Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on July 4, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BONJOY should get her chance to zip past them in a small field. Expecting that she’ll have to be at her very best with a horse like Berbere engaged but if he is at all suspect at the end of the 7 furlongs then this filly can charge. She’s got an exciting turn of acceleration. BERBERE steps out past 1000m for the first time in his life which is the big unknown against his name. Winner on debut down the straight, winner first-up over Too Dardy who then turned the tables on him second-up over 1000 on a Saturday. Up 400m and an apprentice on is the test. DIAMOND COMMAND was massive last week when covering plenty of additional ground. ALL BRAVE is two from two. Hard to knock. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – BONJOY WIN RACE 2 LIEUTENANT DUNBAR looks to get his chance in this. He went to the paddock after running four good races in his initial preparation including finishing second to Art of Sabrage, third to Costazita and second to Valsassina. Trialled really well leading into his return to racing and then drew on the ‘wrong’ side of the Pinjarra straight before stepping moderately. All things considered it was probably a good effort to only go down by 2L in the finish. Strides across and should put his stamp on this. ZULTANITE likely goes round a big price. Caught the eye late in her first-up assignment. TEABISCUIT is going well and is drawn soft. TRULY AWESOME comes back in distance and has been knocking on the door. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – LIEUTENANT DUNBAR WIN RACE 3 GUARDING HEAVEN drops 2kg as well as dropping from a Saturday into a Wednesday. Only beaten 1.2L by Hanchi and A Lot Of Good Men at her return to racing. That’s excellent form for a 2 year old maiden event and she’s drawn to get a lovely run. Great placement and use of the claim. JANNY responded impressively when asked for an effort at trials. There was nothing to write home about in terms of the overall time but it was more about the aesthetics of how she lengthened over the last 100m. Has the cutaway if crossed. BRAVE SPIRIT charged through the line in his most recent trial. He’s got definite X-Factor to him. TOP OF THE WALK is extremely quick. Should take great benefit from the first-up run. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – GUARDING HEAVEN WIN RACE 4 JUSTABITTAPRESS has got tongues wagging at trials. Won a 400m jump out by 4L and then backed it up over 950m winning by the same margin in blistering time (relative to the other trials same day). Drawn barrier 10 of 10 on debut makes things interesting but from what we’ve seen he’s well and truly above average. BRAVE SHOT and WRITTEN MELODY both hail from the Grant & Alana Williams yard. Since Princess Lacillia a couple of months ago they’ve been trialling some nice animals and this pair both look like they’ll measure up. PIN DEEP chased hard outside subsequent winner and undefeated colt Red Square last start. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet – JUSTABITTAPRESS WIN RACE 5 INVINCIBLE RUBY won on a Heavy8 on debut so regardless of how much rain is around across the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday period she’ll handle it no worries. Big effort first-up from a mile off them in a leader dominated event at Pinjarra and then arguably even better flashing late behind Imperialize (beating home Bonjoy) in a 3 year old 0MWLY. Has returned to racing undeniably well. CHARMING BELLE was better than what it reads on paper at her return. She couldn’t find the right back to follow and Pat Carbery had to dive back inside heels before the corner. She never got a flow into the race. Forgive. FOREVER CLASSIC went straight from a maiden into a Saturday. This is far more to her liking. DIVINE FLIRT trialled well on both occasions. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – INVINCIBLE RUBY WIN RACE 6 FLURO NEURO won impressively down the 1000m straight first-up in a maiden. Visually it was super impressive, to the clock it was sharp, but in reality he probably didn’t beat a whole lot. Went straight to a 60+ Graduation and was backed heavily throughout betting. Did everything wrong and yet was only beaten 3.5L. Drops back into a C3 and Pike sticks. This is a much more suitable race for him. GALACTIC STORM may find 1200m on the shorter side but he trialled nicely and he did win a 1200 first-up at Pinjarra two preparations ago off 144 days. ALASKALOT was scratched recently but on the plus side finds a 1200 rather than a 1000. THE COOLAKIN KING rolls to the top and controls. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – FLURO NEURO WIN RACE 7 VILLEINS was simply too good of a trial to ignore. Was in a 72+ trial and was taking ground off Money Matters when weaving out into clear room from behind heels (Chanel Cooper looks like a little gun?). Won a C3 first-up last preparation and from the draw William Pike can have him parked behind what looks a genuine tempo (Regal Access, Norich and Imperialize). Nice race for him. REGAL ACCESS was getting further and further away from them the longer the race went at Pinjarra. Great trial, super return and is a Heavy9 winner so the wet track is in his favour. IMPERIALIZE is well placed but has a tricky draw. CHINA SPIRIT hasn’t had much luck. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – VILLEINS WIN RACE 8 BLEECKER STREET has been enormous his last two. Never gave it away after covering ground behind Falcon Trader and Oceanzara and then was destined to do it tough from barrier 11 of 11 last Wednesday. Only finished half a length off Yarralea and Albright. He’s knocking the door down and should enjoy the run of the race. MADAME MAGIC is maybe not loving life on the rain affected tracks? She’s going well but she’s not showing that same brilliance as we saw on Melbourne Cup Day at Ascot when she zapped Forever Classic. 3 year old 0MWLY back into a C1 is brilliant placement. VITAL GEM swims. The wetter the better for him. SNAZZLER ran well last start. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – BLEECKER STREET WIN RACE 9 HEAVENLY LADY broke her maiden over 1400m at Belmont on a Soft6 two starts ago beating Scenery and subsequent winner Spirit Of Gerry. She then progressed to a C1 mile at Pinjarra where she was desperately unlucky, effectively held up the entire length of the home straight. Looks like a 3 year old filly who is still improving with racing. PREPARE FOR CHANGE was trapped three deep throughout last start and only gave it away late in the race. Prior runs were encouraging. WONDER WEAPON got the job done over a handy rival last start. COVERT ROSE has shades coming off. She’s just grinding at the minute to the eye. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – HEAVENLY LADY WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,4,5 1,2,3,4,6 4,5,7 1,3,5,6,7 Market Market
