Scott Embry’s Thursday Geraldton Preview Posted on March 19, 2025March 19, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HEWILLDOUS was a fast finishing fourth first-up in a slowly run race behind Eighty Mile Beach (dual subsequent winner Dug Another Hole back in third) and then really caught the eye behind Superfluous, subsequent winner Masterly and Idodomya. Missed a run last week with the abandoned meeting at Belmont so is a month between runs but this is a weak country maiden and he has upside. VERMILLION GEM gets shades and has run well enough this campaign. IL BELLO BEALS can lead. BLATANT DISARRAY always thereabouts. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – HEWILLDOUS WIN RACE 2 NOW SHOWING has a lot to learn. Wants to lay in horribly and hasn’t been fully tested this campaign, but hopefully a weaker jurisdiction, more experience and a soft run in transit can help him show his best. Troy Turner sticks, he comes through a high rating maiden at Bunbury and finds a winnable set up. ROSA CHAMPLAIN trialled really well without blinkers and then raced first-up in them. Like the shades off move. SHASHENO is knocking on the door and does have some speed. CATERAN was a big improver last start. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – NOW SHOWING WIN RACE 3 ONE GINGER FOX has gone around at 100-1 at both starts in her career so far but this race is easily 6-7L easier than anything she has seen. Raced Nicely Played/Amaroo Star/Mister Raffles first-up, raced Sixinch Heels second-up. Expecting big improvement into a country maiden. MYZOOM finds this much easier than a 3 year old Saturday! ROCK DA HOOD went around nearly 100-1 last start but went closed behind Conservative Miss who has won again since. BLAZEN STAR was in that same line-up and now draws a gate. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – ONE GINGER FOX WIN RACE 4 ON THE MARK looks like he’ll be putting on another galloping exhibition in the Mid-West. He’s built a real cult hero status in the region, something that probably hasn’t been seen since Corn Cob / Startrade went on winning rampages in recent years. He belongs in Perth and very shortly they’ll have no choice weights/ratings wise! SURE NO SOMETHING is a great marker horse because he’s won in town already, and On The Mark thumped him last start. GOLD KEEPER tries hard. REGAL CITY not as good on grass as the dirt. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – ON THE MARK WIN RACE 5 BUTTERFLY ROCK has announced herself as the best local chance of winning the Geraldton Cup this year. She has won four of her last five and is just getting better and better with racing. Tash Faithfull reunites with the mare, she’s drawn to get the run of the race in barrier 2, she’s versatile and she’s winning soft at the moment. BOMBAY STYLE gets a 1kg weight swing to try and turn the tables. If he won at 2100m he would show just how brilliant an animal he has been for Julia Martin (Already is). SET THE SCENE will be better for the run. HARD QUESTIONS keeps building to Cup Day. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – BUTTERFLY ROCK WIN RACE 6 COLLECTIVE had been racing very well all season since joining new trainer Albert Bowtell. She finally got a well deserved, confidence boosting win on the board and think she’s a big chance of going back to back here. Up in grade, but gets 1.5kg weight relief and think it’s key that she stays at 1600m. Capable of winning her way through the grades. SPECIAL PLAN was first-up, off 83 days and ran into a red hot Bolta. Good return. SANABEAU meets Collective 2kg worst at the weights for being beaten last start. TRADED CROWN is hard to catch. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – COLLECTIVE WIN RACE 7 AWESOME LILY could prove one of the most astute Inglis Online purchases of recent times. New owner Barry Evans paid $12,000 for her and within a fortnight had her off to the races and pocketed $21,060 (including bonus’) for her maiden win. Won soft. NEW ATTRACTION broke her maiden in style and can go on with it now. DAIYAMONDO ran home well first-up over 1200m and looks suited out to 1400m here, however, she’s been thrown a very tough barrier to overcome. I’M ON has teased punters all season without winning. Numbers: 9 – 6 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – AWESOME LILY WIN RACE 8 THE SLAP finished second to Bolta and then finished fifth a long way behind Bolta and Special Plan. Like the Bolta form, but you have to be trusting with a 10L margin against his name. Drawn well, Troy Turner on, back in distance – all ticks. CLEVER COMBAT beat Ironclad Boy and Collective two starts back. Just may want 1400. CONSERVATIVE MISS is all of a sudden looking to win a third straight race. Burst onto the scene out of nowhere in the last month. TORPEDOMAN is all or nothing. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – THE SLAP WIN Quaddie (Race 5 –8) 1,2 2,5 2,3,4,5,6,9 2,3,4,6,7 Market Market
