Scott Embry’s Sunday Geraldton Preview Posted on January 22, 2021January 22, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 KALAKAUA was disappointing last start when sitting outside of King Cruzer and beaten off 5.7L into third. The previous start when ridden by Troy Turner was much better, getting with three quarters of a length of highly promising mare La Morne. Another weak maiden and another wonderful chance. MELWOOD COAST didn’t fire a shot down the straight two starts ago and wasn’t actually that bad last start being Fiery Bay which is a maiden form line that will get a lot of attention over the next 72 hours in the country areas. CHRISELLE isn’t going that bad and this is a weak contest. BLACK MONEY needs to improve but could with shades. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – KALAKAUA WIN RACE 2 ABBOU is no star but should be going very close to getting the job done in this 1400m Geraldton maiden. Resumed at 1300m when getting within 3.5L of Prize Pursuit, Oceanzara, Reliable Star, Guarded and Catchya Catchya after tramping three deep the trip. Last start looked to be run off his legs but fought on alright. Blinkers on, weaker race, gets his chance. KIRIGAMI brings metro and provincial maiden form to this race. Gets weight relief but Chris Parnham has been giving him every mortal hope from perfect draws. STELLA FAIR went under as a short priced favourite at this track first-up. RUNBABE certainly hasn’t gone as well lately as she did fresh. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – ABBOU WIN RACE 3 EBONYSON flew across from a wide alley at the trials to cross and lead. Looked a sitting duck to be run down but fought on well and looked to have some ability. Nicely bred and with only 53.5kg on his back he gives Spud Galati a great opportunity to start riding a few winners for new boss Adam Durrant. CARELESSLY trialled the same day and was an equally as impressive trial. Draws a wide gate but senior rider Joey Azzopardi should be able to get her across. REBEL TAIL has some really nice 2 year old form and might sneak under the guard. SHECKY RED ran out of his skin first start for Geoff Tiver. Numbers: 5 – 14 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – EBONYSON WIN RACE 4 CASA ROSADA and TRADE THUNDER look to hold a mortgage over this staying event. Siding with CASA ROSADA who was a strong C1 winner three starts ago at 2000 over Rodomonte and Our D’Amour. Then ran second to Quqba Ted in town and beat home in form staying mare Secret Pearl. At his next start he again ran into Ouqba Ted and subsequent Saturday winner Winifer when sitting close handy to a solid tempo throughout. Looks very well placed. TRADE THUNDER did a mountain of work last start when attacking the leader in the Walkaway Cup from the 1200. A STEAMY AFFAIR and LEXDEN GAMBLER can fight out minors. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – CASA ROSADA WIN RACE 5 JEVELLATION has had one start in Geraldton and got the cash. Only start number 12 for this mare but she finds yet another home (Stable number 4?). Three starts ago in a C1 at Belmont she finished within 2L of Rewrite the Stars and Sweet Strawberry. Anything like that kind of effort sees her go close. SNIPILLICIOUS should be able to find the front from the ideal gate and takes real running down. PICTURE SHOW ran well at her return to the races. FOXHOOD finds a new home and did run some really consistent races at Belmont over winter. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – JEVELATION WIN RACE 6 SAKARYA has been a great pick up for Gordon Spowart. Third behind Invictus Domini, winner at 1925 in a 64+, brave third in the Walkaway Cup at 2100 and last start sat wide the trip when doing a power of work and was entitled to be deadheating with the ambulance. Troy Turner returns to the saddle, drops back to 1600m and should lead or box seat and prove very hard to beat. MODERATOR brings metro form and his first-up effort was strong behind Chief Archer and Tradensia. SADLERS HILLS looked to be building before a couple of moderate efforts. DIAMOND TONIQUE is well suited in this grade. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – SAKARYA WIN RACE 7 ZIERA was plunged first-up when running a fast finishing second to Family Discussion. Again drew wide last start and went round favourite when beaten by Rivarola who looks a big winning chance again later in the mammoth Sunday program. Finally draws a gate, senior rider back on, ticks all the boxes. HITCHINRAIL won well last start and you’ll get a guide to the strength of the form through Springsure Lad earlier in the day. DELAGO DE HERO and ALL IN RED took their maiden wins to C1 and C2 company last start. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – ZIERA WIN RACE 8 RIVAROLA has been a great pick up for Sean Rains. He seems to find these older tried horses with East Coast form and bring them over to WA with great success and Rivarola is yet another example. Five starts ago Gero for 2 wins, 2 minors and a fifth when stretching to a mile behind Invictus Domini. Looks to get another great chance from the draw. ALL THE JULZ finds a tougher race but did win well last start. HE’S ALL MIGHTY carried the grandstand to victory at Gero two starts ago. Big chance in this. DANEHILL MATILDA is rarely seen in this grade and very well placed by Tony Scally. Numbers: 8 – 11 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – RIVAROLA WIN RACE 9 RIVER DANCE returns to his hometown where he has never missed the top two in 7 starts. He has dropped 10 ratings points since November 2019 from a career high of m94 to m84 and gets in with a winnable 60kg. Expecting them to fly in the Batavia and with an ounce of luck Peter Hall will get him in just behind the speed if he comes out underneath Kenyluck. From the first half of the field he’s a great chance in the Batavia for a bunch of rowdy local connections. DIABLERIE ran out of his skin last week in the Mt Barker sprint (87+) and was stiff in the Fitzpatrick. MAJINIKA missed the kick last week at Ascot. Wouldn’t want to do that again! ANGRY ANNIE is a light weight chance who gets in perfectly at the weights. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – RIVER DANCE EACHWAY RACE 10 SO SWAY is lightly raced and always well placed by the astute Tiarnna Robertson stable. Was given a peach by Pike first-up in a C1 and then ran really well from a sticky gate in a C3 last start behind Dani Bella and Interstate who have each won races since. Draws perfectly, Pateman picks up the ride and the Provincial Prince should get punters home in the last. JUPITER RISING is well suited back into this grade. Can’t be discounted. DIVIDE THE SEA is racing below his best and might be searching for further. BAY PUBLISHER an improver at odds. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – SO SWAY WIN Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 2,5,6 1,3,8,11 2,3,4,5,6,8 6 Market Market
