Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on March 1, 2022March 2, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CAPRICORN MAN and BIRD’S THE WORD both come from a strong 2 year old Saturday race behind Man Crush and Saintorio. Both ran well, both had excuses, both should only improve with race experience and both have gear changes made with Capricorn Man to wear winkers and Bird’s The Word to wear blinkers. Siding up with CAPRICORN MAN who ran through the line well and trialled like a horse with ability. BIRD’S THE WORD ran home well from the back of the field. Might be looking for a touch further but no doubt the shades will help. JUST GO has only had one 400m jump out. Dion Luciani is the 400m jump out King and he produces another jump and run type. MRS KANGAROO heads to an in form Luke Fernie. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – CAPRICORN MAN WIN RACE 2 HARMIKA looks a nice filly in the making and Adam Durrant keeps her at midweek grade before testing the waters in a Saturday in time. First-up maiden win was arrogant after flying the gates and settling outside the lead. Was all over at the top of the straight when she ambled straight past Critical Altitude. Like the way she goes about it. Big upside. Keep following. METALLON trialled particularly well and was popular in a 3 year old Plate behind Spin The Knife and Ruthless Tycoon after an authoritative debut win. PRINCE RAGNAR and DANCE SESSION are both high speed 1000m types. Both best allowed to roll so they’ll no doubt clap the pace on. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – HARMIKA WIN RACE 3 MULTINOVA MAN looks another wonderful ride on a big book for Clint Johnston-Porter. Hit the line on debut when third behind Rulelee, finished a close up second to American Troop at start number two and then had absolutely no luck last week when caught wide and working throughout. Love the way he stuck on and never gave it away. On the back-up he gets another go. DANGOTE drops back into a maiden after running two competitive races in 3 year old 0MWLY grade. 1.5L off Cobbanco, No Dice and Gambler’s Gold looks good form for a maiden. ROMANCING THE ROCK has worked to the line well at trials and is drawn to get a lovely run on debut. NIGHT SHIFT ran well fresh. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – MULTINOVA MAN WIN RACE 4 SAMSURIAN is well placed back into this C1 event. Trialled up well and met with support at odds first-up and then has competed in two Westspeed Platinum races (58+) and now drops back into a C1 and gains the services of Clint Johnston-Porter. Eye catching at Pinjarra two starts ago and then a solid on speed effort at 1400m most recently. Looks a great race for him. MARZIPAN LAD and SIOUX CITY are both coming from the same C1 behind Dazzling Dane who ran well in a 60+ 1400 at Ascot on Saturday. Both going well. Big weight swing in favour of Marzipan Lad from last start. CHOICE BID is a 7 day winner and is finally drawn a gate. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – SAMSURIAN WIN RACE 5 WESTERN RHYTHM looks to have found a winnable race. Clearly the mare has a level of ability, having run second in a 58+ and two C3 events throughout her career. Plain effort to the eye last start but with a senior rider going on and a few minor gear changes thinking that she can zap these. Lots of speed through Got Ya, Galaxy Cat, Gorgeous Gossip and Critical Altitude so she’ll be midfield cover and getting home late. KAYMAY comes back to the races first-up, no trial. Won on debut as a 2 year old and we all know Sue Olive gets them going fresh. GORGEOUS GOSSIP was disappointing last start. No way around it. Previous form, excellent. Being forgiving. SAASMIT has shades first time and LK Fernie is flying. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – WESTERN RHYTHM EACHWAY RACE 6 ALASKAN GOD looked the goods winning his maiden by over 1.5L without a trial. Danny Morton immediately steps him out to 1800m and it is worth noting that he holds a WATC Derby nomination. From the draw he can track up in behind them and meets a lot of horses who have been caught in C1 grade for an eternity. Lightly raced, progressive and impressive. Hard to fault and likely to be popular. RECALLED has bars on the front which is a red flag after being withdrawn from Saturday’s Lex Piper but his effort in the Challenge was strong enough to be the testing material here. FREE SOLO is well placed back into a C1 after competing well in a 66+ and a 60+ Graduation his last two. BELAFONTE BOY is racing well. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – ALASKAN GOD WIN RACE 7 SHOES OF EKRAAR is a handy midweek type and looks to have fallen into an open and even race. Thought his first-up effort was better than it reads on paper and if it turns into a 3 deep cover type of day with the rail at 9m and the SW blowing then he’s a live hope at a double figure quote. Race looks like it could produce a blow out. ARNO THE FOX has gone to a new level since Liz Strempel spaced his runs. In career best form. BLONDE WARRIOR is likely to be three back the fence in traffic in this event. Her first-up run was outrageously good and she showed it was no fluke last start. Will need a 10/10 from CJP. LUKE’S CHOICE doesn’t win out of turn and seems to do his best work away from Ascot (0 from 15 at the track) but he is in solid consistent form. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHOES OF EKRAAR EACHWAY RACE 8 ALL MAN was a sneaky run first-up when hitting the line relatively well on a heavily leader dominated program. Second-up he got under the guard and won in this grade before being held up the entire length of the home straight last start. Barrier 16 looks horrendous on paper but there’s a guaranteed three and four deep line here. With cover he’s a winning chance. WITHOUT REASON was a flashing light run at his most recent when he met with good backing at an eachway quote. $31 into $13 and was getting home better than anything in the final furlong. FRIAR AWAY loves Ascot and can do it in fast run staying races and slowly run staying races. ACERMETRIC is on trial at the 2200m but can park leader’s back or even kick through to lead this event. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – ALL MAN EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,5,9 1,3,4 2,3,4,5,9 1,5,6,8,11 Market Market
