Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 6, 2022March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ART OF SABRAGE and TORONADO MAGIC both trialled like they would be winning on debut. Throw into the race LIEUTENANT DUNBAR, PADDY’S FLYIN’ and DIGITAL MISS and you’ve got a top class 1000m maiden which should be an excellent Wednesday afternoon spectacle and an even better form reference going forward. Siding up with the green and raw TORONADO MAGIC to extend the recent run of Sean & Jake Casey. Jumped as well as anything in her trials and has been taken hold of so expecting from the inside draw she’s right there on straightening. ART OF SABRAGE looks versatile and looks naturally gifted. LIEUTENANT DUNBAR looks as though he will improve with racing. PADDY’S FLYIN’ has been sharp at trials. Numbers: 12 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – TORONADO MAGIC WIN Same Race Multi – Toronado Magic (Top 3) + Art of Sabrage (Top 3) RACE 2 REAR ADMIRAL could not have been more impressive on debut. She had taken a sit at trials and displayed an excellent turn of foot but on debut she found herself in the breeze and when they straightened for home, she was off and gone. Has to rise 3.5kg and heads to Ascot for the first time in her life but she looks a Saturday filly racing on a Wednesday. TRIGGER FINGER was strong last week at 1200m. Overall race time 3.5L faster than maiden average suggesting he’ll be leading and winning one very soon. FASHION STAKES went close to breaking her maiden on two occasions before being thrown into the Placid Ark. FEDERATION ROCKS a watch at his WA debut. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – REAR ADMIRAL WIN RACE 3 BRAVE VENTURE looks very well placed at his return to racing. Ran well on debut at Northam behind talented galloper Keep Attacking and then went to a 3 year old 0MWLY when beating Cold Shizzle and Extra Secret to break his maiden. Nothing went right for him at his third start and he was then tipped out for a spell. Trialled well leading into his return, gains the services of WA’s current #1 Metro rider and drops into a Class 1 from an ideal draw. Plenty to like. WAR HYMN trialled super without blinkers and has them attached for race-day. Versatile mare but may have to burn across to breeze from the wide gate. EEE PEE CEE is E1 but if he gains a start must be respected. DEFIANT DIORITE beat a nice filly to break his maiden at 100-1 ($315 his BSP). Numbers: 1 – 6 – 13 – 7 Suggested Bet – BRAVE VENTURE WIN RACE 4 NINETYONE DWYER has been a different mare under the care of Kristina Clarke. Nearly pinched a Westspeed Platinum last preparation and the two runs this time in have been excellent. Bolting without anywhere to go first-up at 1200m in a 60+ Graduation and then finished off well when supported in betting behind the inform Vitalize most recently. Drops back into a C3 and is drawn to get the right run. LAQUETTA’S GIFT had no luck at her first outing for Dion Luciani. This race lacks an obvious leader and Brad Parnham may elect to take it up. BELLE’S FANTASY is the other speed influence and she chased hard behind Sky Duke in a fast run C1 last week. DREAM EVIL is going better than numerical form suggest. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – NINETYONE DWYER WIN RACE 5 MAGIC TO EXCEED is well placed by Sean & Jake Casey. Finished 4L off Street Parade, Category Three and Lexington City first-up at 1100 when wide throughout, finished only 1.5L off Real Danger and Category Three second-up and then was only found wanting late in a 72+ behind The Velvet Queen and Speed Dream over 1400. Drops back into a C3, drawn to get the right run over the speed and goes round eachway. HENRY THE AVIATOR is a lightly raced and progressive galloper. He gets back and if conditions are suiting he’ll be hard to hold out late. Looks to have gears. MAHALEO won well first-up last preparation and trialled well. Was over a month ago that trial though. GALAXY AFFAIR is racing consistently well. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – MAGIC TO EXCEED EACHWAY RACE 6 SOVIET SPY trailled well leading into his return to racing, including running down Magic To Exceed over 950 and Billy Ray over 1100. Drew barrier 14 of 14 first-up and settled in a different postcode to them. Thought he did a good job to work to the line and beat half of them home. Better drawn here and going to follow up based on his encouraging trials. SURVEILLANCE has turned into a Northam specialist. Interesting to see whether he can handle the Ascot bend and make it a winning hattrick. CHICLETT got run down at Geraldton by a roughie who was under the bat at the 800. Gets another soft run and is building. MISSALFIE is a York/Narogin/Barker specialist but is racing very well. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – SOVIET SPY EACHWAY RACE 7 CARTANERA has put the writing on the wall at her two runs back this preparation. Split Dadirra and Keytrade first-up at 1400m and then was finishing off the Westspeed Platinum Final as well as anything from a fair way off them. Gets out to a more suitable trip, drops back into a Class 1 and Chris Parnham elects to ride her over Another Chino. ANOTHER CHINO looks the big danger and looks like he will stay all day. Sat three deep the trip after the saddle slipped and was still able to get the job done in a 1400m maiden. Looks like he’ll win plenty in time. COMEALILBITCLOSER knows how to run second but at the same time rarely runs a bad race. SHE’S OUR WITNESS like the entire Fenella Martin yard is going super and the last start effort was excellent. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – CARTANERA WIN RACE 8 STRIKE NOW gives apprentice Brayden Gaerth a genuine eachway look at an Ascot winner early in his return to race riding. Looks a wide open race with a few horses who can wind up into it including Strike Now, Dad’s Bigheaded and Pray Again. Hopefully there’s a back to follow into the race as he looks well placed dropping backing back into a 0MWLY. Last time he was in this grade he finished a head off Mystery Island, beating home Stylax and meets him 4.5kg better at the weights. STYLAX gets the gun run from the draw and with Megazone winning again on Saturday the form looks great. STAY SAFE finds his most winnable race since breaking his maiden 409 days ago. DAD’S BIGHEADED is racing in career best form. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – STRIKE NOW EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,5,10,13 1,2,3,6,9 1,2 1,3,4,5,6 Market Market
