Scott Embry’s Thursday York Preview Posted on May 14, 2025May 14, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FAVOURED SON gets one last chance. Beaten a nose by Super Sunny here two back and last start was no match for Star Hostess. Expecting him to be ridden for speed and look to hold on late. His last 100m he’ll be vulnerable, but hopefully has enough in hand. BELVEDERE ROCK Is making his debut off the back of two trial wins for new trainer Barry Newnham at Geraldton. He’s nicely placed into a Maiden Handicap (now that Geraldton has finished their season) and expecting him to run well. LONGTIMEBELIEVER finished third in the same race Favoured Son ran second in behind Star Hostess two back. ERANGY’S LEGACY next best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – FAVOURED SON WIN RACE 2 PLAYING FOR TIME went around in a near identical race last start (1500m Maiden Handicap at York) and finished off well behind Myzoom. The wider draw might be in her favour, as she can be put into the race from the 600m and sustain a run around them. COUSIN MORTIMER likely ends up in a similar position in running to Playing For Time. One will go, the other will follow. Might comes down to who pulls the trigger first. GRANDAD’S ADDICTION has blinkers on first time and will no doubt find this easier than the recent Ascot maidens that he has contested. Showing enough to command respect. SUPER SAIYAN went around 150-1 first-up behind Across Generations but was only beaten 2.5L. This is much easier. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – PLAYING FOR TIME WIN RACE 3 MAGNACHINE resumed 27 days ago behind Anaballistic and subsequent winner Magnique in a C1 at Ascot. She’s now into a 46+ at York and after the 4kg claim for stable apprentice Natika Riordan she’s only got 56.5kg. This is outstanding placement and from the draw she should get every favour. IF I DIN HAVADIME went around in a 66+ at Ascot only five starts back. Last time she raced in a 46+ she nearly won. Another brilliantly placed. ELSA’S PRIDE only knows one way – jump and run. INCANDESCENT LADY trialled really well on the Sand Fibre in her first trial. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – MAGNACHINE WIN RACE 4 PRETTY DIVINE went around in a 46+ at York two starts ago and gave Sharni Webster her first winner. That was over 1300m with 59.5kg and this is over 1200m with 59kg. She’ll need to jump cleanly with speed underneath (Teabiscuit, Cheeky Charlotte and Exporose) but if she can get herself to the breeze early then she’s a tough little mare who will fight all the way. EXPOROSE has won her last two and the most recent of them was a huge confidence boosting 3.7L win. Can she cop the pressure though? CHEEKY CHARLOTTE and TEABISCUIT might be suspect at the end of a high speed 1200. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – PRETTY DEVINE WIN RACE 5 GOOD VIBES continues on the run of 4kg claiming apprentices with massive opportunities from their respective supporters. Freshened 5 weeks between runs, 52+ back to a 46+ and capable of leading or box seating from the ideal barrier. Think she’s a better mare leader’s back but if nobody wants the front then she’s capable of leading and winning too. Perfect apprentice horse. SNIP’S ROCK usually takes a run but was huge first-up behind Romming Danger. If she reproduces that run second-up she’ll take serious beating into a 46+. WORK HOME FRONT is always there abouts in 46+ company. HOT LIKE CHILI will get back but can flood home late. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – GOOD VIBES WIN RACE 6 DESERT SLEEVE ran a ripper first-up behind Exporose in a day where it was near impossible to make ground and then never got into the race second-up in a C3 at Ascot. Ready to get out over ground and considering the weak opposition going to pull the trigger even though it might be one start early. NORMA STARS finished second to Mine Host in a 46+ 1900 only three starts ago and last time out raced well outside the handicap when only 3L off progressive 3 year old Redback Flyer. Can win and would be a great story of patience. WILLPOWER is a one paced stayer who can be put into it. LUCKY HEART is racing below his best. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – DESERT SLEEVE WIN RACE 7 JOLLY LACE is always worth following in these types of races. She’s had 6 starts at the York 1500 for 2 wins and 3 minors. Had 61.5kg last start so happy to forgive her and follow on her previous form. Just hoping she isn’t looking for further. SIDE SHOW won a 52+ 1720 at Narrogin four back, finished second to Redback Flyer (since won a 60+ Graduation) three back and since then has gone around in a C3 and a 0MWLY. Back to a 52+ is his go. MYZOOM seemed to love the York circuit when she broke her maiden. ROCK OF KAHA sneaks right back in grade. Don’t discount. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – JOLLY LACE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,8 1,2 1,3,8 2,3,7,8 Market Market
