Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on June 10, 2025June 10, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 APHRODITE MAGIC was brave when three deep the trip behind Regal Service (since C3 placed to American Escape). Last week was in the breeze in a muddlingly run race and never looked likely. On the 6 day back-up going to give her another chance in what looks a thin maiden. CHINESE DENTIST was crunched in late betting on debut when no match for stablemate De Grandhomme. Trials alright and Pike booked the big tick. CASSENITE can settle much closer from her better barrier and has been attacking the line. LACEY MARIE showed enough in the Scenic George / Diamonds’n’Rubies trial. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – APHRODITE MAGIC WIN RACE 2 CANTILEVER raced like a gelding who would need 1600-2000. He settled near last in a race which was dominated close handy to the speed. Better drawn, better suited, going to follow him off that first-up performance. QUEEN ARIA finished second to a nice horse last start in Our Paladin Al. She’s no star the filly but she’ll be pinching a mile maiden like this over the next few starts. FLYING CHOUX is ready to win. Minors three starts in a row and then last time out at Northam just got a mile out of his ground from a wide draw. No excuses now. RELIABLE IMAGE next best. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – CANTILEVER WIN RACE 3 METALIC MARLIN has shown glimpses of ability right back into his 2 year old days. His fresh run over 1300m was excellent and one of the best parts about Lucy Fiore’s riding recently is that she’s putting horses a pair closer than they usually race. Dan O’Connor doesn’t have many in work but given how Gratias Deo is going, happy to trust the Marlin. QUAGMIRE ran well enough last preparation and comes through a 1000m trial under a junior rider where the winner got the job done first-up. RANYX rolled to the top in blinker last start and only gave it away in the last 100m. Back in distance and a 3kg claim should see him right in the finish. ANKAREEDA has had plenty of trials to prepare her for her debut. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – METALIC MARLIN WIN RACE 4 SKULL BONE AND PIG was the talk of the track first-up in a 3 year old Plate when going around a $5.50 chance. He somehow found himself in front in a very ugly race where nobody could work out where they wanted to settle in the first 400m. In the end he faded back through the field and finished last, however, beaten 4.2L Pond Master and Earthstorm is still easily the best form in the race. First time to a maiden, Pike, odds on. LA EXCELLENCE was sound behind Soldier of God last start. FINAL CALL gave plenty of cheek in his first two starts of his career. HOPE TO ADMIRE gets a much better run here than last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SKULL BONE AND PIG WIN RACE 5 ELEGANT INDI has a set of shades going on and Pike sticking. She beat key rival Kermelia in her maiden and last time out struck a race where they struggled to make any real inroads. Starwalker won out of that race to frank the form at this level. AH KUM got the job done last Thursday in a 2000m maiden on a Soft6 at Bunbury and was held up into the corner too. He’s improving each run. KERMELIA went around last Wednesday behind Starwalker and after being slow away settled last. Can take up a better spot here. COVENTRY REEF improved big time last week when allowed to stride. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – ELEGANT INDI WIN RACE 6 OUR PALADIN AL beat absolutely nothing last start so he will need to continue to improve, but confident that he’s the kind of 3 year old who will get better and better every time he goes to the races. Also think that he’ll be a better chaser and looks on paper like that’s the go here. KING MAHUTA trialled well over 950m on two occasions and then went to a 60+ Graduation first-up over an unsuitable 1300m. Didn’t think he was disgraced and is far better suited both in C3 company and at 1600m. FANCY RED led and gave a bit of a kick last start. She’ll be better with cover. MIRRORSCHINO has hit form. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – OUR PALADIN AL WIN RACE 7 CHOP SUEY let rip with a big turn of foot last start and has Shaun O’Donnell back in the saddle now. Had a few bad luck runs down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra and if he can show the same turn of acceleration here over 1300m he’ll be hard to hold out. LINDEN’S GOLD missed away last start and that cost him dearly. Hopefully with the blinkers off he’ll step and give himself every chance. LENIENCY hasn’t seen a race of this nature for a long, long while. CROSS STATEMENT is the perfect 4kg claimer’s horse. Works his way to the top and kicks hard. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – CHOP SUEY WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1 1,2,3,4 3,4,5,6,7,8 1,2,4,6,8 Market Market
