Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 31, 2021August 31, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MY FURY went around odds on last start in a maiden and was an interesting run to try and dissect. Looked to be travelling well in an ideal position coming into the corner and then when pulling out and into the open was caught flat footed and unable to go with Elite Fighter who showed a far superior turn of acceleration. Looked to balance and come again in the last 100m. Will be a run which divides opinions, however, the first up run in a Saturday 3 year old Plate behind The Front Bar was a ripper. BLACK FANTASY and OUTSPOKEN LAD make their debuts for Team Pearce. Joey Azzopardi rode both to trial wins on the same day and sides with BLACK FANTASY. Didn’t look to be much between them and going to follow in Joey and put Black Fantasy marginally ahead of the stablemate Outspoken Lad. GINGER LOCKS caught the eye at her return to racing. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – MY FURY WIN RACE 2 NITRO FRED copped a lot of pressure in the early and middle stages on debut and did a great job to kick for home before being run down in the shadows by The Invisible Man. Steps to 1200, drawn to lead again and if he can get a mid race breather looks hard to run down. PEPPI GROVE had absolutely no luck on debut in the same race when settling last and finding a stack of traffic in the concluding stages. Keep safe at a price. RED FIFTY THREE won his trial in style when able to control and dictate. Drawn awkwardly the only concern. RULELEE has been getting back and hitting the line so far in her career. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – NITRO FRED WIN RACE 3 LOVE DRUNK BABY hasn’t been seen at the races since the debut performance in November 2020 when finishing third behind talented types Mercanto and Kimberley Boy. Recent trial was arrogant when parking deep throughout and cruising through the line. Definitely a query on the ability level of those he beat up on at trials, but it was visually impressive. Drawn well and should prove hard to beat at his return. ZADAR ROCK will be looking to jump and run as he has done at trials. Most recently railed up hard and skipped away from them in a sharp display. If they allow Brown to cross it’s game on. THE LADY IS A VAMP is double nominated for Wednesday and Thursday. Definite top 4 chance either day. ELUSIVE DREAM was only getting warm late in his trials and always winding up nicely. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 10 – 8 Suggested Bet – LOVE DRUNK BABY WIN RACE 4 GINGER FLYER should bounce straight on the lead here in a race without a great deal of tempo and pressure. From there Laqdar Ramoly holds all the aces and first-up last campaign when allowed to dictate terms was off and gone on the corner to win soft by over 2L. Recent trial was strong when splitting Saturday winner Sir Snugalot and 66+ type Shinju. Looks a great race for her on paper. SMASHING was shuffled back to an awkward spot behind tiring horses last start and did a super job to pick up the horses out deep who had the momentum. Form has already held up through Starlift and she’ll take beating again. ALIMENTARIA has form in far stronger races than this. Query is first-up, no trial from a small boutique yard. BLUE HORSE usually grows a leg off 7 days. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – GINGER FLYER WIN RACE 5 APPROACH looked back to somewhere near his best last start when savaging the line from a long way off them at Pinjarra Park. Probably goes very close with even luck in that event and the form should hold up over the next 24 hours through himself and Jarman. In a race where the young apprentices are likely to turn on the speed a long way from home Yuill just needs to have them within her sights for Approach to be a big player late. RUN D’AFFAIR RUN was brave last start when leading them up at huge early and mid stage tempos. First 1500m of the race was run 17L faster than average and he was still there fighting on at the furlong. ADMIRAL PROMO rates well for this and has run well fresh in the past. ELAFELLA is not an easy horse to ride and can be slowly away from the machine. Big opportunity for Taj Dyson but big risk from a betting perspective. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – APPROACH WIN RACE 6 GUNS OF NAVARONE is perfectly suited to racing in this grade with a claiming apprentice. Rarely seen outside of 78+, 72+, 66+ ratings races on Saturday programs and the last two times he has dropped back into this grade has produced a big win when well supported in betting and a completely luckless third where he arguably should have gone close to winning after copping a stack of interference. Provided Apple Schnapps goes round he’ll be eachway all day. APPLE SCHNAPPS has turned a corner and looks to map ideally tucked away behind the leaders. On the 4 day back up he’s the testing material. CITY CIRCLE is having her 20th run of the preparation and is at her 9th Swan Song as she eventually heads to the breeding barn. Shown no signs of training off. BELLE OF LIBERTY comes from a high rating 1000m straight race. Expecting market support. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – GUNS OF NAVARONE EACHWAY RACE 7 BLOCK OF LAND resumed in a C1 from barrier 10 of 11 when dragged back to last and finishing off reasonably well in a race which has proven a strong form reference (Justhandy and Starlift both subsequent winners), last start stepped into a C3 and finished off impressively late behind Karijini Aurora, Call Again and Celebrity Witness. Looks to be going well and this is an even and open C1. SIR RACHELOT takes luck out of the equation and rolls straight to the top. Should run an eachway race from there. DAD’S BIGHEADED had a number of excuses in replay last start. Knocking on the door for a while but again drawn awkwardly. SEE YA CHAMP is proving impossible to catch. Perennially black booked mare who always needs luck. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – BLOCK OF LAND EACHWAY RACE 8 DOUBLE DEMERITS burst onto the scene on debut with a barnstorming second to Bread To Flirt at Pinjarra when showing a big turn of acceleration. Start number two was able to break through from the perfect position in running when pushing through to win soft. Since then struck a Heavy track at Pinjarra behind Irritable Rodnee and subsequent winners Arracity and Shecky’s Mate when pulling up with excuses and again failing to handle the Heavy conditions behind Jedi Mind, Gunmetal Grey and All Day Session. Fingers crossed the rain can wait until after 5:20pm because if it’s a soft6 or better he’s a big chance at an eachway price. POPCORN TENDER was backed off the map in a similar assignment two starts ago. Hard to knock anything A.Maley at the minute. FROSTY BELLE wasn’t terrible first-up in a far tougher race than this. DOMINEER has been doing herself no favours out of the gates. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet – DOUBLE DEMERITS EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,4,6,9 1,2,6,7 1,2,3,5,7,8,9 2,7 Market Market
