Scott Embry’s Sunday Bunbury Preview

RACE 1

BONDI EXPRESS brings alternate form and that could well be a good thing. In recent weeks we’ve seen the Declared Innocent maiden (2200), the Buster Biff maiden (1677) and then Whiskers Harbour maiden (1800) and thought that they were incredibly weak going into the events. So, (maybe) BONDI EXPRESS coming through the Southern Firetail maiden bringing alternate form could be the way to go. Not a race many will have any confidence in. SUNDAY MASS is out in distance and gets the services of Pike. When in doubt many just back the Wizard in these staying maidens. SUPAROO backs up off 4 days after being $41 into $12 on Wednesday. DANEA ROCK has finished a well beaten third in each of her last two runs and is extremely one paced.

Numbers: 3 – 9 – 4 – 5

Suggested Bet – BONDI EXPRESS WIN

RACE 2

CALL ME FROSTY ran third to Major Flirt in a $125,000 race on Westspeed Platinum Day, ran third to She’s Hot and Bosun in a Pinjarra maiden and then went around favourite last weekend in a 3 year old Plate at Ascot when second to Watto’s Mark who heads straight to a Breeders Classic. Looks the right race for him to lead, control and get the job done. PERFECTLY PROPER ran around in a Karrakatta Plate and was beaten less than 3L in both that event and the Group 3 WA Sires at her next outing. She’s had a few set backs but is a pretty sharp filly at her best. Shouldn’t be a maiden long. PLAYING FREE was thrown in the deep end fresh into a 3 year old Plate. Much better suited back into a maiden. SEARCHIN’ TIMES a watch at her Summer Dickson debut. Always trialled up well.

Numbers: 3 – 8 – 4 – 9

Suggested Bet – CALL ME FROSTY WIN

RACE 3

LUNA ASCENDING continues to run well at eachway prices. The first-up run at 60-1 behind now C1 winner Elvira Star was super, the second-up run behind Bulletin Beau was outstanding from a mile back and then again last time out was solid into fourth behind Slick who has now won a C1 at Ascot. All the form holds up but she just can’t draw a barrier to save herself. Hopefully they’re making ground and she can get one on the board. LA NOCCIOLA ran really well behind Autumn Gem and then was held up the entire here 6 days ago. Forgive, forget and follow into this. DANCING SPIRIT was sent out $4.40 off the back of an Albany maiden defeat most recently and was soundly beaten a 3.6L margin. Drawn soft, Pike sticks, she’ll again be on the short side? WAHOOCHINO was kept safe on debut and ran okay.

Numbers: 11 – 15 – 13 – 8

Suggested Bet – LUNA ASCENDING WIN

RACE 4

WAYNE THE PAIN is only coming out of a 46+ but the winner of that race Chino La Diva is a lower grade Saturday type of mare at her best and he was the only horse to make any ground from the rear of the field. Misty Bazeley’s team is ticking along well and he has won two of his three career races second-up. This is really winnable for him and there’s a few queries on the other fancies. SHAMILIAN MISS won a pretty thin C3 1600 at Pinjarra on 21 December and then battled away alright behind Forever Dreaming when given every chance. She now has to lump 60kg from the outside gate, makes things tough? SPACE ACE has made an encouraging start to his WA career but is 45 days between runs? MILLY’S CLEVER TOO is a hard mare to catch but as she showed last start when she’s on song she can sustain a run from the back.

Numbers: 10 – 1 – 2 – 6

Suggested Bet – WAYNE THE PAIN WIN

RACE 5

GOD’S CROSS really appreciated the Pinjarra Scarpside circuit to get into his work and give him an opportunity to balance up and attack the line. Bruce Watkins has a few nice types in his yard at the minute with this son of Playing God alongside stablemates Galway Shawl and Rolling Ruler, he looks in for a big few months as a trainer. With his main rivals drawn awkwardly it looks a great chance for him to go back to back. HUBBLES DRAGON was sent out at $1.30 first-up and bolted in from the breeze. The horse he beat home franked the form by winning at his next outing (Barney Rommel) and Dan Morton had this horse nominated for three/four different races across the weekend and they’ve pulled the trigger here. BULLETIN BEAU is a last start winner who has always promised to go maiden – C1 – C3 with ease. I’M GENEVIEVE finds this easier than her 3 year old Plate on resuming.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 11

Suggested Bet – GOD’S CROSS WIN

RACE 6

TALKANCO and PLAYIN’ IT SWEET are clearly the two horses best suited under the SWP conditions of the race. Talkanco (m86) carries 57kg, while Playin’ It Sweet (m81) carries 55kg and going off their clash in the Burgess Queen Stakes where Playin’ It Sweet just held off Talkanco late it looks a great chance for her to bounce back and win another Black Type feature. Her two runs in this prep have been good, without being great, but now she gets a senior rider back and you must forgive last start where she was afforded no favours. TALKANCO is a Gimcrack winner, a Karrakatta Plate winner and a Max Simmonds Classic winner. She’s a ripper filly and has to be respected. WATTO’S MARK is the new kid on the block but the fillies have a huge weight advantage on him. EXCESS BAGGAGE trialled up super.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 7

Suggested Bet – PLAYIN’IT SWEET WIN

RACE 7

HISTORY WON’T CARE was a late scratching at an Ascot meeting a few weeks ago after a floating mishap enroute. He was very popular in betting that day and there were plenty of punters on course who were spruiking him. He did win a Westspeed 1200 fresh last preparation and without the trial he should be able to hold a position. PRAWNS ELEVEN left WA to head to Hong Kong ~700 days ago after his last victory and battled away into the minor money a few times in Ratings80/85 company at Happy Valley. He has returned to Brock Lewthwaite and his recent trial suggests he’s ready to win fresh. Great to have him back in the Country. HEY PINO drops out of a 66+ into a far more suitable race and has been in form all prep. Big respect. LENIENCY is kept fresh a month between runs and getting closer.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1

Suggested Bet – HISTORY WON’T CARE WIN
