Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on January 23, 2024January 23, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FINAL AUTHORITY was huge at his return to racing when steaming home down the centre of the track. Second-up he was accepted to race on a Saturday at Ascot before the meeting was abandoned due to heat so now he attacks this 5 weeks between runs. He’s won previously off a 4 week gap and he can stalk the speed behind Bayezid. From there he’s dangerous. BAYEZID should be an ideal jump and run apprentice’s horse. Madi Derrick allows them to stride and that’s exactly how Bayezid likes to be ridden. He’ll be in front for a long way. PEARLY NUGGET has raced in higher grade at 11 of her 13 career outings. She’s untried at 1000m but she’s got the best overall form to her name. MAGNALEE might have to work a bit from the draw. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – FINAL AUTHORITY WIN RACE 2 GOLD CITATION should get a gun run tracking into the race behind high-speed pair Salt Lake Shake and Tycoon Harry. From there Shaun McGruddy can stalk into the home straight and then look to pounce over the concluding stages. Won impressively first-up last preparation beating Blue Lagoon and Tycoon Harry before running second to Placid Ark and Winterbottom Stakes placegetter Oscar’s Fortune. Horse that beat him at trials won first-up Saturday too. SALT LAKE SHAKE skipped around Lark Hill in a sizzling 55.90 and that looked like second gear. Fast horse. TYCOON HARRY was slowly away first-up but still managed to bully his way to the top and fought hard late once headed. SPECIAL STREET is double accepted Wednesday and Friday. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – GOLD CITATION WIN RACE 3 PROPHET AND POWER will go around a juicy quote as an impressive last start maiden winner (for the second time). He’s now won 2 from 10 if you remember his ‘original’ maiden win before being subsequently DQ’d and he’s in arguably better form this time around. Brayden Gaerth takes off 3kg and he can roll straight to the front and dictate terms to them. From there he’s hard to get past and he’s likely to be eachway throughout betting. BLAZING EMERALD drops out of a 3 year old Saturday behind King’s Parade and Rocket Juice. That’s excellent form for a C1 midweeker. MY JIMMY sat three deep the trip without cover to break his maiden and was running away from them on the post. TIGER LINE was a tradesman like win on debut. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – PROPHET AND POWER EACHWAY RACE 4 BIONDO rattled to the line last start in a winner producing race (Elite Fashions & King’s Call). This is a maiden with 7/8 legitimate winning chances and should be somewhere near ~$5 the field by the time they jump. He’s likely to be in double figures and if he can find the right back to follow he looks ready to run a race. TRIO trialled super at Lark Hill recently but in a capacity line-up is drawn right towards the outside. No luck at all on debut and has always trialled like a horse with plenty of natural talent. PAPAVERO PRINCESS has put the writing on the wall at her last two outings after she got knocked sideways first-up at Geraldton. She’s ready to win. RUBICK LASS worked to the line well late in her trial and drops into a maiden for the first time in her life. Scratched last week to save for this. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 12 – 14 Suggested Bet – BIONDO EACHWAY RACE 5 OUR ROCKY BAY crossed, lead and kicked clear for an emphatic maiden win most recently. We’ve already seen Prince of Santos $4.40 into $2.90 win out of that event and she stopped the clock a whopping 10L faster than maiden average. Her first-up run was on a Saturday and she was only 2.5L off Angel Undercover and Ginnivan who have franked the form since with Saturday placings. She’s progressive. SAULOK won well on debut and was immediately tipped out. Recent trial he went back and was a bit erratic late. Still a solid trial. Can lead or box seat. HAPPY AS LARRY was only just behind Blazing Emerald in the King’s Parade race last start so if she wins Race 3 it’ll look good. BE AWESOME trialled well for his return. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – OUR ROCKY BAY WIN RACE 6 BEATS OF WAR and PLAY WITH DESIRE ran the quinella in a near identical race a fortnight ago and see no reason why they won’t be the two fighting out the finish together again. BEATS OF WAR went into that assignment a month between runs after overcoming a minor set back so in theory he’ll only be fitter and better this time around. Finding the right back and winding up from the 600 he’ll be hard to hold out. PLAY WITH DESIRE can take up a spot close handy and with a 1kg weight swing and a field advantage looks the obvious danger. TELL NOTHIN’ can always bob up in races like this as he showed last start. FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER should benefit from his first outing over a staying trip. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 14 – 4 Suggested Bet – BEATS OF WAR WIN RACE 7 STARCHIENNE was first-up no trial over what looked a potentially unsuitable 1200m first-up but she was way too classy for reasonable opposition. Stays in the same grade, rises 1.5kg in weight and gets out to 1400m which looks like it’s about her sweet spot (for now). She looks like a Saturday mare in the making and looks in for a big preparation. Like the way she goes about it. PENNY ON THE QUEEN bombed the start in the Mandurah Cup but was a big run in replay. Senior rider back on and is a winner with 59.5kg under Shaun McGruddy previously. NERO KING backs up off 7 days from a high rating race behind Bonjoy. Take away his Ascot run(s) and his strike rate is excellent. DENNIS CHOUX gets Paul Harvey back and that’s worth lengths. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – STARCHIENNE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 4,5,8,10,12,14,15 4,6,8,9 2,3 2,3,5,8,13 Market Market
