Scott Embry’s Sunday Geraldton Preview Posted on April 5, 2024April 5, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SPEEDY NOVA simply found 1200m beyond her last start. Coming back to 1100m is in her favour, heading to Geraldton should be in her favour and on the fresh side she looks like putting herself in a commanding position over the top of the speed. POWERPOP was one the punters had a crack at on debut down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra. In the last 20 minutes of betting she was $18 into $6.50 before being beaten 4.5L at the hands of Pin Deep. Heads to a country maiden over 1100m and should go better. LET SPARKS FLY has finished in the money at three of four and while the 1100 is on the shorter side for her she’ll get a soft run. VIKING FOREVER has been better his last two. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – SPEEDY NOVA WIN RACE 2 PULL THE TRIGGER resumed in a 1400m 3 year old 0MWLY when beaten into second by Another Strike. Since then he’s gone to an 1800m maiden when held up the entire length of the home straight and then to a 2000m maiden where he didn’t look to run it out. Given 4 weeks between runs and comes back to 1400m and heads up to Geraldton. He should be very hard to beat in a race of this nature. AUSSIE EURO has finished third at three of her past five. Not far off. L’AMOUR ESPRIT put in her best run yet last start in the same race. STRUCK BY LUCK wasn’t too bad behind Stay Astern before heading to a C1 in town last start. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – PULL THE TRIGGER WIN RACE 3 BUTTERFLY ROCK won a 58+ 1400 only three starts back and since then has finished third behind Well Played and second behind that same galloper most recently. She’s in grand form, she’s dropping sharply in grade from 3x 58+ races back into a C2 and she’s tough. Can hold a spot from the inside and looks hard to beat here. KIRALUI didn’t seem to appreciate leading last start and faded late. Her trial beforehand from off speed was a ripper. THE COLLECTOR dropped back to 1100 last start and did catch the eye late. Shades and Troy Turner. JURUENA GOLD is not easy to catch. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – BUTTERFLY ROCK WIN RACE 4 DARK MIST and BAYHARA went to the line locked together last start and then the results past the post were reversed on protest. BAYHARA goes from a non-claiming Luke Campbell to Michael Poy and DARK MIST goes from Austin Galati to CJP. Both get an extra 200m and both have really turned a corner over the last couple of starts. Clearly not much between them! ROCKSTAR STATUS went to Pingrup last start after winning her third race of the preparation for new trainer/owner Kevin Mahoney. She’s well travelled and she’s well performed. MYSTIC LOVE hit the line well again last start. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: BAYHARA WIN RACE 5 PURE CHINO is a lightly raced mare who has won two from three this time in. Racing like she’ll enjoy the 1900m and in an evenly graded affair with no standouts she gets a great chance to win again. Loved her last 200 chasing down I’m On. DECORATION went to the Listed Melvista Stakes over 2200m on Good Friday and was only beaten 7L. That’s realistically not bad form at all for a 50+ 1900 at Geraldton considering the rest of that field likely progress to next weekend’s WATC Derby. SET THE SCENE did it tough last start, prior runs were all sound. PILOTE next best. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – PURE CHINO WIN RACE 6 DEFENDING looks really well placed by Team Pearce here. Only three starts back he placed in a 72+ at Ascot behind Ice Pick Nick and beat home Live To Tell. Drawn to get a gun run, drops 2.5kg on another honest effort last start and should get every chance. DREAM TO ME was below her best in the Batavia. Glen Cortes throws a set of blinkers on his star mare and she’s won with 59kg previously. ARABIAN RICHES has had a great preparation and is still showing wonderful speed. Lead for a long way in the Batavia at odds. BOMBAY STYLE seems to go better when drawn wide. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – DEFENDING WIN RACE 7 BLEECKER STREET beat Budgerigar three back (winner of the Esperance Sprint) and then last start finished third beaten under half a length by progressive mare Think Of God in a 60+ Graduation 1200 at Ascot on a Saturday. Looks to enjoy a gun run from barrier 3, has no trouble carrying weight (won by 2.5L with 59.5kg first-up) and CJP likely opted to ride him over Shaka Zulu. Ticks lots of boxes. MADAME MAGIC raced in a 66+ 1400 on the same day at Ascot and found the line strongly yet again. She’ll just need conditions to suit. SHAKA ZULU was back to near his best last start and Defending could frank that form in Race 6. SORAIS is flying. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – BLEECKER STREET WIN RACE 8 MANAVENDRA won the Esperance Cup and was only run down late in the Albany Cup after sitting up on speed. Looks to be a better chaser and a few of the visiting horses are drawn wide and likely to make their runs together (Manavendra/Toni’s Spirit/Beats Of War). Open and even Cup but think he’s capable of winding up over them here. TONI’S SPIRIT was the disappointment of the Albany Cup. 7 days later she gets a chance at redemption and no doubt from the wider draw they’ll go back to riding her in her usual get back – run on pattern. BEATS OF WAR was scratched from the Albany Cup with a hoof abscess. He’s a big chance if he’s still at his peak. WHAT A PRINCE leads and kicks hard on straightening. Ripper animal. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – MANAVENDRA WIN RACE 9 MAGNIFICENT CARAT has finished second to Golden Fighter (since won in town) and most recently second to Tycoon Demon who has made his way from maiden to 58+ company this campaign. ZJP is riding with confidence and the mare should get the right run from a favourable alley in a race where they’ll roll along. IDENTIFIER loomed large last start but couldn’t quite go on with it. CHARLIE JANE also comes back to 1200m and can ride the speed. PEPPI GROVE was a good run in replay last start. Never really got clear until the race was over. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 10 – 14 Suggested Bet – MAGNIFICENT CARAT WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,3,5 1,2,3 2,3,4,5,12 1,3,9,10,11,14 Market Market
