Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on July 29, 2025July 29, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 THE CRIMSON PIRATE ran well on debut behind Zourun Run and takes on the older horses like recent winners Bundaberg and Sherpa Express. As of Friday he’ll be a 3 year old and he looks ready to step out to 1400m. Wider draw could be a blessing given the volume of rain that Perth has copped last 48 hours? COME ON EMMA trialled without blinkers and had no luck in her trial – forgive, struck a Soft7 and looked completely at sea first-up – that’s a huge concern. TALKAWAY was able to roll forward last Thursday at Northam and put the race away impressively. CLASSIC IMPACT again has no weight and does no work. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – THE CRIMSON PIRATE EACHWAY RACE 2 COUNTRY GOD has always trialled like a nice horse and it was encouraging to see him take that trial form to the races first-up and let rip down the centre to gun down Call Me Frosty who stole a break on them in the home straight. This 2 year old 0MW is tougher but he carries the exact same weight. Makes him hard to hold out. RIVA AQUARAMA was a really quite trial behind Ourgirlcanrun and then met with really strong (and astute) backing late in betting on debut. Showed a great turn of foot to gobble them up. BRAZEN BUTCHER trialled super and leads with a 3kg claim. ARTISTRY IN MOTION has shown above average ability in multiple trials. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – COUNTRY GOD WIN RACE 3 IMPRESSIVE JEWEL comes into this out of the Belmont Oaks where she was very good behind Fancy Red, Kimberley Rose and Lilian. She’s back to a maiden, she’s back in distance and she can sustain a run. Lots to like about this set up for her. SECRET INTENT wins last Wednesday with a bit more luck on straightening (or with another stride). She’s on the back-up, drawn better and the punters who launched her in early markets last week were not far off. CANTILEVER went around $2.60 at his second-up run when he pulled up with cardiac arrhythmia and was sent back to trials. His effort last week was fair. IRAYCHOUX looks like he needs 2000+. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – IMPRESSIVE JEWEL WIN RACE 4 NICELY PLAYED is a high speed 1000m filly. In the short time that the chute has been realigned at Belmont the majority (over 70%) have settled first 4 in running. She will be fitter second-up and drops 2kg. Straight to the top and look to hold them off late. IMPRESS OF INDIA has had a great campaign, having won a C3 first-up at 1000m and then won a Westspeed Platinum 1000 last start down the straight at Pinjarra Park. She gets back but she’s flying. GOLD VANCOUVER raced outside the handicap last start and still managed to finish within 3L of Desert Whisper (since second in a 72+ and subsequent winner Want A Winner). DESERT DANCING will need to zap them from last. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – NICELY PLAYED WIN RACE 5 TROPICCONI trialled really well leading into her WA debut behind fresh winner King Adviso. Always a big unknown/risk with these former Eastern States gallopers but her trial (in ear muffs – which she wears on race day) was really strong, she’s drawn to get a gun run and is a previous Heavy winner. CROSS STATEMENT is a month between runs, back slightly in grade and runs for the apprentices, however, will need some luck with plenty of speed drawn inside of him. Big chance of being three deep? HEZANGELIC won last start in a 58+ at Kalgoorlie and has been on sold to new owners/trainer since. CLEANEMUP only just runs out 1200. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – TROPICCONI EACHWAY RACE 6 DOCTOR JAY hasn’t raced for over a year but has had a few trials to get him fit enough and his 60+ Graduation form around Californication and Berbere is easily good enough to win this. By Race 6 we’ll have a good sighter into whether the fence and barrier 1 is of any assistance to him. Wait and see type punt. KIRALUI held her own first-up behind On Patrol beaten just on 1L in the finish. Should run her usual honest race. BLEEKER STREET nearly won three or four races last prep. VILLAGE GIRL seemed to love the Fibre Sand, kept coming under pressure late. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – DOCTOR JAY WIN RACE 7 FLINDERS LANE is only the winner of an Esperance maiden and gets back in running – so there’s a few negatives, but her last run in a 0MWLY behind Linden’s Gold at 100-1 on a bog track was really good. Hayden Ballantyne has his team going well and she doesn’t need to be a world beater to be pinching a C1 like this. CHOUX SHOE is another who sneaks back in grade after two competitive performances in C3 company. Senior on too will attract support. TACTICS seems to be the kind of horse whose best and worse is going to be 10L apart. JELLYBEAN JONES was a big improver last start and beat home Tactics by 2L. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – FLINDERS LANE EACHWAY RACE 8 DASHING ERIKA is a lightly raced mare with a bit of ability. 1100m was always going to be too short for her first-up and second-up over 1400m she only faded late when second to Just Famous. Fitter again third-up and is versatile. Like the way she goes about it. WORCESTER was really well backed at his WA debut and nearly landed the money. Must respect and follow. HIGHLAND FLAIR is starting to put it all together and is appreciating ZJP riding him for speed. He’s tough late. DECISION MAKER is on the 6 day back-up and has certainly turned a corner since Brad Parnham has jumped aboard. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – DASHING ERIKA EACHWAY RACE 9 DIAMOND DANCER has burnt punters on a few occasions but she looks like she goes better with a smother and from barrier 1 this is the perfect opportunity to sit leader’s back and hold her up. Not convinced she’s as good as the market seems to think but this does look a nice map for her. SHAULA loomed large at his WA debut at 40-1. Jason Brown should be able to give him a near identical run from the barrier. RAPID ROCK is now 66+ back to 60+ back to C3 back to C1. He’ll be winning one soon at this level. PETER GUNN is still a maiden, but won’t be for long. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – DIAMOND DANCER WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,5,10 1,2,3,8 3,4 1,3,5,8 Market Market
