Scott Embry’s Sunday Northam Preview Posted on October 22, 2021October 23, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DESERT VIXEN looks a special on paper. 99% likely that the price won’t be flash but a man can always dream. Second on debut to Flying Missile in a 2 year old SWP and the first-up run in the 3 year old Classic was a belter when finishing off as well as anything from a long way off them. Blinkers on, back to a maiden, should be winning. Eyes peeled for 1pm Saturday. HERE’S DREAMING didn’t really fire as expected on Hannans Handicap day. Showed ability on debut when doing a bit wrong and still finishing off hard. WITHOUT REG has been given 38 days since a debut flop. The trial beforehand was excellent. DELTA ANNE needs some luck. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – DESERT VIXEN WIN RACE 2 TALK IT UP had two runs in 3 days in Kalgoorlie over the round. Ran second on Hannans Day to Rebelzone and then finished second on Cup Day to Green and Shady. Both of those are better than your average maiden winner and with Pike taking over and a minor gear change made he looks the one to beat. BAYZEL is honest and consistent, just lacks a killer blow. SO BIRIKKINO was given every chance by Brown last start. Jump and run again. YUNA MAILMAN scratched from Geraldton to save for this. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – TALK IT UP WIN RACE 3 PICK AND PAY was only fair first-up when running fourth. Much better last start when looming into the race turning for home and just unable to match motors in the concluding stages with handy enough 3 year old Prince of Guelph. Should get every chance from the draw and in an open and even maiden looks a live chance. HEAR ME was a horror watch for poor LK Fernie and Andrew Inglis last start. Held up behind tiring horses going backwards at the 600 and never able to get a look at them. LUMINARIES looks like he will need 2000m plus to see the best of him. TOTAL LOCKDOWN comes from a reasonable form reference. Fine Romance is yet to break through but she looks a talent. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 14 – 9 Suggested Bet – PICK AND PAY WIN RACE 4 STAY SAFE and SUPERIORIZE both come from a very hot maiden form reference. It was expected to be strong from the overall race sections with the maiden run 3L faster than average but the race form has held up too. Champagne Dame a subsequent C3 winner, Advanced a subsequent maiden winner and even Mia Nobile bobbing up at 100-1 to run a ticky in town. With the barrier draw siding with STAY SAFE but expecting SUPERIORIZE to make real race of it. WARPIPES gets a soft run. TIGER MOVE one for novelty inclusion. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – STAY SAFE WIN RACE 5 MY SQUEEZE LOUISE brings real intrigue at her WA debut. Fresh at 1600m last preparation (off 7 weeks) in a BM64 lead them up and only finished third beaten 1.5L at Bendigo before heading to open class staying races at Flemington, Caulfield and then the SA Fillies Classic at Group 3 level. Peter Fernie gets them going fresh, she has tactical speed to take up a position over the tempo and should give a real sight in a C1. STELLAR VISTA is doing things wrong but continues to hit the line. Simon Miller puts his faith in stable apprentice Holly Watson to kick one home from last. AIRLIE QUEEN might be looking for this sort of trip at this stage of her career. ENGLISH HERITAGE caught the eye first-up. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – MY SQUEEZE LOUISE WIN RACE 6 GREEN AND SHADY won a Kalgoorlie maiden and then went into a 3 year old 0MWLY race with 59kg. Finished second to Buzzoom who backed off 3 days into a Saturday 1200m 3 year old Grad and beat Hardly Ever and Devoted. Super form for a C1 C&G race and with Pike sticking he’ll be the testing material. SUCCESS PLAY broke through last start. Had to work for the win but hopefully the penny has now dropped with him. Always looked above average. DOWNTOWN TWAIN really appreciated finding the front and rolling last start. Expecting similar tactics to be adopted with the apprentice on. ABOVE THE PEG might have to breeze outside him and work a bit harder than his maiden. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – GREEN AND SHADY WIN RACE 7 MARLIZE is a backmarker and by race 7 you’ll know your fate. I would suggest waiting to see how the track pattern emerges with the rail back to the true and a hot day forecast in the Avon Valley. If they can make ground then this is a mare who is flying at the minute. Love her race form, love the way she’s attacking the line, just needs a track which will allow horses with her type of pattern to be competitive. Wait and see job. SPILLINOVA on the other hand is a brilliantly placed resuming galloper. Hasn’t seen a race this weak in years and after the claim for Rosie Mahony is very well in. CONQUERED ZONE produces fresh every single preparation. Keep safe. NATIVE CHIMES is a hard mare to ride and a hard mare to catch. Enter William Pike. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MARLIZE EACHWAY RACE 8 TELLEM WE’RE COMIN was a mystery at Kalgoorlie. A 7 year old at start 30 and he bucks. Remarkable. Back to trials, back to the races and back to tackle another Northam Cup. Drops 1.5kg down to 57.5kg and if he can blend in midfield with cover, he’ll be letting down hard late. Looks a lovely race for him on paper and he will likely go round eachway with so many ‘market horses’ in the field. KAPTAIN KAOS needs to win a race like this to justify a tilt at the Railway Stakes for Michael Grantham. Highly promising and emerging 4 year old at his acid test. Race wasn’t run to suit him last start and still reeled off a quicker L200 than Kissonallforcheeks who is second favourite All-In for the Group 1 feature. THAT’S FUNNY AZ and LIVING THE DREAM can control the speed between them. Numbers: 3 – 11 – 13 – 8 Suggested Bet – TELLEM WE’RE COMIN EACHWAY RACE 9 INDIGO BLUE was placed to perfection last start by Adam Durrant. 66+ back to a 50+ and with all eyes glued firmly on a maiden filly in the race she went around at a remarkable quote. Went to the top and scored a fighting win. Holly Watson retains the ride and this doesn’t look much deeper. Great chance to go back to back and if it has been on pace for the program she’ll get shorter and shorter as betting goes on. ALL IN RED comes from a fruitful Kalgoorlie campaign. Didn’t pinch one but ran some really good races for Kylie Craig. CABLE GUY is pretty handy on his day. MISSALFIE can sprint well fresh. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – INDIGO BLUE WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,3,4,5 1,2,3,4 2,3,5,8,11,12,13 1 Market Market
