Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 9, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 UNION JACK finished third behind Paddy’s Lad and Diamond Command at 1400m three starts back, finished ahead of Hear My Prayer in the Aztec Ruler race two starts ago and last start was just able to out grind Sunplay on a Heavy8 in a maiden at Pinjarra. Probably rolls to the top here and turns it into a sit and sprint to suit himself. HEAR MY PRAYER dropped back to an all age maiden last start and was strongly supported in betting. Proved too strong and was then scratched from Saturday to save for this. ROMANTIC RULER has looked to have ability at trials and 1400m should suit. MOJO’S LUCK had every chance last start and was only fair. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – UNION JACK EACHWAY RACE 2 CANDLELIGHT SUPPER is certainly racing like the 1700m will suit her. Should the emergencies not gain starts she’ll jump from barrier 3 and hopefully can hold a position midfield with cover. The cutaway has been hot recently and when they fan for home she should get her chance to sprint through and record her first victory. Has been building and building. ON GUARD M’LADY was huge at 100-1 on debut and then showed it was no fluke with a solid effort last start. PICK AND PAY should box seat and gets the cutaway option. SUPPORTIVE is drawn awkwardly but again would come into barrier 7 if the emergencies aren’t required. Going well. Numbers: 7 – 9 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – CANDLELIGHT SUPPER WIN RACE 3 KNOT SECRET and NOBLE BORN come from a 3 year old 62+ behind Catalpa and with Catalpa finished off well in a 60+ Graduation on the weekend we’ll side up with that as the best form reference. KNOT SECRET rises to 60.5kg but from the barrier Shaun McGruddy should have him poised and ready to strike right over the top of the speed. Could well end up in the box seat following Noble Born into the race and that’s a nice position in running. NOBLE BORN should be able to kick through and lead. Wasn’t much between them last start and he is still improving. HE’SGOTWINGS will have admirers after a dominant maiden win on a Heavy8. SERVICEMAN next best. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – KNOT SECRET WIN RACE 4 BRIGHID and BIRD’S THE WORD were both great runs last start in their respective races when both tramping wide throughout and still finishing off well. Siding up narrowly with BRIGHID who took a big step from a maiden win into a C3 and measured up when finishing behind Famous Jurney and Cywer. Can sustain a run and has returned to racing in great order. BIRD’S THE WORD gets a 2.5kg weight allowance as a 3 year old taking on the older horses. Really well placed and drawn to get the run of the race. Proven in the wet and looks the danger. NOBEL KNIGHT should roll across to breeze outside Rogues Point and is racing well. CIVVY STREET finally draws a gate. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – BRIGHID WIN RACE 5 QUEENSHIP only had three runs when last in work and all of them were down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra Park. Her recent trial was particularly quiet yet really impressive late when hitting the line strongly under a hold. Lots of speed in this (Paeroa Lad, Star Soprano, Foxy Son) and so expecting CJP to park behind them and let her have last crack. PAEROA LAD is knocking on the door and getting really close to another victory. STAR SOPRANO has a senior on but will have to really burn across. WINNING ACES is suited by the strong speed. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – QUEENSHIP WIN RACE 6 FIND YOUR MAN is having his first attempt at a staying trip which is usually a cause for concern, however, there are a few things in his favour here: 1) cutaway racing; 2) trained by Lindsey Smith; and 3) there’s no speed in this so it’s likely to be a sit and sprint. Proven wet tracker and has arguably the best turn of foot in this race. Think he’ll measure up. SPECIAL PICTURE gets out to a staying trip, draws barrier 1 and has the cutaway on offer should he need it. AMERICAN QUEEN sat back and was right place right time last start in a race where the first mile was run 22L faster than average. SUNSPHERE is racing with great consistency. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – FIND YOUR MAN WIN RACE 7 GUNNAGO is ready to win again. The last two times he has lined up in this grade he has finished second (beaten half a head in August 2021 and beaten half a head in July 2022). Older horse who is really well suited to these 0MWLY races and with Westriver Miracle winning a 72+ on Saturday it makes him look hard to beat. Barrier the obvious concern. SESSIONS PEAK gave moderate opposition a belting last start. Racing well but this is a deeper race. GHOBELLA continues to travel well into her races but is not quite finishing them off just yet. CANNY JACK finished less than 2L off Catalpa, Knot Secret and Noble Born. Could look like good form after Race 3. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – GUNNAGO EACHWAY RACE 8 IRRITABLE RODNEE is a Heavy track specialist and the recent trial over 950m splitting Final Authority and Kick A Goal Son was sharp. Carries only 54.5kg after the Cassey Martinan claim and could well roll to the top or sit outside Rommel’s Jeuney. Goes well fresh and should run a race at an eachway quote. ROMMEL’S JEUNEY had to burn across from barrier 15 of 15 last start and set a genuine tempo throughout. If Sessions Peak measures up in a 0MWLY in Race 7 then the form will look even better. STARRING KNIGHT maps to get a lovely run midfield with cover. GREEN AND SHADY is hard to catch but racing well. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – IRRITABLE RODNEE EACHWAY RACE 9 AGENT JAY is really well placed by SJ Miller. His last 9 starts have been in higher grade than this and the last time he was in this grade was on 17 July 2021 on a Heavy8 when leading and winning with 58.5kg under Holly Watson. Looks like a very similar set up here and thought he battled on well enough last start after being attacked a long way out. HONEY DEW should get a lovely run into the race after doing it tough last start at Pinjarra. MAGNIFORCE is classy but a big query in the wet. MUSSA was a nice trial for the new yard. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – AGENT JAY WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3,4,5,6 2,3,4,5,6 2,4,5,6,7,8 2,7 Market Market
