Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on July 31, 2019 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 DESIGNER PRINCE has run third at his past two starts and while they were both beaten a long way they were both truly run staying races. The Delta Belle race was almost 3 lengths above maiden benchmark and the C1 behind Here Comes Lenni was 5 lengths above C1 benchmark. He should win this. KEBALAH historically has carried 3kg claiming apprentices. Pike on can be the difference. DATA LAKE was big first-up at a mile. Straight to 2200m raises some fitness queries. ROCKFORD LEGEND looks like picking up one of these weak staying maidens. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – DESIGNER PRINCE WIN Race 2 BORN TO TRY was held up in behind runners in a recent trial and then flashed late when finally getting into open running behind a smart Peters Investments type in Western Queen. Even affair and can win on debut. ANGELIC MISS trialed well, draws inside and the Miller camp continue to prove themselves lengths above rivals when it comes to young horses. SOME SORT has trialed well for a return to racing and races prominent to the speed. FOXHOOD was a nice enough trial and can improve against the fence. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – BORN TO TRY WIN Race 3 MIMS WIN does a lot wrong. The two trials he ran around like a drunken sailor and then did similar at his return to the races. If Whiting can keep him straight he’ll take serious beating. GOD’S LAND and GREY DANCER trialed together and on that occasion God’s Land had the better of Grey Dancer. Expecting similar race day. SEA LAKE was a big trial and could be worth keeping safe again here. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 11 – 9 Suggested Bet – MIMS WIN, WIN Race 4 SMUG NOXIOUS is one who may get under the guard of a few punters here. Trialed well in two 1450m trials and then went into a mile race on debut where giving cheek until the top of the straight. Improved at her second start when only collared in the closing stages. VEEBEE gave zero first-up but can be forgiven. Form last time in was good enough and shades go on. SON OF THE SUN was crunched late first-up but never gave a yelp. Now draws a gate. PRAIRDY has hit form. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SMUG NOXIOUS WIN Race 5 AMILLIONITE will be given one last chance by most favourite backers. Has gone under at his last three in the shadows of the post and now she is a mile back to 1400, blinkers on and drawn a gate. Last roll. POLITE PASS ran three eye catchers before a couple of moderate performances. TRIPLE PLAN was well supported last start and ran a nice race. NERO CHIN CHIN is new to WA and brings intrigue. Numbers: 5 – 10 – 8 – 12 Suggested Bet – AMILLIONITE WIN Race 6 SUGAR CAIN may go up sharply in weight but Pike back on is worth 4kg to her, minimum. She simply runs for him and he times these staying races to perfection. She should accelerate past them. CROSLEY HOTSHOT can stay and Noske rides him well. Expecting a big run. DIPLOMAT EXPRESS loves the track and should get every chance from the draw. WESTERN STAR is still knocking on the door. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – SUGAR CAIN WIN Race 7 BUTTERLEA LAD won well two starts ago in a race which was dominated from the front but held off the sharp and progressive Zaratite. Far from disgraced last start at a staying trip and now fresh, back to a mile and into a weak race gets another wonderful chance to salute. WEE RIPPER didn’t fire fresh but is better than that. Draws a gate and finds a suitable assignment. ARSINOE should find this more to her liking. Has a sharp turn of foot. FRENCH TOAST is yet to flatter in WA but showed glimpses. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – BUTTERLEA LAD WIN Race 8 I’M ICEY was beaten a long way last start in a small field, however, on the day in the inside pad was absolutely poison and at least three lengths inferior. The race was run well above benchmark and in a moderate C1 he can bounce back. PEARLS FROM HEAVEN is likely looking for further but has nice 3 year old midweek form from last preparation. EUPHONIOUS is yet to fire a shot but again waiting for an improved performance. FLYING TARGET is finding it impossible to get over the line but is being given every chance by Pike. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – I’M ICEY EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 5 6 1,2,5 1,2,3,5,7,8,9,10,12 Market Market
