Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on July 30, 2021July 30, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PLAYING ZEUS won back to back races at Port Hedland when finding the front and rolling from the 600 onwards. Won a 56+ by a length in sizzling time and then reproduced when winning another 56+ by 7L again in remarkable time. Was solid three starts ago when beaten by subsequent winners In The Bag and Galiba and then has found the 1800m of the Pinbara Cup and 2050m of the Ladies Day Cup too far. Drops back in grade, back in distance and looks very hard to run down. WELD has been a touch frustrating to follow. Clearly has the ability to win and in replay arguably should have won last start after being eased at the 500 and losing crucial momentum. CAPE SOUNION will be there a long way. FLIRTY FRIARS similarly will be up for the grind. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – PLAYING ZEUS WIN RACE 2 PATY’S FORCAST is about the only Brian Rogers galloper who hasn’t won a race in the NW this season. Thinking this is a wonderful opportunity for her to correct that statistic as she drops from 1600 back to 1300, 54+ back into a 50+ and down to the 55.5kg minimum. If Andrew Castle can keep her out of trouble she’ll be there abouts. MISS CIRCLEWORK is well suited to racing in this grade. Form around Sixpence Spent has been strong all season. Loves Port Hedland. MAJOR LEAGUE and MISSTINGUETTE are both going well and can be competitive in an even race. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – PATY’S FORCAST WIN RACE 3 BITOVEMU had been building to the last start win and can go on with it now. Has seemingly been improving in the dirt surfaces and getting used to the kickback. Stays in the same grade again, drawn an ideal gate and Tash Faithful is having a super season in the saddle. See no reason why the grey can’t win again. DEMERITISE got awfully close to her two starts ago and gets a half kilo weight swing and Col Haddon in her favour. Going well. MISS HARLEY QUINN is always there abouts in these types of races and Jess Gray’s claim is gold. FEMME PUISSANTE finds it hard to win but is always looming. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BITOVEMU WIN RACE 4 SHIRL’S DREAM was an amazing first-up winner at Port Hedland when Jess Gray allowed him to run and he absolutely bolted in by 5L. Two of his next three races have been in 56+ grade and now he again finds himself back into a C1. Drawn the inside, straight to the front and will give backers a sighter. DO YOUR BEST brings the Broome form which is usually stronger than what the Port Hedland horses have to their name. Likely to sit over the top of the speed and be the testing material. SUNDAY AT SIX was a plunge winner first start for Darryn Pateman. Honest efforts since. MISS BRIGHTON gets the run she needs to figure late. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHIRL’S DREAM WIN RACE 5 SHACKLETON is going extremely well and deserves to pick up one of these feature sprint races late in the NW season. Second in the Derby Sprint to speedy stablemate King of Planets, second to Counter Drive in the Roebourne Sprint and now gets another big chance in the Port Hedland ‘Richardson Family Sprint’. Looked the winner throughout running last start but couldn’t quite reel in Counter Drive. Gets important weight swing here and can turn the tables. COUNTER DRIVE was the first leg of a feature race double for Nat Burke and #Kathy. Team is flying and again looks the testing material. SIXPENCE SPENT has finished in the top two his last 5 and can win this without surprising. FRIAR’S GIFT is another Rogers horse who has had a super preparation. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – SHACKLETON WIN RACE 6 STAADEN looks to have found his Cup and Shaun McGruddy heads up to Port Hedland to take the ride. Second to Unbreakable in a 58+ at Broome, third behind Rayarnie when sitting on top of the speed in a 64+ at Broome and then was narrowly run down in the Derby Cup. Senior rider on, comes out running to find a position over the speed and looks hard to beat in a cracking edition of the Port Hedland Cup. WAR KSAR meets a lot of key rivals better at the weights in the 70+ conditions and drops from 60kg to 58.5kg from the Roebourne Cup to the Port Hedland Cup. Never really got the run he needed in that race either. SCENIC LORD is the kind of horse who can always surprise them and did exactly that when dominating in the Roebourne Cup. BIG CAROLINE will need to be enormous to win with 64kg but she is going well. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – STAADEN WIN RACE 7 MONASH was never competitive last start at Broome when awkwardly away and trailing them around throughout to be beaten out of sight. Drops back to a more suitable 1400m, reunites with Jess Gray, draws inside and can kick through to hold a prominent position in running. Expecing him to bounce back. AMBER HIGHWAY abandons the Cup preparation and drops back in distane sharply to 1400m. Last time he was at this track/trip he won by 7.5L. TIME AND TRUTH is knocking on the door and drawn ideally. ANVIL GREEN turned back the clock last start and is a live chance again on his 11th birthday. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – MONASH EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,4 2,3,4,6 2,3,4 1,3,4,6 Market Market
