Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on February 28, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PERFECT BUBBLES is a 5 year old mare only having her second career outing. Her two trials leading into her return have been outstanding and William Pike rides from a favourable alley. Likely to get eachway about her and she strikes what looks a winnable race. Going to roll the dice with her. HERE FOR CHEQUES is likely to either kick through to lead or sit and wait on the cutaway. Either way he’s a top 4 player. Great return to racing and has upside. NYET has blinkers added to his race gear and drops out of the Pinjarra Magic Millions when well supported at odds. Jury out on him. Learn a lot here about his future. ONLY EYES FOR HIM was just as good a run as him in the Magic Millions yet will go round over double the price. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – PERFECT BUBBLES EACHWAY RACE 2 CITY ANGEL was swamped late by Rising Commodity last start. This race has a stack of speed drawn inside of her (Marmooga, Smiling Girl) and outside of her (Rock This Town, Toppa The Mountain). She showed versatility with an off-speed win fresh and William Pike can ride her according to how she jumps. Like the way she’s returned and gets the nod in a wide open race. MARMOOGA was ridden for speed last start and put on a galloping exhibition. No surprise to see her go back to back. PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC is drawn barrier 1 with the cutaway and lays inwards in his races. Can be allowed to roll right back along the cutaway and makes his run late. RISING COMMODITY will end up in an almost identical position to last start. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – CITY ANGEL WIN RACE 3 VAST ART and COCOON BAY were both victorious in a deadheat last start. Both look progressive types and both look like they’ll get out over further in time. Goes without saying there isn’t much between them and in a race where they should get along at a genuine tempo behind Divine Inanna and Yes Of Course we’ll side up with VAST ART who should hold a tactical advantage in running from the more favourable draw. COCOON BAY will be charging to the line late and the rail out helps her cause. VILLAGE GIRL drops out of the Challenge Stakes which has been a winner producer. SHE’S A MACHINE won impressively on debut and can go well in another wide open and even event. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – VAST ART WIN RACE 4 TREVERN has trialled like a horse who would be winning first-up. He’s proven in this grade as a 2 time 0MWLY victor and after the claim for Luke Campbell he carries only 56.5kg. He’s drawn outside of fellow speed horses Avoidance and Excelestial but with an aggressive ride in the early stages he shouldn’t have any trouble finding the top. From there he controls and kicks into the corner. Nice race for him. MAJOR MAX also trialled like a horse who would be winning first-up and he didn’t let his followers down. Sticky draw here but if he finds a spot he’ll take real beating. EXCELESTIAL is going super for the new connections and ran a ripper at odds behind a talented 3 year old at Pinjarra last start. AVOIDANCE improves quickly into his preparation. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – TREVERN WIN RACE 5 ALASKALOT was a tough watch last start. He was heavily backed from $3.40 into $2.10 and got shuffled further and further back into the field and never got himself out into the moving line or into a winnable position. Complete forgive and forget run, we’ll go his way again and hope that he can find three deep with cover and show his best. AXEMAN’S JAZZ comes through the same race and he also didn’t get the run to suit. He’s a momentum building kind of horse with plenty ahead of him. Will need to be allowed room to move at some stage in the race. KIA ORA JEWEL is working into some form. If they’re swooping by this stage, she’ll be coming hard late. SPECIAL SORT put in a blinder fresh. Bars going on second-up a red flag. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – ALASKALOT WIN RACE 6 MAKTASTIC has put in two rippers since arriving in WA. Last week he sat in the breeze in a race where they ran the first 1200m 15L faster than average. They were out on their feet late and he was brave to keep coming. Positions up over the speed and gives another honest sight here. COVERT ROSE takes on the older horses and steps out to 2200m as she tries to announce herself as an X-Factor filly in the Natasha Stakes and/or WA Oaks. She’s lightly raced, she’s progressive and the horse she beat home last start got the job done at Pinjarra on Sunday to frank the form. KENTUCKY BLUE is going far better than numerical form suggests. He has had absolutely no luck his last two. Keep safe at odds. BANDALERA MISS is going well. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – MAKTASTIC EACHWAY RACE 7 HONEY DEW looks to have found a suitable race. There’s a gentle seabreeze forecast to arrive at Ascot by 5pm so hopefully by the last they’re able to swoop into it three and four deep into the corner. If so, Honey Dew is the kind of mare who can park rearwards and wind up into it. Dropped back into a more suitable C3 last start and worked her way home late through traffic to grab third behind Major Max. If he runs well in Race 4 it will look like good enough form to pinch this. MILITARY BEAT finished just in front of her last start in that same race. Has a senior rider going on which offsets the 2.5kg negative weight swing. GEORGE GENTLY ran well fresh but may be looking for further not shorter? PREDETERMINED has gear changes and has won from off-speed in Victoria. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – HONEY DEW EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,6 2,3,4,6,7 2,3,4,6,7,8,9 2,5,6,7 Market Market
