Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 26, 2025August 26, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BEGAAFD looks to have found another extremely winnable staying maiden. Given the volume of rain around at the minute expecting that this will turn into a real grinding slog and the fact that he’s had 5 runs over the distance should give Steve Parnham the confidence to take him to the top and then turn it into a staying test from the 600. THINK QUICK gets through the wet tracks and will sit back and wind up out wide. If she stays she’s the danger. MIDSUMMER MIST was a bit improver last start and backs up off 7 days. AHH CHOUX ran a handy minor on a bottomless Heavy8 at Bunbury three starts back over ground. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – BEGAAFD WIN RACE 2 XENTARO is 6 weeks between runs after going around in a 2 year old midweeker behind Riva Aquarama (now a C1 winner) and perennial place-getter Guarantor. Drops back into maiden grade and looks a horse with better than maiden grade ability. Would prefer if this was a bit further for him but rain affected tracks are a leveller. ESPRESSO TIME has looked good in both of his trials and like the way he kept attacking the line behind Mr Kissinger in the most recent. EYE OF THE FLY went well fresh behind Silver Livia and Jimmy Angel (races Wednesday at Belmont). TABBA TABBA BOOM has improved at each trial and Snip Of Romance did win last week on the Fibre Sand. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – XENTARO WIN RACE 3 BONDI BUSINESS was well found in betting on debut back in October at an eachway price and ran really well, splitting Psycho Sista and Summer’s Legacy. Has since spelled and trialled twice: once back in April and didn’t make it to the races and then most recently when winning in a bit of style a fortnight ago. Might be a handy type. SWINGMAN has always trialled well and went straight to a Perth Stakes on debut as a 2 year old. Into an all age maiden and drawn to get all the favours. DASHING DIVA was tested in her trial but kept finding for Pat Carbery who rides at 53.5kg. WHOS BENT is accepted for Wednesday and Thursday. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 14 – 9 Suggested Bet – BONDI BUSINESS WIN RACE 4 TORQUE OF WAR trialled well leading into his return and ran well behind Saam Time Lucky, Take The Field and Playing Free. Still happy with that form line even though Playing Free flopped last week and winding up three/four deep with cover on a rain affected Northam surface looks a winnable map. SWIFT TALKER won his trial in handy time relative to the rest of the heats and Simon Miller doesn’t mind taking a maiden with ability to Northam. EXQUISITE TASTE has only been to the races once and that was when a very easy pre-post favourite and failing to fire a shot. Looks like he needs every inch of 1300m. FLAMING RONDA should cross to lead. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – TORQUE OF WAR WIN RACE 5 ACES TO WIN only ran fifth last start in a moderate C 1650 at Belmont Park, however, not convinced barrier 1 did him any favours. He’s a momentum animal and drawing barrier 10/10 could be a blessing here. Stable in form, hoop in form and no standouts in this. ROYAL SPLENDOUR resumed in a 60+ Graduation 1400m when 3L behind Lombadina, Hey Pinot and Cruise To Victory. Not a bad return without a trial and second-up is back in grade. EL PATRON is highly consistent, he’s just allergic to winning. Be in front for a long, long way (again) but can he hold on? RANDOM REWARDS tries hard but is still a big question mark on the wet tracks. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – ACES TO WIN EACHWAY RACE 6 GIRLS ON FIRE sat three deep the trip on the Fibre Sand to break her maiden and then was beaten in a narrow photo last start this distance/grade when still beating home key rival The Lucky Chip. Double accepted for Wednesday and Thursday, interesting to see which way Michael Lane ends up going. THE LUCKY CHIP would become the on top selection should Girls On Fire run at Belmont. No world beater but continues to run honest races. CHAMPAGNE CRUSADER got into heavy traffic last week at Pinjarra. Forgive and forget. URQUHARTS BLUFF won well on debut and trialled really well leading into his return but was bitterly disappointing first-up. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – GIRLS ON FIRE WIN RACE 7 KIRALUI is an honest mare who tends to win races 1) for Shaun O’Donnell; and 2) when drawn soft to be saved up for one last burst of speed – that’s the set up here. She’s coming out of an extremely fast run Westspeed Platinum race, reunites with her #1 hoop and gets every mortal chance to track up behind Estimator and pounce on straightening. FORTUNES LUCK is having her 12th run of the prep but just continues to go well. Runs for ZJP and tracks Kiralui into it. MY JIMMY is going better this prep but still not at the level of 18 months ago. KELORA hasn’t been on his best behaviour first-up or second-up. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – KIRALUI WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,4,7,10,13 1,2,5 1,4,5,6,9 4,8 Market Market
