Scott Embry’s Thursday Albany Preview Posted on March 7, 2023March 7, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DESERT PETARD is double nominated for a maiden at Pinjarra on Wednesday and a maiden at Albany on Thursday. Given that this race is 5 – 6L weaker and only a field of five you’d imagine he likely starts in this. Solid effort last start in a C1 1800 at Ascot when only 5L off Another Chino and Maktastic. Prior run was luckless in a Geraldton maiden. PLAYIN’ HARDBALL is the full sister to Platoon and has been trialling like she’s ready to win first-up. Should Desert Petard not start then she looks the one. DR ON CALL has shown glimpses in his races. BONAMICO next best. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – DESERT PETARD WIN RACE 2 SNIPPAGEM has won two of her last five and this looks just as suitable. She’s a last start 58+ 1600m winner and stays in the same grade and only rises 1.5kg. She’s likely to have to sit parked just behind speedy 10 year old Little Punga but with the fitness advantage and the weight advantage expect her to prove too classy for these. She’s a winner off 4 days and 6 days previously. Ticks all the boxes. HIP WIGGLE hasn’t been seen at the races for 54 days. She’ll sit midfield and chase hard. LITTLE PUNGA is always capable of giving cheek in this grade. ROCK OF KAHA next best. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – SNIPPAGEM WIN RACE 3 CATCH THESE HANDS resumes and while he’s probably looking for further he can stay in touch from the inside draw and with the cutaway in play he can get the splits on straightening. Loved his trial behind Leniency where he looked to have plenty to offer but no room to move and Shaun McGruddy heading to Albany midweek is always worth following. OXBRIDGE put on a galloping exhibition last start at Mt Barker. Found the front under Tayla Childs and simply ran them ragged. Won the race by just over 5L and the overall race time supported that margin in a run ~4.5L faster than 58+ average. STAR SOPRANO has been there abouts all season and drops a stack of weight with the Mahony claim. LOKI is hit and miss. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – CATCH THESE HANDS WIN RACE 4 MINE HOST was very popular in betting at his return from a spell. Finished a narrow second to Star In Time and had to work through a fair amount of traffic to get himself into the clear. Should only improve on the run and McGruddy riding in Albany means he’ll be very popular in betting again. Last 90 days Shaun McGruddy has had 12 rides in Albany for 5 winners at 42% Strike Rate and 38% POT. SNIPPAGENT went close again last week and on the backup he’ll be there abouts. ARAMAT is honest and consistent but just lacks a killer blow. ROHZUCKER returns to the races and has no weight with the engagement of ZJP. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – MINE HOST WIN RACE 5 WEDNESDAY is probably on her limit at 1230m but she’s in great form. Raced 5 days ago at Ascot in a 60+ Graduation 1000 when only 2L off Supersession, Thomas Magnum and Mantelli. Prior to that in a 66+ finished third behind Dream To Me and Sockoff. She’s really suited to cutaway racing (as was the case three starts ago when winning at Belmont). SNEAKY FOX has been a model of consistency this entire preparation. Now having his 15th run of the campaign but shows no signs of training off. TREVELLO drops 5kg on his effort last Friday and can measure up at this level. SIR SNUGALOT kicks through to lead which is imperative for him. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – WEDNESDAY WIN RACE 6 CANDIJAY has been building to another win and this looks really suitable. Third behind Rocapozzene and God’s Moment, third behind God’s Moment (won again last Friday) and Star Soprano and now finds a very weak C2 1500. This race has no speed what so ever, to the point where Jade McNaught could probably even roll to the top if that’s what they wanted to do. Regardless she should be in a commanding position and takes beating. STAR IN TIME has only had three runs for Bec Wallrodt and they’ve all been excellent. MISSALLURE ran some cheeky races at prices earlier in the season. 40 days between runs and the wide gate don’t help. HAS NO FEAR an improver. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – CANDIJAY WIN RACE 7 EX SPORT GIRL looks like the horse (along with Catch These Hands) that has prompted Shaun McGruddy to head down to Albany on a Thursday. She’s only the winner of an Albany maiden but she looks to have plenty of upside. Strong recent trial behind To Rise Again and first-up last preparation she ran second to Upper Limits at 1100m at Northam, beating home Admiration Express. Looks an ideal starting point for her campaign. QUEEN TIFFANY is still working out when to accelerate. Seems to get headed in her races and then fights back. SQUILLIONARE is rarely far from the winner and with Jarrad Noske going on she’ll have supporters. SPEEDY PYE almost broke through last week. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – EX SPORT GIRL WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3 4,5,7 3,4,7 2,5,6 Market Market
