Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 23, 2022August 23, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 POSITIVE IMPACT was scratched on Saturday 13 August with a minor issue and then was scratched again on Saturday 20 August for a future nomination (this race). He has far more natural ability, upside and promise than his rivals here and while the two scratchings are minor red flags, as well as the staying trip behind a relative unknown, going to follow up with him again. Looks like a Saturday horse in the making. DEVONIA wasn’t too bad at her Brian Kersley debut and can roll to the top here. LUKE’S PIERRO is drawn really awkwardly but can sustain a run. SPECIAL PICUTRE does her best on the wet tracks. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – POSITIVE IMPACT WIN RACE 2 PROTÉGÉ had three trials as a 2 year old for Darren McAuliffe and has now had two trials as a 3 year old for Mitchell Pateman. The two recent trials have been excellent and he looks like an above average type. Think he’ll be ridden with aggression out of the gates to take up a forward position and with only 53.5kg should take beating on debut. SHOOTING KONTIKI drops down to 55.5kg and his two runs back in 2 and 3 year old company have been sound. This is an easier race for him. SEND ‘EM is racing well and maps a treat. VITALIZE will likely have to concede them a big head start. Numbers: 12 – 11 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – PROTÉGÉ WIN RACE 3 ROMMEL’S JEUNEY is backing up again and having his third start in three weeks, however, this looks the easiest that he will find the top and he could be a sharp improver on a drying track. Think that Brad Parnham will cross them with relative ease and from there he can control the tempo of the race and give a big kick at the top of the corner. Takes running down at an eachway quote. SHE’S OUR WITNESS has come back bigger and better this time in. She is savaging the line and she’ll fly at them late. HIS EMINENCE finished second to Benji’s last start and that should hold up as a C1 form reference. FORLANE has shades on and comes through the same race at Northam. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – ROMMEL’S JEUNEY EACHWAY RACE 4 RUPERT’S EMPIRE looks a raw but talented type. Didn’t trial in blinkers and wears them on race day in typical S.A Miller fashion and while he’s drawn a wide gate there looks to be a stack of speed in this (Just Go, Red Hot Goods, Major Max, The Fav, The Great Hoya) and that should allow those horses drawn awkwardly to get positions in running. Think he can run a race on debut. THE GREAT HOYA should be able to tuck in behind that top end speed. He has to lump 60kg but continues to race well. MAJOR MAX has looked talented at trials and if he can get into a prominent position from a tricky gate is a live hope. LACED UP HEELS looked sharp in her only public appearance. Good form race. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet – RUPERT’S EMPIRE EACHWAY RACE 5 FIORUCCI MAMA and SHE’S GREYSFUL both come through some of the strongest 2 year old form races of the Summer Carnival. They’re both well placed into this C1 against the older horses but unfortunately both also come through a trial where the vision makes it impossible to tell with great certainty how they’re tracking. FIORUCCI MAMA is double nominated for Wednesday and Thursday and with the 3kg claim of Taj Dyson gets in with a winnable weight first-up. SHE’S GREYSFUL has a turn of foot and if they burn early she’ll be coming hard late. QUEENSHIP bombed the start first-up but attacked the line strongly. WINNING ACES a big improver back on top of the ground. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – FIORUCCI MAMA EACHWAY RACE 6 SKIPPING DIGITS looked to trial up nicely leading into his return to the races. He struck a Soft7 track for the first time in his life, he was at 1000m for the first time in his life and he simply got run off his legs. Second-up, senior rider on, back in grade, up in distance and expecting a much better showing. Can bounce back. SIMPLE LOGIC has been given a little freshen after backing up on multiple occasions. Always hard to run down from on top of the speed. DOMINEER comes through a quality, winner producing C1. DEFENDING looks a big chance of being posted 3 deep? Numbers: 4 – 3 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – SKIPPING DIGITS WIN RACE 7 KEEPER SWEET comes through the Alsephina/Fiorucci Mama/She’s Greysful trial where you can’t tell who is who and how they’re travelling but this mare went to a new level when last in work. She’ll get back and wind up into the race at an eachway quote. Nice race for her. INFLATION and NO CHANGE were huge last start in a 66+ on what was officially a Heavy8 but more realistically was a genuine Heavy10. Both chased hard and were only gunned down late. SHE’S A SWEET DEEL put the writing on the wall last start with an eye-catching fifth behind Arcadia Grace, Keep Attacking and Enticing. Looks ready to run a big race third-up into the campaign. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – KEEPER SWEET EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,5,6,11 1,6,7,8 3,4,10 1,3,4,6,8 Market Market
