Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on November 19, 2024November 19, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BLACK ORA made an impression at trials when shooting home into second behind Galactic Empire (won both trials this preparation for Pike/Williams) and then was a dominant debut winner over Lucky I Am at Northam. Rises 3kg, strikes a noticeably tougher line-up and is drawn a bit awkwardly. We learn a lot about her Wednesday. CATCH CARTER couldn’t get a run in the Placid Ark on the weekend, however, matched motors with Wind And The Lion in the last 100 in the Prelude. Big danger if he gets a half decent run. STAR HOSTESS is speedy and can take full advantage of her inside draw. AT YOUR SERVICE an obvious improver. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 10 – 7 Suggested Bet – BLACK ORA WIN RACE 2 NORTHERN DIAMOND still has a lot to learn. She’s very new and very raw and did everything wrong on debut. Still a good effort all things considered and this race lacks any genuine speed so expecting that Shaun O’Donnell will take his time and look to work his way forward in the first 400m. If she gets across, she’s the one to beat. FINAL TRADE and I’M CRAFTY both trialled well for their returns to the race track and are drawn well. GREAT EDITION is going along alright for a horse who will be 20-1+. Numbers: 14 – 2 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – NORTHERN DIAMOND WIN RACE 3 LINE OF THOUGHT got into all sorts of trouble at her return to racing and never got a crack at them at any stage in the home straight. Going to follow up because her 2 year old form around the likes of Another Lovve, Gi Gi Pops and Venus King more than measures up. HOPE TO RULE ran third behind Magna’s Choice and God’s Gate first-up and drops 1.5kg. SPANGLED STAR was just starting to hit top gear late last start and will appreciate the extra 100m to wind up. FRAPPUCCINO has stacks of ability but it seems to be matched by the number of issues he has. Scratched 5 times this preparation and can mix his form. Numbers: 13 – 16 – 15 – 2 Suggested Bet – LINE OF THOUGHT EACHWAY RACE 4 NONESOSPICY lead and won on Melbourne Cup Day at Ascot in a 3 year old 0MWLY and now drops in grade into a C1 and carries half a kilo less. Expect she’ll burn across to park just off the speedy Shasfa and from there she should be able to run her down and hold the rest at bay. SHASFA is very quick and off the 7 days can take full advantage of the on speed / inside barrier advantage that the Belmont 1000 is exhibiting. SHOW THE WAY continues to hit the line hard. JUST SAINT JAMES will get back and wind up late. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – NONESOSPICY WIN RACE 5 SIX SHOOTER broke his maiden like a horse who could work his way through the lower grades and then punters unsuccessfully launched him at Bunbury on Melbourne Cup Day. He’ll sit over the speed and should keep improving with racing. CLOSE TALKER is flying. She could have won two or three races this campaign with even luck and bolted in last week. Luke Campbell gave her the perfect ride last week from barrier 8/8 and will need to be at his best again drawn 11/12 with a bit of speed underneath him. RIGHT TO SILENCE has returned in great order. THE KING’S UNCLE ran well last Wednesday. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – SIX SHOOTER WIN RACE 6 IDYLLIC RULER was the beneficiary of a textbook Jason Brown ride last start: first 1000m = 9L slower than average, last 600m = 3L faster. He was allowed to dictate terms to them and nothing was ever going to run him down. Doesn’t need to lead to win and that’s important because a 3kg claimer and a set of shades on Five Down could mean jump and run. AUDIO BOY gets Pike and can sustain a run. RALLY THE TROOPS is accepted for the Guineas Saturday. DELTA ANNE is going at least 5L better than any other preparation. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet – IDYLLIC RULER EACHWAY RACE 7 WICKED VENOM has found another really nice race. Went to 1200m for the first time this campaign in a Westspeed Platinum and didn’t get much luck in the home straight when held tight and not fully tested. This race has speed on speed with Estimator, Indie Ruler, Outfield, Cross Statement, Play Dice and Nobellity all likely to battle for the early lead. Has the firepower to run them down. PLAY DICE is capable of taking a sit and showing a turn of foot. That’s Pike101. ESTIMATOR goes super fresh and is drawn a beautiful alley. BISECTOR was a handy run for her new trainer fresh. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet – WICKED VENOM EACHWAY RACE 8 PROCESSIO is having her third start of the campaign and comes back into C1 company for the first time in the prep. Should be peaking third-up, is drawn to sit in Pike’s favourite spot – 3 back the fence, and with any luck in the home straight will be bursting through late. Like the set up for her. PETITE VITESSE had a set of blinkers added last start and as well, if not better, than Processio. DON’T TRUST JUDAS didn’t get a lot of luck last week but the jury is still very much out on whether he tries very hard. THE LUCKY CHIP is going better than numerical form suggests. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet – PROCESSIO WIN Market Market
