Not an easy position to be in and will need some luck at stages in the home straight (interesting to note Stewards Comments on 22 December – ‘appeared reluctant to improve between runners’). Fresh run was a ripper and Manhattan Strip has since won out of that race. Weak race and gets his chance. JUAN WON ONE has the blinkers added. Wonder whether they will elect to roll to the top and try to dictate terms and sneak away on straightening. IVANA’S GIFT improved sharply first-up to second-up. BEAUTY QUEEN finished off hard late last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – WEST COAST WARRIOR WIN RACE 2 BARACAP was really unlucky last start. She looks a mare who needs room to move and time to wind up through her gears. The official beaten margin was 6.5L but that’s not a fair reflection of the quality of the run. Considering she finished 5.5L off Manitoba she’s likely to go around a genuine eachway price and in a pay 1-2-3 she looks an eachway bet. Think she’ll stay all day. OPTIMAL dropped out of the 3 year old staying features and ran second to Celebrity Icon (who now goes to the WATC Derby). Enjoys the run of the race and should go close again. MANITOBA was really eye-catching last start and should get a soft run. One of the main players. LA CARTIER improved out in trip last start. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – BARACAP EACHWAY RACE 3 BONNY ROCK has had two starts in her career, second on debut behind Odinaka (beating home sharp filly Auspicious) and then second behind Brave Strike when looking the winner with 50m to go. She’s 6 weeks between runs but she was nominated for the Group 3 Gimcrack last week. Smart move to avoid running into Live To Tell, Super Smink and Augment and instead hit a midweek maiden. INVESTMENTSTRATEGY looks like he will need time and experience but he ran well enough on debut to suggest he’s a danger to the stablemate at start number two. STOLEN VALOUR took charge on debut. The Wiley Girl race was 5L faster than average and he was responsible for that strong tempo. RUBICK LASS is finishing off her races hard. Draw hurts. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – BONNY ROCK WIN RACE 4 LIFE OF BRIAN has trialled like a horse who would be going close on debut regardless of where he went. Michael Lane’s yard is back to its lethal best (Makes The Cut, Frantic War, Rusty Dream, Lucky Landing all winning in the last fortnight) and there’s money for all of his horses. Showed versatility at trials, sat on speed, sat off speed and won on both occasions. Looks to have ability. UNDER INFLUENCE loomed large on straightening on debut and only blew out late. From the draw he gets the run of the race and he will only improve for the outing. CANNY ROCK was fierce and green on debut but still finished off well. PRIVATE SAPLING won’t be a maiden too much longer. Numbers: 9 – 6 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – LIFE OF BRIAN WIN RACE 5 SHE’S IMMINENT sat three and four deep the trip last start and kept coming to the post. Blinkers go on first time and from the draw she should be able to join the three deep moving line and if it can build into the straight for her it will bring her right into it. Looks very winnable for her. Just needs an ounce of luck to find the right horse to follow into the race. PANDORA GIRL made her debut in a 60+ Graduation at Ascot and actually met with some support at double figure odds. Much better suited in a maiden. EXPOROSE was only fair last start down the straight at Pinjarra. She can zip across to park on speed here. DUCHESS OF GOSSIP has shown enough at trials. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 6 – 13 Suggested Bet – SHE’S IMMINENT WIN RACE 6 ULTIMATE STYLE was brave last start. He sat three deep throughout on top of the speed and was still there with 100m to go. He drops in weight after the Luke Campbell claim and provided he can find the breeze then he looks hard to run down. Looks a real fighting type who will keep coming in a grind. FLOPPY improved sharply first-up to second-up. Travelled strongly into the race and let down with a strong finishing effort. MONEY FOR OLD ROPE finished third in the same race and can enjoy a similar run in a similar field. SILVER BUGG is knocking on the door. Draw makes things harder. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – ULTIMATE STYLE WIN RACE 7 SESSWA was disappointing first-up. She trialled really well at Belmont Park but in the run you could see a fair way out that she was in a bit of trouble. Thinking that the C3 containing My Fury and Senorita Dorotea was even stronger than what she meets here and the way she raced the 1300m will be more suitable than the 1200m. Willing to follow up and go again. NUNES got a long way out of her ground at her return to racing. Happy to follow the form through sharp Lane filly Rusty Dreams. LORD AUGUSTUS went close last start. He’s always capable in this grade. AMERICAN TROOP drops back into a mid-weeker. He can park out deep and wind up into this. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – SESSWA WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,6,7,9 7,10,13 1,4 1,4,7,8 Market Market
