Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on October 27, 2021October 27, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 RECALLED took on the older horses in a C1 last start at Ascot over 1800m and ended up getting shuffled back into an awkward position without much room to move or build momentum. Got to the line well enough to suggest that in a 2200m maiden he would take beating. JAFETICA lead them up running in the middle stages of her most recent assignment. Got the wobbles late and faded in the last 200. XCAVATE has been looming into races like this over the last month. Just not quite able to pinch one yet. GLENAUREEN is produced first-up at 2200m by Brian Kersley. Huge training effort if successful. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – RECALLED WIN RACE 2 FAMOUS JURNEY is placed to perfection by Jim Taylor after showing he is going to be more than competitive in higher grades of racing than this. Won his maiden leading throughout, nailed in the shadows of the post in a Westspeed Platinum by Snippilicious (beating home subsequent winner Apple Schnapps) and then was only run down late in a C5 at Northam. Drops back into a C1, only rises 1kg in weight and provided Rosie Mahony can get him out of the gates and to the top he’ll be hard to beat. BUTTERFLY HOUSE was a nice quiet trial and a soft win on debut. Let down really impressively and looks like she’ll go to bigger and better things in time. COPPING POINTS caught the eye at trials. THE WHITE WITCH didn’t come up last campaign. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – FAMOUS JURNEY WIN RACE 3 FRIGID and SEEABLE are two debutantes who will bring eyes and attention to this Northam 1100m maiden. FRIGID got tongues wagging at Lark Hill back in June with a booming finishing run that got trial watchers talking. Transferred across from Grant & Alana Williams to Hayden Ballantyne and again hit the line impressively under W.Pike at Lark Hill, this time over 930m. Visors on, barrier blanket on and a sticky draw. Interesting to see what punters do with the filly. SEEABLE is produced on debut without a trial. Every time he has gone to the trials he has impressed and looks like he’ll settle right over the speed whereas the filly will be out the back. THE LADY IS A VAMP comes from a hot 3 year old race behind Buzzoom, Hardly Ever and Devoted. LET’S GALAHVANT picked himself up nicely after copping significant interference in his recent trial. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – FRIGID WIN RACE 4 MY DILEMMA trialled alongside Magnificent Andy and matched motors with him for the majority of the home straight under little riding by Chris Parnham. First-up settled off the speed and worked home well enough behind Success Play and Market Stryke to suggest that with the blinkers added and the fitness under her belt that she’ll take beating in a far weaker maiden. NOBLE SCOT comes from the same race. Pike replaces Watson so there’s a 3kg weight swing in favour of My Dilemma. Not an easy horse to ride by the looks. DARN NOBLE again comes from that race and didn’t fire a shot. The trial was nice so being forgiving. ALLEGIANCE has the one big run and rating against her name behind Jedi Mind. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – MY DILEMMA EACHWAY RACE 5 RARE ENCOUNTER is the second Hayden Ballantyne Peters Investments debutante on the card. This filly is also drawn awkwardly for her debut but much like Frigid looks to have a serious motor under the hood. Looks professional and looks ready to win races early in her career. 1300m gives her a chance to find her feet and provided they can make ground she should exhibit sufficient firepower to gun them down. BE OPTIMISTIC did run third in a Pinjarra Magic Million behind Ex Sport Man and Heavenly Waters beating home some handy types. Keep safe. MY MARLIANA ran well on debut and looks to have above average ability. SILVER BUGG continues to attack the line from a long way off them. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – RARE ENCOUNTER WIN RACE 6 JAG THE JOKER and William Pike have a wonderful record together. The last two times the Wizard has jumped aboard Ash Maley’s grey she has won. C5 1200 at Belmont on a Heavy8, C5 1300m at Northam on a Good4. She’s versatile, she’s rock hard fit and amazingly having her 16th run of the preparation. Continues to produce and maps to get every mortal hope here. KORANIS’ trainer Jarrad Noske calls on himself for riding duties. The overall form from the last 6 months is arguably the strongest in the field and while he is 40 days between runs expecting him to go well. TIFF HAS SPOKEN is a hard horse to catch but on his day he’d be winning this. HE’S ALL MIGHTY had a few excuses last Wednesday. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – JAG THE JOKER WIN RACE 7 DARK LASS steps out to the staying trip for the first time. Always like to see them have a run at the distance before getting involved but the exception to the rule is the Peters Investments runners, many who are bred to get the trip and seem to grow a leg when they get to the staying trips. William Pike rides these staying contests better than anyone and from the draw he will have the mare tracking up nicely behind the speed. REGAL CITY raced outside the handicap last tart and wasn’t disgraced. This is more his go. CIRCLE THE SUN is coming from a lowly C1 but looks an out and out stayer. BEANIE is in great form this campaign. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – DARK LASS WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,6,9 2,4,11 1,2,5 1,2,3,5,6,8,9 Market Market
