Scott Embry’s Sunday Northam Preview Posted on October 25, 2024October 25, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 JUST SAINT JAMES won on debut down the 1000m straight beating sharp sprinting type Pin Deep and then got into heavy traffic at his second start when popular in betting. His recent trial behind September Born and Wind and The Lion was excellent and in the small field he looks very hard to beat. Like the horse. THIS’LL SHOW YA is really well placed by Mitchell Pateman and no doubt she’ll be looking to jump and run. Can she hold out Shasfa early? SURFSIDE SESSION made an impression on debut and looks a nice type. CLASSIC RULER is a work in progress. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – JUST SAINT JAMES WIN RACE 2 RIPPER FAROOQ comes through the highest rating Northam maiden of the season to date (and previous seasons too!) so expect that he will be extremely popular all the way through betting. Could be an ‘early price is best price’ type scenario and he should be given every chance. They flew early and middle stages of that race and he was the last man standing of the on-speed brigade. GOD’LL GETYA went around in the Max Simmonds Stakes at his first-up run and will no doubt find this easier. PRECIOUS GOD covered the ground well when pulling clear in her recent trial. SANSANEE is quick. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 12 – 4 Suggested Bet – RIPPER FAROOQ WIN RACE 3 PATRON EXPRESS comes through the winner producing Yorga Pride race on debut. We’ve already seen Catch Carter, Six Shooter and Rally The Troops win from that event in the last 18 days as well as The Agency and Heavy Metal plunged and running well. It’s the obvious form reference. SMART ENERGY drew wide on debut and couldn’t quite sustain the run. Drawn far better here. TALKAWAY can go back to racing on speed from the better barrier and is clear improver. DECISION MAKER nearly won a 2 year old midweek event on debut at 40-1 and is drawn soft for his return. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – ZING TO WIN TO WIN RACE 4 SUMMER’S LEGACY has barrier 1, 54kg, Pike and trialled like a filly who would get ground. This is not a deep race and there are a few questionable form references through her opposition and the way that the 3 year olds are beating up on the older horses at the minute suggests that she’ll be hard to hold out. NOBLE REIGN ran a belter first-up at $26 and while Petite Vitesse didn’t exactly frank the form on Wednesday in a moderate C1 1600 the effort on face value was very encouraging. INVASORE went around 100-1 but was only beaten 2L behind The Merryman first-up and that horse nearly won a 3 year old 1400 at Ascot last weekend. RIBELLATO has trialled well for his first start for Simon Barrass. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SUMMER’S LEGACY WIN RACE 5 SAINTY CULLITY put the writing on the wall in a 3 year old Plate at Ascot and then went to Bunbury on a day where it was impossible to make any ground whatsoever. He still found the line late and on a more even Northam playing field he looks the one to beat. KING MAHUTA was held up at a crucial stage in the winner producing Olympic Park race (Rosie Can Run / True Player) and then was hitting the line powerfully late in his second-up assignment. Ready for 1600. LIEN HYPHEN has come back in career best form and can hold a position from the draw. LETHAL WEAPON is building. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – SAINTY CULLITY WIN RACE 6 TON OF GRUNT resumed at the Bunbury meeting where nearly every leader on the program came out victorious. He was one of the very few to make any discernible ground on the program and it was over an unsuitable 1200m and behind a nice horse in Richanco. Back in grade, out in distance, drawn well – keen. FIVE DOWN won at that program and seemed to thrive on a high speed, high pressure race shape. Can lead this and be allowed to roll. IDYLLIC RULER trialled super behind Siren Assault. KELORA is trying hard. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – TON OF GRUNT WIN RACE 7 SECRET IDENTITY looked home last start until he was swamped late by Sketta. Always a query when the winner SPs nearly 100-1 but he had been building towards a run like that and looks ready to win a race this preparation. OUTSPOKEN LAD went well fresh over 1200m and then did plenty of work second-up before fading out late. Senior rider on catches the attention. MEGAMI has a set of blinkers going on and Shaun O’Donnell could be the right hoop for an enigmatic mare like her. LONG GENES is better than what he produced at his WA debut. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – SECRET IDENTITY WIN RACE 8 BUCKET’S RIDGE and IN GOOD ORDER are the new kids on the block in this grade and the progressive 4 year olds who are taking on older horses. Think they’ve both got a lot of upside and the 2024 WATC Derby form has proven elite over the last 3 – 4 months. He risks 16 points if coming out victorious but going to side up with IN GOOD ORDER who just looks like he belongs at Listed/Group Level with his ability to wind up through his gears from the 600. BUCKET’S RIDGE has no doubt been aimed up at the Northam Cup / Luckygray Stakes / Perth Cup program. Big danger. SENTIMENTAL HERO was a massive run in the Hannans when unable to build momentum. DEMOLISH always spikes second-up. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 14 – 8 Suggested Bet – IN GOOD ORDER WIN RACE 9 MISS ROCKJOY will find this much easier than the 72+ 1200 behind Rope Them In and Toropa and the 60+ Graduation behind Count The Sessions that she has contested so far this campaign. Massive drop in grade and a mare who seems to need a few runs to reach her best form. Timing could be right here. AYUMI has won her last two and the form out of her C1 win is holding up with both Audio Boy and The Rooster both winning their next outings when being well found in betting. MISS WALL STREET got herself out of a tough spot last start to win. SIMPLY THINKIN’ will appreciate the 2.5kg off her back. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – MISS ROCKJOY EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2 1,2,3,5,7,8,9 7,10,14 1,2,3,4 Market Market
