Scott Embry’s Wednesday Geraldton Preview Posted on January 24, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 IHTS CLOSING INN and DESERT PETARD give Adam Durrant a two-prong attack heading into the opening race at Geraldton. IHTS CLOSING INN was able to sit leader’s back following Let Them All Talk first-up at 1500m and got around his heels to issue a challenge half way down the straight in a three-way finish alongside Gold Friars and Denzoe. Should settle in the first couple in running and looks hard to hold out. DESERT PETARD trialled far better than his first-up run. He sat three back the fence and never really got warm. Trial leading into the preparation was encouraging. RUN TEDDY RUN finds a new home. Only two starts ago came through the Musqueam race that included subsequent winners Sanaa and Belle Journee. YOU CAN TELL ME was backed into $1.70 last start but got too far out of his ground. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – IHTS CLOSING INN WIN RACE 2 PASSION PRINCE won’t get a better chance than this to break through. Headed to Geraldton 10 days ago when contesting a 58+ and finished second behind Bush Icon. Steps to 1900m, drops back into a C2 and could even find himself in front early before likely taking a sit on Graciebird as she works around them. He’s drawn to get the run of the race, he’s very well placed and Brayden Gaerth’s 2kg claim is a luxury. Now or never for him. SLY AS A FOX and VANMAN both come through the Patchwork race and there wasn’t much between them. Think Vanman gives more of a stayers vibe. CAFÉ NERA is the proven stayer in the field but may still need another to bring her on. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – PASSION PRINCE WIN RACE 3 ARMED AND READY has to be one of the most frustrating horses in WA. First time in his life he’s put two runs together and here’s hoping that Peter Daly and Tash Faithfull have worked him out. Won a month between runs last start in the Walkaway Cup beating home Saturday Ascot winner Soviet Spy and this looks no tougher. DESIGNATED DRINKER has been a revelation in the region under the care of Barry Newnham. Backed off the boards first-up no trial at 1400m and never looked like being beaten, got over them in the latter stages second-up and then had to sustain a run at his first staying attempt of the preparation when nabbing Art Admirer right on the post. Hard to fault. PATCHWORK is coming up in grade but gets in again on the minimum. If she can find a spot in running, she’s another big player. PROXY should be just about ready. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – ARMED AND READY WIN RACE 4 MOCHA DREAM will be all the race in this. Finished only 1.8L off Invincible Ruby and Universal Flair on debut beating home Work In Progress with 59kg and then carried 57kg when finishing second to Universal Flair on another bog track. Trialled up nicely for his return and only carries 54.5kg after the claim for Brayden Gaerth. Hard to look past. EIN STEIN was only coming out of a 400m jump out on debut and met with late support at odds. Always wary of Ash Maley in Geraldton. LE WREN is first-up, no trial back from dirt racing. Previous grass form was alright. DARE ME was sharp in her recent 1000m trial at Belmont. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 8 – 11 Suggested Bet – MOCHA DREAM WIN RACE 5 THREE SESSIONS had four runs in his November/December 2021 preparation when winning a maiden, C1, C2 and 58+ in succession. Resumed off 99 days without a trial into a 70+ in April 2022 when going round a $3 favourite in a race containing the likes of Jag The Joker, Savage One, Run For Money, Dark Mission and Jupiter Rising. Went straight to the paddock after that one and only run and simply didn’t go a yard last campaign. If he’s back to anywhere near his best this is a lovely race for him. ADMIRAL HUSSON gets his chance to jump and run and likely looks to cross Verdigras early. STREET FAIR likely finds 1100m on the short side but should be a nice horse for this grade/region. VERDIGRAS is an unknown on the grass. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – THREE SESSIONS WIN RACE 6 HELL RAIDER is likely to go round eachway due to the barrier and you’d want the eachway insurance as a punter given the fact there’s simply no spot for him in the map. Third behind Ask An Angel (since beaten Eliminate) and second to handy metro midweek filly Jeanella is sensational form and with any sort of luck in running he’s right in the mix. CAN’T STOP NOW only had one run last preparation and sat three deep throughout at Belmont when only beaten 2.5L by My Boy Eddy. Another with a tricky draw but the right form. BERRY BERRY GOOD looks a different horse in front against the fence. YES MISS JANE has been freshened and gets a soft run along the inside. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – HELL RAIDER EACHWAY RACE 7 ELIMINATE stepped out to 1400m last start, raced keenly and wide in the first furlong and then whipped up and took up the running. Was only gunned down late by talented mare Dream To Me and now drops 5kg down to the minimum stepping into 70+ company. With main rival Edmond drawn barrier 9 of 9 she gets her chance to position up and make him chase her down. EDMOND went to town last start and measured up in 60+ Graduation company. The only query is the barrier but he has the best in the region aboard. STELLA FAIR is likely to roll across to either lead or breeze and has been building into the campaign. STARTTHEFRIAR looks just about ready and was chopped out last start. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – ELIMINATE WIN RACE 8 ALBERT was backed from $4.40 into $3.40 in the last 10 minutes of betting last start and everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Lisa Staples lost complete use of her off side iron from the 1000 and he ran his own race out in front before tiring late. The overall race time was 5.5L faster than average and he ran the first 1000 of the mile 12.5L faster than average. Back to 1400m he’ll be popular with punters again. ALLABOUTTHECRAIC looks the danger. Huge effort last start in a 58+ when parked wide throughout and kept coming. That form could look even better if Passion Prince gets the job done in Race 2. JUSTA LIL FAITH has been solid at every start for the new trainer and ownership. KELLY’S LASSIE is almost out of chances. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – ALBERT WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,3,5 FD 1,2,3,6,9 1,2 Market Market
