Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on September 21, 2021September 21, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CHAMPAGNE DAME raced over 1000m on debut and was no match for the sharp Bitofmerit when he put a length on her quickly at the top of the straight. Fought on bravely to finish third behind both Bitofmerit and Buzzoom. Considering the way she kept coming and kept fighting it looks as though the 1400m will be right up her alley. Should kick through to the top for Azzopardi and take running down. PALE RIDER is likely to have her back throughout and if the cutaway is as hot as it was 7 days ago then he is a massive danger. Both impressed in the Bitofmerit run and Pale Rider was luckless last week. LINDRAM WALTER returns to maiden company and met with late support last Wednesday. ENGLISH BAY makes her debut off an encouraging trial behind The Escort (4 time winner). Numbers: 7 – 3 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – CHAMPAGNE DAME WIN RACE 2 MY FURY gives Darren McAuliffe a great opportunity to open the program with a race to race double. Big effort first-up over 1000m when finishing third to talented filly The Front Bar, got caught a little flat footed second-up but came again late when finishing second to Elite Fighter and then went around an even money chance in a 3yo 0MWLY 1300m when caught wide throughout and finishing third behind Outspoken Lad and subsequent winner Black Fantasy. Drops 4.5kg in weight, drops in grade into a maiden and most importantly finally hits a Good4 surface. Looks the winner on paper. STAR IN TIME hit the line nicely first-up and has the cutaway lane. BE MY GUIDE looks green and raw but looks to have something. AZTEC GOLD hasn’t been to the races in a long while but has shown glimpses at trials. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – MY FURY WIN RACE 3 ZADAR ROCK trialled like a galloper with ability. Showed gate speed, travelled boldly, railed perfectly and gave a kick on balancing. On debut struck a soft7 track and simply didn’t look comfortable at any stage. Immediately under pressure from the opening of the gates when looking to spin the wheels and then was all at sea throughout. Onto a Good4, drawn to kick through and lead. Could be a different horse. JUSTAMIDDY has put the writing on the wall in two runs. On debut was wayward and ran around when finishing off strongly in a hot form race (Red Fifty Three, Miner Addiction, Rulelee) and then last Wednesday went down fighting at the hands of Miner Addiction in a narrow photo. Awkwardly drawn but with a half decent run should prove the testing material. KANDAKA gets the right run behind them. JAMAICA JEUNEY looked to have a bit to offer at trials when held tight. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 6 – 10 Suggested Bet – ZADAR ROCK WIN RACE 4 RAIN GOD has an awkward alley to overcome but looks a horse with scope for improvement. Went into the first-up run well thought of in betting and losing no admirers when hitting the line well and finishing second to Sumusu. Not entirely sure where CJP gets to in running, however, deep the trip over 1000m at Belmont is very forgiving. Looks the one with the most upside. THE REPUBLICAN went down fighting by the narrowest of margins in a C3 last start. Saturday Sun has subsequently finished in the money in a 60+. ROCK HARD OMARU ran well at all three outings for the new yard last campaign. Given a freshen and has enough talent to win at least a C1. JAY DEE is better known over further but looks to get a gun run. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – RAIN GOD WIN RACE 5 TESTING LOVE was a super trial for the new stable. Adam Durrant unveiled Reliable Star as a winner on Saturday and Testing Love can easily continue the trend. Looks a good race for her on return. Forgiving and forgetting her much talked about effort in the Ascot 1000 Guineas she had four starts for four top two finishes. Looks like winning far better races than a midweek C3. STANDOUT ROSE was noted by Bruce Watkins in a pre-race interview to be slightly underdone going into her first-up assignment. She’s a classy filly and raced without any luck that day when held up for clear running the majority of the home straight. TYPE WON may be suspect late at the 1200m but has hit form. MANTELLI brings intrigue at his first start in the West. Always a market watch. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – TESTING LOVE WIN RACE 6 KING CRUZER ran well in a C3 fresh. Is clearly a work in progress and a horse who is going to continually get better with racing and experience. Slow burn type who looks to be on the improve and from the gate should settle close handy to the speed and could even lead in a race without a who lot of exposed tempo. Goes around an eachway price and should run an eachway race. FLICKA’S CHANCE trialled the house down leading into the first-up run when enjoying the run of the race and extending nicely late in the event. Longer the race went the more impressive he was. HOOVER showed versatility last start when rolling forward to do all the work behind a free rolling leader. Still has a lot to learn but trending in the right direction. ANTIQUE JEWEL was a wallet burner last campaign. Trial was fair. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – KING CRUIZER EACHWAY RACE 7 JADAVI has some X-Factor and a big turn of foot. We’ll know by race number 7 whether or not the cutaway is hot and if it is (like it has been over the last few months) then it brings a mare like Jadavi right into it at odds. 51kg, three back the fence, cutaway in action and a wide-open race without a standout. Worth a throw at the stumps. CELEBRITY WITNESS might divide opinions coming out of a lowly York 52+ handicap. Prior run when only collared late by Indominus was strong and the run before finished third to Karijini Aurora in a winner producing form race. ALIMENTARIA only tired late after working in the breeze fresh. The form stacks up through Smashing and Ginger Flyer and this is a race with a lot of horses outside the handicap. Profiles well for this. SALON DU CHEVAL arguably has the best race form to his name but the draw makes for a difficult steer. Numbers: 11 – 6 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – JADAVI EACHWAY RACE 8 BIG SCREEN is a talented front runner. Shaun O’Donnell rated him to perfection last start. Never gave anything else a chance to get comfortable and kept him in his rhythm. Capable of going through the grades (especially at Ascot) with that race pattern. No reason why he can’t work across again and take control of this. SCORPION STORMZ has shown sufficient tactical speed to take up a stalking position. Going super and carrying the weight well. CASTILLO DEL LAGO isn’t doing himself any favours out of the gates at the minute. Awkwardly away first-up and pulled himself around them three and four deep in one of the fastest first 1000s recorded at Northam for the season. Second-up again only fairly away. REAL PASSION is drawn to get right back and the way she raced when last in work the 1400m is likely to be on the shorter side for her. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – BIG SCREEN EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,7 2,3,4,8 1,2,3,4,6,11 1,2,3 Market Market
