Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on October 17, 2025October 17, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LAVISH CHARM looks a $1.12/$1.14 pop? Two runs this prep for Peter Fernie: maiden win over 1200m by 4.4L at $1.24 and a C2 win over 1200m by 2L at $2.20. Stays in the same grade, drops half a kilo after the Holly Nottle claim, leads and stopped the clock 4.3L faster than average last time out. Looms as the shortest priced favourite of the season at the last meeting. CALL TIME caught the eye running on into fifth in that race, however, was still beaten 6L. THATSTHEWAYILIKEIT comes through that same event too and was beaten 10L. Lucy jumps on and hopefully she’ll be better second-up. BLITZEM BABE has had 12 starts this campaign without winning. Best efforts have been at 1100. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – LAVISH CHARM WIN RACE 2 PEARLY NUGGET is just riding a wave of success as the minute and is in arguably career best form. She has won four of her last five with the only defeat coming narrowly at the hands of Hezangelic. The last three wins have all been this track/distance and the last of them was off a 39 day freshen from the breeze. Up to 60kg against the open sprinters but it’s hard to ignore the way she’s going. SURE THING will make her work under the weight because he really only knows one way and that’s to run. This is clearly easier than the Ron Sayers he comes through. TREASURED QUEEN has been below what she produced in 2024 but is still a key player. PADDYS FLYIN’ is an interesting newcomer and should be a really handy Esperance horse for Fiona Scott. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – PEARLY NUGGET WIN RACE 3 JUST FAMOUS put the writing on the wall with back to back runner-up performances before looking a special over the traditional annual and didn’t let punters down with an effortless near 2.5L margin. The win was also against the pattern on a heavily leader dominated program. Emerging talent for the region. PLEASE MIZTER won back to back races in a C2 1400 and a 58+ 1600 before heading into the round and finishing 5L off them in a 1760. He’s now back to 1400m and reunites with Holly Nottle who rode him to those back to back victories. They can ride him aggressively and use the 3kg claim to advantage. SUNSHINE TAFE isn’t showing the turn of foot she had as a filly. COCOON BAY can sit leader’s back or hold out Please Mizter. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – JUST FAMOUS WIN RACE 4 PRINCE OF BONDI deserves to win one. Placed at four of his last five with the highlight being the runner-up performance in a Westspeed Platinum behind Saturday Sesh (goes around in the opener at Ascot on Saturday), however, there’s an obvious concern: back to 1200m. Fingers crossed he can overcome the hurdle and win one. BRING ME A FROTHY had four starts for Simon Miller and didn’t set the world on fire. He’s since been moved on and lands in Kalgoorlie for new trainer Helen Harding off a 73 day freshen. He’ll find this considerably easier but still gives the impression he’ll need 1400+. SLIPPERY FISH has improved with each trial. WHISKERS HARBOUR next best. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – PRINCE OF BONDI WIN RACE 5 TWIST OF GOLD was all the rage in the 4 horse opener on Hannans Day and was probably a good thing beat behind Pearly Nugget. Finished third of four but was held up the entire length of the home straight and looked to be bolting under Lucy Fiore. Drops back in grade and has the 3kg claim of Holly Nottle to offset the weight rise. Box seats on the back of Science Degree and if she gets out expect she’ll gun them down. Flying. SCIENCE DEGREE became increasingly popular in betting on the same program as it turned into a leader’s paradise and he duly saluted. Jump and run, perfect ride for a 3kg claimer. EEVALINA is deep into a campaign but continues to run consistent races. DREAMERS NEVER DIE has been a frustrating horse this prep. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – TWIST OF GOLD WIN RACE 6 WHATYOUTALKINBOUT went back on debut and never got into the contest. At his second career outing he was sent forward and never looked like being run down, beating home a handy maiden too in Without Remorse. Looked the type of animal who could make the step into C2 company and from the inside draw should be given every chance. JUST SUBLIME is another great ride for Holly Nottle (Jock Challenge punt?) after finishing third behind Lavish Charm on Hannans Day. Should only be fitter second-up and drops 1kg start to start. CHIPILLY looked like winning early in her WA career but now the jury is out. ELSUENO hated the dirt. Back to grass. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – WHATYOUTALKINBOUT WIN RACE 7 JAYASHREE has had two moderate runs in WA so far but gets out towards her preferred distance for the first time and the fact that Peter Fernie leaves the senior rider on rather than claiming could be telling. Won a Newcastle maiden (from the breeze) at 1600m and then three starts later found herself in an Adrian Knox Stakes at Group 3 Level over 2000. No stars her and she looks the big improver. MONTY ZOOMER is back from a Carnarvon preparation and has run well for new trainer Brock Lewthwaite at Toodyay and York on the grass. Best allowed to freewheel. AMERICAN THIGHS has to be a query at the trip but can roll forward. I NEVER DREAMED has shades off and comes back in distance. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – JAYASHREE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,8,9 1,3 1,2 1,2,3,4,5,6 Market Market
