Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 8, 2020December 9, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 NO SURRENDER ran third last start behind Ghobella and Son Son who are both in this race. Gets 2kg on Ghobella and Son Son loses Laqdar Ramoly. Those changes, coupled with a likely leaders dominated rail/wind combination means that Pateman can roll to the top and dictate to rivals. They’ll have to run him down and he’ll open a backable price. CAPTAIN BURLAR will be looking to box seat after a luckless effort in Saturday grade against the older horses last start. GHOBELLA gets back but only has a small field to navigate. SON SON is a big opportunity in town for newly transferred apprentice Spuds Galati. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – NO SURRENDER WIN RACE 2 WILCHINO hasn’t been seen at the races since September 2019 and now returns with bar plates on. Two big red flags, but her trial was effortless holding out impressive first-up winner Domineer, and the Danny Morton/Chris Parnham combination has been on fire for months and months. Expecting her to come out guns blazing in an attempt to find the breeze. HEELS A PLENTY does have gate speed but we are yet to see it used at the races care of wide gates. Can hold a position here. CHOICE BID is zippy early but suspect late in the piece. PURPLE PEARL has absolutely no weight on her back and has some handy 2 year old form to her name. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 3 – 13 Suggested Bet – WILCHINO WIN RACE 3 GINGER FLYER was handled by an inexperienced apprentice who is yet to have a race ride at trials so definitely worth watching them with a forgiving eye. Second to Chantrea, beating home Eurasia, and third behind Fingermark and Mercy Prevails is good enough form to be competitive here. Beaux Edwards should be able to work her way to the top and that should be position A on Wednesday. INTERSTATE trialled without blinkers and showed glimpses last preparation. DOOWAHDIDDY was backed as if unbeatable at Northam and duly saluted. This is a lot tougher, but she is in form. OXBRIDGE only comes out of Great Southern Racing but gets a senior rider on. Numbers 1 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – GINGER FLYER WIN RACE 4 WESTERN RHYTHM was blackbook material first-up, flat but also completely unsuited second-up in a fast run on speed dominated race, and then most recently was climbing all over the top of the them late when squeezing up the fence. William Pike returns to the saddle and provided she stays within striking distance can get nab them. MOOD GODDESS comes from the same race and both of her runs this preparation have been excellent. Well placed and well suited in this grade. MY FAIR BALENTINE has had an interrupted preparation but on her day her best is easily good enough. MAN OF THE HOUR can roll to the top for an emerging front running apprentice. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – WESTERN RHYTHM WIN RACE 5 FAIR JUSTICE will need to hold a midfield spot if the pattern is heavily on speed, but the trial and first-up runs were simply too good to ignore. Was jumping out of the ground late behind Sheza Chalmer, who a highly promising filly herself, and all her form last preparation was strong enough to be more than competitive here. NUHAD was plunged at Northam but didn’t fire a solitary shot in a very plain and disappointing performance. Interesting to see if they reinstate front running tactics again. GUNMENTAL GREY trialled like she was above average and dominated on debut. Looks a nice type. OLD MICK an improver with Paul Harvey on. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – FAIR JUSTICE EACHWAY RACE 6 CABLE GUY was huge first-up at 1400m when third behind Phoneme and Turbo Power. Second-up was allowed to flop out the back and did a massive job to get within 4L of the winner in a race which has held up as a form reference. Last start again got back and failed to get into the race at all, beaten out of sight. Mitch Pateman is far more likely to bustle him out and take up a prominent position. That can be the difference. BELLA’S IDOL is brilliantly placed by Summer Dickson and perfect use of Carleen Hefel’s 3kg claim. Backing up from Saturday, keep safe. HYPERSPACE has been knocking on the door this prep without winning. SECRET PEARL comes back to 1800m but is in white hot form. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – CABLE GUY EACHWAY RACE 7 LEICA JAGUAR has returned to racing well. Ran second behind talented 3 year old All Day Session in a C1 first-up and then was well thought of in the market in a C3 second-up when hitting the line well into fourth. Can track up in a race which should be eachway the field. SHAPE SHIFTER ran them ragged in a weak C1 but has always promised to go through the grades. MELODY’S SECRET can box seat and get every favour. OLGA LOUISA an improver with the claiming apprentice going on. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 14 – 4 Suggested Bet – LEICA JAGUAR EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,5 2,4,5,6,9 1,4,5,6,8,10 4,6,7,9,10,11,14 Market Market
