of win last start but now has a set of shades going on which will hopefully sharpen him up a bit. Hasn’t put a foot wrong all preparation. PULL THE TRIGGER found the line on debut. BIG PLAYER has shown glimpses. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – ODIN OMEN WIN RACE 4 G’DAY BLOKE looks your typical Dion Luciani jump and run horse. From barrier 4 with only 54.kg on his back expect Madi Derrick to put the foot down and try to run them off their legs. Tuned up with two sharp 400m jump outs and may well be on a catch me if you can mission. SALT LAKE SHAKE was a nice trial. Was run down after leading but the winner of that trial was super impressive and they skipped almost 4L clear of the rest. WEAPONS HOT did everything wrong on debut. Watch. BRAVE SHOT gets a gun run from the inside draw. Numbers: 10 – 11 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – G’DAY BLOKE WIN RACE 5 SHOULDER PATCH has put the writing on the wall at his last two. Parked three and four deep in the Malkar Pindari race two back and then was only gunned down late in the piece by Intervention last start. Knocking on the door and getting very close to breaking through. CANDLELIGHT SHERIF was huge in the same race when tramping three deep throughout and going down fighting. Shades went on and clearly had an effect. DARK LOOKS had excuses last start. All three runs back this preparation have been solid efforts. LOVA SESSION is starting to run out of chances. Back in distance and blinkers on first time. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – SHOULDER PATCH WIN RACE 6 TRULY RELIABLE hasn’t won a race for almost 500 days but importantly he gets back to Northam, the track where he has won both of his career races. Reasonable effort last start in the Toodyay Cup behind progressive staying mare Dun With The Blues and this race should have a genuine tempo through What Shout/Tell Nothin’/Hoist The Colours and Lord Randolph. These 54+ races can be a raffle. HOIST THE COLOURS was able to out stay them in a Westspeed Platinum Mile last start. No reason why he can’t win again. SHE’S OUR WITNESS let rip and destroyed them at Belmont last start in a small and weak field. TELL NOTHIN’ is getting better into the campaign. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – TRULY RELIABLE EACHWAY RACE 7 CRUISE TO VICTORY beat subsequent winner Dun With The Blues three back, finished a head off Ruling Dame in a Westspeed 1400 two back and then was solid behind progressive mare Malkar Pindari last start beating home rivals Hemlock Stone and Kelora. Can roll to the top and run another eachway race. CELEBRITY ICON was a great return to racing. Was first-up no trial over 1200m, over-raced and yet still hit the line hard. YONGA LASS has her first start for Grant & Alana Williams. Not knocked around in either trial and Pike goes on for race day. BIN SHALAA looks to map a treat in this high speed 1100m event. HESKET has his first start in WA. Interesting that Jarrad Noske has jumped off Cruise To Vicotry? Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – CRUISE TO VICTORY EACHWAY RACE 8 KESHI BOOM looks a really nice filly in the making. She’s undefeated at trials and one from one on race day. Not much went right for her on debut and yet she was still able to power over the top of them to score impressive when heavily commissioned in betting. Loved her 950m Lark Hill trial and expect she’ll be charging home down the centre late. If that’s the pattern of the day then watch the market react. COCKTAIL PARY is likely to be at the other end of the speed map. She can park up over the speed with Bayezid and Smokey Mountain and was highly impressive last start. LEADING TADDY comes out of a strong 3 year old Saturday race. UNDER INFLUENCE is capable of winning more races. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – KESHI BOOM WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 4,7,8,9,13 2,4,5,7,9,10 1,2,5,6,7 7,8 Market Market
