Scott Embry’s Sunday York Preview Posted on September 9, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CHOKSLAM was astutely found in betting last start when hitting the line particularly hard behind Great Fortune. That race was run 5.5L faster than average and should prove a strong form reference, especially for these country ratings races, over the coming weeks. For that reason it looks like Chokslam vs Lucky Heart on paper. The grey isn’t easy to catch but Jason Whiting rides the track perfectly. LUCKY HEART can be the beneficiary if the grey does a few things wrong in running. Sits over the speed and gives a big kick. SOUSANA is going better than numerical form suggests. MISSALFIE comes to hand quickly. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – CHOKSLAM WIN RACE 2 PRAECISIO was thrown in the deep end by Rusty Stewart on debut into a 3 year old 0MWLY. Sat in the box seat and wasn’t able to figure, but in a far, far stronger race than what she meets here. Finished 8L off them, however, those in front of her included Leniency, Aiyza, Fortune’s Luck, Bird’s The Word, Birthday Ballot and Cherry’s A Star. 54+ into a Maiden Handicap and gets her chance. PEACE INVENTOR trialled nicely on two occasions at Lark Hill. Forget she went around down the 1000m straight first-up. ALLABOUTTHECRAIC is a long time maiden but Ash Maley is producing a lot of first-up winners at the minute. DEE RODMAN has been going alright at Kal. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – PRAECISIO EACHWAY RACE 3 ANYOLDTIME was a really nice trial at Lark Hill when making solid ground under little riding at Lark Hill. Gained a start on Wednesday at Belmont, however, Bruce Watkins was quick to scratch to save for this maiden handicap. Think he’ll go well at his return. SHE’S A RULER was beaten a fair way at trials but looked to have plenty in hand. Should get a gun run from a favourable draw. GALAXY ACES hasn’t quite taken her trial form to the races but the jump and run style of York racing should suit. ZACASAURUS showed ability at trials when beating Saloon Bar. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – ANYOLDTIME WIN RACE 4 RARE CASE lead them up at her first outing for new connections when run down by Fly Away Home and George Gently. Should hold up as a form reference and she heads into a maiden handicap with only 57kg against a number of horses who have been long time maidens, and more importantly, are noted backmarkers. Settles on speed and should be there in the finish. QUIDS has always promised to win a maiden and ran well enough fresh. RAGING BEAUTY ran well last week but the barrier hurts. JIVE KING has always been respected in the market. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – RARE CASE WIN RACE 5 BIRD’S THE WORD is sensationally placed by a highly inform Ben & Dan Pearce yard. Beat home Brighid (second to Cywer subsequently) in a C1, finished last (but was wide throughout) behind subsequent 66+ winner Rejuva King in a 3 year old Plate and then was again wide throughout in a 3 year old 0MWLY behind Leniency and Aiyza. Senior rider on, back into a lowly 52+ and draws alongside the main danger. THE ANVIL goes particularly well at York and is very well suited in this 52+ grade. The claim of Taj Dyson keeps him at a winnable weight and the barrier shouldn’t be an issue as he tends to get back regardless. SHOCK RESULT is stretched at 1200m but is well placed. LOOKS LIKE MAGIC maps well. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – BIRD’S THE WORD WIN RACE 6 MARINSKY BALLET won on debut and then went straight into a hot 3 year old 0MWLY behind The Velvet Queen, Border Force, Probity, Seduce Me and Ponyo. Trials leading into her return to racing have only been fair but this is a great starting point in a 46+. Likely to sit off them as Smiling Girl and Cosmopolitan Girl turn it on. WEAPON OF CHOICE may need further, however, the speed on helps. COSMOPOLITAN GIRL would be hard to beat if Smiling Girl doesn’t in fact back-up from Wednesday. HORIZON is out of form but this is a huge drop in grade. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – MARINSKY BALLET WIN RACE 7 PLAYING UP was a very nice trial when beating Capricorn Man and after the claim for Luke Campbell she’s in with a winnable weight. May be suited over further but thinking with clear galloping room late that she’ll be finishing off hard and with the weight query on the main danger she gets the nod. CARABINIER is so well placed into a 46+. He is a three time winner at York, including in this grade and in a 52+. Hard to beat if he can carry the weight. FOR OUR NIC an improver and can sit up over the speed. SOOTIE BOY goes round big prices but has run some cheeky races. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – PLAYING UP WIN RACE 8 SAVING MEMPHIS was super last start in a high rating race behind Romancing The Rock. Thinking that they might be able to swoop over these considering the speed is likely to come from a few various points in the map and a three deep train might build. Nice race for him. FIRE ANT is a serious favourite of the market. Hasn’t won for over 1550 days and yet each and every time she steps out the punters launch into her. KALAKAUA has gone well on the dirt. LADY OF BABYLON will need to get out and moving from an inside draw. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – SAVING MEMPHIS WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,4,7 2,5,7 1,8 2,3,4,6 Market Market
