Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on October 16, 2024October 16, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BOUDOIR BELLE looks a jump and run short course horse at this stage of her life. She’s in an 1100m on debut and in her most recent trial she looked comfortable against the fence and being allowed to stride. This race has plenty of depth but she’ll be in front for a long way. HAIDA GWAII was annihilated in betting on debut and hit the front on the point of the corner before being swamped in the shadows. Improves for the run and looks promising. ADMIRE THE GIRL and CASINO NURSE are just two of a number of impressive trialers on debut. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – BOUDOIR BELLE WIN RACE 2 ZOUCONI was sent out favourite on debut at Pinjarra over 1200m as a 2 year old and was left in the breeze when run down late by Timeless Gem and dual subsequent winner Bondi Bay. Recent trial was strong and she should be able to work her way forward into a commanding position in running. SURF PATROL was in the same trial and covered plenty of ground. Didn’t give it away. MAKWELL SMART was working through the line nicely in his recent 1000m trial at Belmont behind a nice one. SURFSIDE SESSION may want a bit further than 1000 but has a future. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – ZOUCONI WIN RACE 3 TRUE PLAYER settled last first-up over 1400m at Bunbury and came wide on a day where you had to be fence / fence in run and bursting through. Thought it was a super effort to get within 2L of Olympic Park and at a more forgiving Northam track and over 1600m he looks very hard to hold out late. SWEET EYES went straight to a mile at her second career start, sat in the breeze and fought on well into third. Fitter for the run. CHOICE THINKING draws better and has been winding up late in his races. AH KUM draws to do no work. Numbers: 6 – 12 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – TRUE PLAYER WIN RACE 4 TALKAWAY went around favourite on debut when finishing second behind impressive winner Flower of Gold (races Wednesday at Ascot). The barrier makes things difficult being drawn 15/16 (jumps from 11 of 12) but if he can get a half decent run then he looks to have above average ability. BELTA OF A SONG has gone close on a few occasions for a 3kg claimer recently who is now replaced by William Pike. Big respect for the big mare! HYPERREAL maps well and was a forgive last start. YOUGIVEMECHILLS looks like he’ll get out over ground. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – TALKAWAY WIN RACE 5 POND MASTER was beaten as a $1.60 pop 11 days ago at Northam but in review the fence may not have been the place to be at that particular meeting. Happy to forgive, forget and follow him through into this all age maiden. Tongue tie goes on too and most importantly Pike sticks. ZORBRIST endured a very tough run last start and was only collared late in the race. If he can get any luck from the wide draw he looms as the big danger. MISTER RAFFLES saddle slipped last start and he amazingly still ran well. LADY TREMAINE is going super and was stiff to run into one like Queen Of Hawks at Geraldton. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – POND MASTER WIN RACE 6 QUEEN OF HAWKS may need to burn early to get across being drawn outside of Shasfa and Lord Shiva but as long as she doesn’t get trapped three deep the trip then she should be hard to beat. Only coming off a Geraldton maiden win but her effort on debut in a 3 year old Plate would still see her hard to beat in a C1. BUTTERFLY HOUSE sat wide throughout (and wider round the corner) at her return to racing and still finished third. Now draws to box seat. LORD SHIVA has been a costly conveyance this campaign and had no excuses last start. CLASSIC RULER will get back and flash late. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – QUEEN OF HAWKS WIN RACE 7 KELORA trialled super behind Amjaad leading into his return to racing and then found the 1200m too sharp fresh behind Prospector’s Pick and subsequent winner Stormageddon. Went to a C5 1400m last start and only got out once the race was over when bursting through heavy traffic late. This is very winnable for him. CRIMMO trialled really well alongside Ascot Opening Day winner Cosmic Crusader. Got loose first-up before being afforded no luck. SMART SHADOW a big chance if scratching Wednesday. MORE LIKELY was stiff last start. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – KELORA WIN RACE 8 LORD GANNICUS ran for apprentice Chanel Cooper in his trial on 26 August when beating now Dual Group One Placed stable star Alsephina. Fresh was super over an unsuitable distance, second-up was solid behind a highly in form Desert Nymph and then didn’t seem to handle the trip to Kalgoorlie on Cup Day. Back in grade and drawn to park over the speed. Good placement. CANNY JACK will have plenty of admirers drawn to be three back the fence with Pike aboard. Going well. FAMOUS DAIN is always there abouts and gets big weight relief. SECRET IDENTITY may go to Saturday but if he starts here is worth consideration. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – LORD GANNICUS WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 4,7,8 1,2,4,7 1,2,4,5,8 1,6,8 Market Market
