Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on July 28, 2020July 29, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 DON’T SHOW ME UP trialed well and was well thought of on debut. Was caught back in the field in a sit and sprint where the first 800m was a complete walk and the last 600 they were sprinting home. Not a bad effort on debut and now the blinkers go straight on. Not a deep maiden and gets his chance. PROCEEDS OF CRIME was a better run than it looks on paper first-up. BREKKY WITH A BANG went close against the older horses two starts ago and this is probably an easier assignment than a 2 year old 1400. WHAT PLANET YOU ON has found one better at her last three. Drawn to get the run of the race again. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – DON’T SHOW ME UP WIN Race 2 EMPIRE REIGN was an impressive trial winner at Belmont Park and then ran a nice race on debut when far from disgraced behind talented Webster youngster Billy Ain’t Silly. Should be improved for the outing and drawn to enjoy all the favours. Should be going close. OLDEN has had absolutely no luck and the last two efforts have been equally as impressive. Finally draws a gate and is knocking on the door. AGENT KENSINGTON has caught the eye in both runs back. Ready to break through, backs up off 7 days and Pike jumps on. AL QUEPONE an improver. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – EMPIRE REIGN WIN Race 3 REGAL POYSE was bitterly disappointing first-up and clearly there had to be some sort of excuse. Second up was far better when third behind exciting stablemate Elite Street and Weaponson who has since made the form look good with a second placing to Excellent Dream. Drawn a sticky alley but Chris Parnham riding well and in an even race looks a legitimate eachway proposition. COMFORT ME was heavily commissioned first-up and raced very greenly. Blinkers go on and he likely looks to lead them up. HOT TECHNIQUE was stiff last start after copping a ton of interreference at various stages. ADVOCATOR trialed nicely for her return. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – REGAL POYSE EACHWAY Race 4 WINE NIGHT loomed the winner last start and then seemed to hit a brick wall. Was her first ever start on a rain affected track and willing to gamble on the fact that she simply didn’t handle the track conditions. Drawn to sit close handy, back in grade, back in trip and should give backers a great sight. ELITE STREET is classy and looks like going through to Saturday grade. From the draw Chris Parnham will have him in the box seat ready to pounce. PULI has come back a new horse. Always showed glimpses at trials but now really putting it together on race day. STELLA DOOR is talented but the bars are always a big red flag. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – WINE NIGHT EACHWAY Race 5 ROADRAGER returns to the races first-up, no trial but his fresh run in February when a luckless third to City Circle and Star Glitter gives confidence that he can turn up here. Likely to enjoy a favourable run midfield with cover and this looks a winnable race for his return. FLOWER OF SCOTLAND is a great ride for Hannah Fitzgerald and excellent placement by Paige Kenney. Can never be discounted. TRAKIATO was horrendous last start but all of his previous efforts were good enough to win. GRAND DESIGN was super fresh. She is a versatile mare who can race on and off speed. Interesting to see how she is ridden from the draw. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – ROADRAGER EACHWAY Race 6 PLETTO could not have done any more first-up. Joey Azzopardi rolled the dice from a wide gate and got planted three and four deep the trip, mis-strode at the 150m and still managed to hold on to fill a placing. Put a Spell on You came from that form race to win on Saturday and with Pike going on there will be plenty of eyes on her. THE NICCONIAN normally puts in a run fresh and if he can get across from the draw into the firing line then he’s a definite blowout chance. ONE SHORT is suited to racing in this grade and from the draw looks a big top 3 hope. AMELIE ARGOT went well first-up and is a consistent mare. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – PLETTO WIN Race 7 QUEEN TAKES KING was a winner in this grade two starts ago and then stepped into the Listed Belmont Classic. Was set alight mid race by Chris Parnham and was beaten on the corner. Fought back to grab a distant fourth but the three horses in front of her: Chantrea, Heaven’s Gift and Marrochino are quality animals. Drawn to get the run of the race and looks hard to beat. SOWAR steps to a staying trip for the first time in his life but hard to fault any of his recent form. Last start finished third to Puckapunyal and subsequent Saturday winner Truly Great. BONNEVILLE BLACK trialed very well and had little luck fresh. ALTAMONT is nearly impossible to catch but this is his kind of race. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet – QUEEN TAKES KING WIN Race 8 EXPRESSIONIST beat all bar False Statement last start and this is a very similar sort of line up. Looks suited stepping to 1400m, draws a gate to hold a midfield position and in the last metro meeting of the season William Pike is every chance of extending his own new winners record. ANNHILATOR is awkwardly 7 weeks between runs but his 3 year old form is super for a race like this. STEVIE’S WONDER has been trialing like a horse who would be winning early in the preparation. SIRIUS MAGIC could find the front and if he does he can be hard to run down. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – EXPRESSIONIST WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,4,5,6 1,4,8,12 1,3 5,6,8,9 Market Market
