Becalotti broke them open and won by a space and so the beaten margin is exaggerated on paper. He was also held up behind tiring horses and only got out late. Celebrity Icon has already won out of that event and he should position up ideally just behind the speed. YELLOW SUBMARINE was a very impressive trial over 1000m at Belmont leading into his debut behind Missile Storm (who himself is an emerging 3 year old). Think he’ll be better suited here at 1500m and given the fact they were able to make ground in the three deep line on Thursday it brings him right into the mix. RUBIROCK showed a glimpse last start. PLAINLY SPOKEN has run well for Pike previously. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – PROPORTRAIT WIN RACE 2 LADY CABERNET has shown a bit at trials over two preparations. Ran second behind Crystal’s Dream down the back straight at Lark Hill in October and then recently ran second to impressive debut winner Shaka Zulu over 950 at Lark Hill. Seems to travel really strongly (trials and will race in ear muffs) and looks to have a motor. Scarpside seems to suit those who travel well in the run and this looks winnable on debut. TREASURED QUEEN is on debut for the Peters Investments operation and her recent trial behind Mystic Jane was encouraging. Worth noting however that Pike rode in both and has elected to ride DEBONNAIRE who seems to have come back well after his initial preparation. BIRTHDAY BALLOT would be hard to beat if reproducing her first-up run. Numbers: 11 – 12 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – LADY CABERNET WIN RACE 3 PRIVATE SAPLING has been good in two runs to date. Missed the kick on debut before charging forward to take it up and was only beaten 3L Diamond Rocks and Born and Bread, then sat wide throughout from a horror draw at Belmont when fighting on bravely to finish 3L off Missile Storm. If Yellow Submarine goes well in R1 that form will look even stronger and thinking that he can cross to lead these and takes running down. BORN AND BREAD has beaten him home in both of those races and she’s clearly knocking on the door. The wide draw makes things hard for her. THE COLLECTOR can park up leader’s back and enjoy a soft run. MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE has impressed at each of three trials. Looks a real trier. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – PRIVATE SAPLING WIN RACE 4 HOT RHUMBA finished second to Diamond Scene over 1500m at Pinjarra Scarpside in January and then most recently finished second to Tenacious Reward again over 1500m. Will need to run out an 1800m here but she’s got tactical speed and Shaun McGruddy can either kick through to lead or take cover close handy to the speed. Looks a race without any stand outs and probably should be eachway the field. BIG BELL and WHAITIRI are both hitting the line really well but both can be hit and miss. Hard to follow either with great confidence. PRIDE OF TUSCANY leaves SJ Wolfe Racing and joins Tom Pike. At least he’ll see out the trip. Numbers: 11 – 10 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – HOT RHUMBA EACHWAY RACE 5 MACK MACK hasn’t had much go his way in two runs back this campaign. Trialled super behind Trevern leading into his return where he was $14 into $6 when missing the kick, being held up on straightening and savaging the line in some really slick closing sections. Second up he sat leader’s back and never got a crack at them. Think he’s an ideal Scarpside horse and willing to go one more time. MISSILE STORM and NOTEWORTHY are both coming out of last start maiden wins. Expecting the form through both to hold up and they can measure up in C3 company. WHAT ABOUT MOI hit the line full of running at his return. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – MACK MACK WIN RACE 6 SAVANIK will need them to be able to make ground to be a winning chance, however, if it’s anything like Thursday and they can settle midfield with cover and peel off three and four deep to make their runs then she’s a live chance eachway. Her fresh run last preparation behind All The King’s Men in a 66+ at 1200m was excellent and her trial without shades was strong. BORN TO TALK is a model of consistency. He has finished in the money at 7 of 9 this preparation and from the barrier you’d be brave to suggest he won’t be filling a top 3 position again here. Hard to get past. HONEY DEW hasn’t had a lot of luck go her way in terms of race shape. She can easily match motors with Savanik from the rear. Alternatively she has the speed to get across. DIVINE PAIR is honest. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – SAVANIK WIN RACE 7 CASINO SEVENTEEN was $2.30 into $1.65 in the Bunbury Cup. He was pulling aggressively down the back straight in a slowly run race when rider Chris Parnham decided to pull the trigger at the 1000 and let him stride forward to the breeze. Once he got there, he wanted to go on with it and he had to go for home a long, long way out. Big effort to only be beaten three-quarters of a length. Interesting to see if he settles for Pike. NO APOLOGY has a set of bar plates going on mid-preparation which is never ideal but he’s banking cheque after cheque for his new connections and doesn’t know how to run a bad race. GENERAL GRANT improved in the Bunbury Cup. BLACK SHADOW was lucky to stay on his feet in the same race. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – CASINO SEVENTEEN WIN RACE 8 BUCKEYE BULLET had his first start for new trainer Steph Bakranich at Ascot when seriously stiff not to win. His trial behind stablemate Ghobella was strong over the 1200m and he was ducking and weaving his way through heavy traffic when beaten half a head by Rusty Spirit. Drawn to get a gun run and think he can go one better here. SPECIAL SORT drops out of the JC Roberts into a C1. His fresh run in a C3 behind Guard The Safe was a ripper. BOY BLUE was set alight by Noske last start and seemed to relish being allowed to stride. LADY OF BABYLON has no weight on her back and can sustain a run. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – BUCKEYE BULLET WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,4,8 2,3,6 6 1,5,7,9 Market Market
