Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on March 31, 2020April 2, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 QUEEN BROWN looks to have well above average ability and bypasses the Karrakatta Plate to remain in midweek grade and step to 1400m. Looks to have the race at her mercy regardless of where she settles in the run. NO SURRENDER was thrown in the deep end on debut and came through with flying colours. Very raw but finished off very well late. MOMBASA has been screaming out for the trip his entire career. EMM TEE AYE was chasing a long way from home last start but never gave up. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – QUEEN BROWN WIN RACE 2 SAUVEGARDE is fresh at 1200 and has not put in a bad run her entire career. Victoria Corver looks to have a real future in the saddle, great use of the claim. Last start was able to stretch the neck of Talladega who won 4 from 4 in WA before being sold to Hong Kong for well over $1 million. BABY BLUES ran Time to Sizzle to within a short half head first-up and then went around at $1.50 at Bunbury in a C1 when getting the chocolates but not nearly as easily as most punters would have expected. Blinkers go on here, back to 1200, looks again hard to beat. SHAPE SHIFTER was big on debut and then lost the rider at her second outing. PALAVER went close last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – SAUVEGARDE WIN RACE 3 STELLA DOOR has always shown above average ability. Was backed from $1.8 into $1.32 first-up last campaign at Northam off the back of a hot trial effort and then pulled himself into the ground. First-up, no trial here, giving him the nod. SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK showed ability at trials and took that to the races on debut when running a ripping race. PIP has showed a bit at trials and run into a couple of handy ones at the races. MODERN TIMES is likely to come out running. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 11 – 4 Suggested Bet – STELLA DOOR WIN RACE 4 SMASHING and CHARLETON EDDIE both lead up their last start races and both look to have a fair amount of ability. With the barrier draw siding with SMASHING. Chris Parnham should be able to take full advantage of the draw with this filly stepping far better last time out. Burnt along at 1200 last start and was run down by Dom to Shoot and Queen Brown. CHARLETON EDDIE was not disgraced on debut in the Perth Stakes behind Gemma’s Son and Dark Assault. SUNNYBELLE will be a big price but could surprise a few. SAMSURIAN looks a better animal than what he showed on debut. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – SMASHING WIN RACE 5 DANI BELLA was never far away in her maiden preparation and then broke through at Ascot over 1100m when beating Uni Time (winner of 6 from 11 including a Carbine Club Stakes), Caerhelan and Heavenly Affair. Comes from a trial behind Molten and Trilly Filly who have both run good races and should get it soft three back the fence. OREO loomed the winner up the cutaway fresh but peaked on the run. Keep safe at a price. POINT TAKEN was good in the same race as Oreo. ROCK THE PLANET is just a speedster. Hard and fast for her. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – DANI BELLA EACHWAY RACE 6 KARIJINI AURORA was solid on debut when getting back and copping a bump at the top of the home straight behind Cliffs of Comfort who subsequently knocked off boom 3 year old Laverrod. Strong win last start in cracking time. Awkward gate but nice race for her. PARIS GIRL won from nearly last on a day when the rails were on fire. That win against the pattern can not be underestimated. POWER AND PASSION has not had the best start to the campaign but will be forgotten by the market. CORNFLOWER put it all together last preparation and fired off a freshen up. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – KARIJINI AURORA WIN RACE 7 Some cards just look like being dominated by short priced favourites and W.Pike and this looks another one. BERET should be settling right over the speed and this is not deep opposition. From the draw she should get every chance and be very hard to beat. SUNOL looks the testing material and a great pick-up ride for Kate Southam. Chased hard behind Oihana last start. PATY’S FORCAST comes from a maiden at Mingenew but has enough ability to figure in the finish. ENSIGN PULVER is hard to catch but on his day has a nice turn of foot. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet – BERET WIN RACE 8 ROSEBUSH has contested higher grade races than this at 9 of her last 10. She was backed from $18 into $9 last start in a C5 race which was run 3L faster than average. Even her previous efforts behind Sherpa Lass and Long Beach read very well for this race. If they’re swooping she’s a big chance. WILD FRONT ran out of his skin first-up. Huge effort to fight on as well as he did in a tougher race than this. KORANIS won back to back races impressively last campaign. KEEPER’S TALE continues to run good races at a price. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – ROSEBUSH WIN Race 9 HE’S A GUNSLINGER was heavily commissioned in a 66+ last start when finishing 7th. Drops back to 1200m and back into a C3 as a previous C3 winner. Excellent use of Kristy Bennett’s claim and from the gate should lead and take serious running down. SOLID AZZA needs conditions to suit. Not sure she’s an apprentices horse but has a big finish. UNIBRO might be more a 1000m horse but can go well fresh. FROSTY BEVERAGE consistent but possibly looking for further. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – HE’S A GUNSLINGER WIN Race 10 KELLY’S GEM draws gate 1 and if there is one spot in running that punters love seeing W.Pike it is three back the fence. Bank on the Wizard to weave his magic and get her into the clear at the right time. Has been a difficult horse to follow this preparation with not a lot going right but this looks her race and she goes round at a price. ZACKARIAH BEAU has been a model of consistency all preparation. Can not fault him. BARAMAGIC has a big turn of foot but likely settles last. I AM SPARTACUS has been building and building into the campaign. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – KELLY’S GEM EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 5,6 1,2,3,5,8 1 1,3,5,6 Market Market
