Scott Embry’s Thursday Albany Preview Posted on April 9, 2024April 9, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BRAVE SPIRIT has finished 1.25L off Generosity, Ripcord and All Play in a Belmont Park 3 year old 1000 first-up. This preparation he’s contesting an Albany maiden over 1100m and you would think that this is the reason that Shaun McGruddy heads south on a Thursday afternoon. Looks the winner – odds on all day though. LIPS DON’T LIE had no luck whatsoever at her WA debut. This is easier and she looks the danger. GOOD SONG was honest and consistent earlier in the season. PRINCE VICTORY ran a cheeky race on debut. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – BRAVE SPIRIT WIN RACE 2 OXBRIDGE has been the 70+ Great Southern Sprinting measuring stick all season. The only horse that has been able to go with him and beat him in the ratings races seems to be Beau Zoom and without that galloper in the line-up he’s given another wonderful chance of leading and winning. Loses his regular rider which is a slight concern and is right up to 60.5kg but he’s jump and run and will take running down yet again. RUSSIAN SNIPER has had a really good campaign in these c70+ type races at Geraldton, Barker and Albany. ROCAPOZZENE is quick but may elect to sit on Oxbridge. CLASSIC MAGNUS is never far from the winner. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – OXBRIDGE WIN RACE 3 FRANTIC WAR won back to back races in 58+ company and then last start was backed into $1.40 when missing out all together. Willing to forgive and forget one below par performance and suggest that he can bounce back here. Looks a race without a great deal of top end tempo so expecting him to slide across and find a commanding position. DOES HE KNOW hasn’t raced for 74 days but showed on occasion last campaign that he’s capable of measuring up at this level. HOT CHATTER has finished second at her last two outings and Madi Derrick sticks with her, potentially ahead of Frantic War? LONG KNIFE BROTHER is going super. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – FRANTIC WAR WIN RACE 4 WARRALEA LASS has gone from 1240 to 1600 (x2) to 2400m and now drops back to 1600m. She’s had a testing preparation but she’ll be the fittest horse in this line-up and she was only beaten 2L in a Group 3 WA Oaks last start behind Own The Queen, Miss Skyhigh and Flash Of Dallas. Some of the fillies progress to the WATC Derby on the weekend and she heads to an Albany maiden. Ready to win. KAMAKAZI SHOOTER has run honest races since joining Paul Hunter and can slide forward. PRIDE OF TUSCANY is first-up at 1600 which is an ask. YAKYAK is a long time maiden now. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – WARRALEA LASS WIN RACE 5 GENERAL KNOWLEDGE has his first start in WA and looks really well placed by Michael Lane. Won over 1100m on debut and since then has raced around predominantly in BM64/BM58. Has been beaten margins in recent Lark Hill trials but against better types than he meets here. Thinking from the draw he can hold a decent position and run a race. GAGE ROADS should have finished closer at his first outing for Steve Wolfe. Aggressively placed back into a C2 where he’ll have to lump 62.5kg. HOW PRETTY is two from two this campaign and showing a nice turn of foot. HEEZA BEAU was backed heavily first-up. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – GENERAL KNOWLEDGE WIN RACE 6 FLASH DUCATI hasn’t fired a shot this preparation but dropping back into a Country C2 he should be a big improver. Only 4.4L off Bonjoy three starts back and then hasn’t had much luck at his last two outings when sitting wide throughout behind Tin Chooks, Lord Gannicus and Paigey’s Turn and most recently behind Fly With Caution. Not at his best but this is a weak race. PUNTERS PILOT is a last start maiden winner and should get all the favours from barrier 1. YES OF COURSE can be hit and miss. On his day he rolls and is hard to get past. VANCOUVER LAD found the line well last start. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – FLASH DUCATI WIN RACE 7 FLOPPY and BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE were both really well found in betting on Albany Cup Day and both saluted. Floppy won a 58+ 1500 and Beautiful Baroque won a C2 1600. They both step out to 1940m here and considering that Beautiful Baroque won a C2 1850 at Barker back in January we’ll side up with her. FLOPPY has turned into a really honest and consistent galloper with Helen Harding. DOUBLE THUMBS UP ran second behind Beats Of War in the Great Southern Cup only two starts back. ODDONEOUT doesn’t win out of turn but is going well. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,10 1,2,3,4 1,3,4,5,10 2,3,9 Market Market
