Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on March 23, 2023March 24, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FILTHY HABITS raced over 1400m twice last preparation, finishing fourth behind George Gently, Secret Identity and Starchienne after leading and then finishing third behind Melvista Stakes pair Demolish and Playhouse Patron. First-up, no trial, straight to the top and that’s where the majority of winners come from on opening day at Kalgoorlie. DRAGONFLIES has race fitness on his side and it would be great to see him finally break through. He’s now an 8 year old maiden at start 19 but he’s a model of consistency. PECOS ran a ripper on Esperance Cup Day. Won’t be a maiden long. ONEMOREFORLEO ran well fresh. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – FILTHY HABITS WIN RACE 2 DUNBAR has been labelled a nonny over the years and hasn’t won a race since he was a 2 year old back in 2020 when he went two from two undefeated and beat Chantorque. Last preparation he resumed first-up, no trial off 98 days when finishing second, beaten a nose in a Saturday 60+ Graduation at Belmont Park. Goes well fresh, has raced in better quality of races than this for the majority of his life and gets his chance in Kalgoorlie. Big day on paper for Gaerth & Fernie. MAGNIFORCE is always hard to run down when he jumps cleanly, finds the fence and finds a rhythm. Going well enough in Esperance. LEADING MAN has had a wonderful Esperance season and is rock hard fit. WESTERNIZE has been racing just as well as Magniforce or Leading Man. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – DUNBAR WIN RACE 3 TIMELY ADVICE has shown ability at trials. She’s got no weight on her back after the Cassey Martinan claim, she’s got the tactical speed to overcome a tricky barrier and her form around Exceltrain, Givemeonereason, Bonjoy and City Angel reads up well for a country maiden. PIQUANCY is a newcomer to Western Australia and joins the stables of Justin A. Robins. As he showed last season with Pedal Power he can find a tried horse and improve them lengths. She trialled well at Esperance. JUST GOT PAID and EDWARDS CHOICE are both capable of showing speed and can kick hard into the corner on what is likely a hard and fast surface. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – TIMELY ADVICE WIN RACE 4 PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC looks to have found his race. Second to Cut The Talk, third to Lady Tornado and Bake Some Maybes, third to Marmooga and Rock This Town and then second to Supportive when sitting off the track throughout. Given the fact he lays in so badly in his races would love to see him ridden to lead and follow the fence. This is very winnable and he’s in form and fit. Now or never. BOLD STREET comes on quickly from her first-up run at York. She finished second to Edmond in a Geraldton C2. That’s great form for this. CONTENTO BOY won a couple of races in Broome. Prior grass form at Belmont Park wasn’t horrible. MAIDMY WAY can go well fresh. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC WIN RACE 5 ANNA’S BOY looks well suited to this C2 at Kalgoorlie. Scratched from Belmont Park on Wednesday to save for the opening meeting at the KBRC and didn’t give up the chase first-up at York. Looks more a 1400-1600m type so the extra 100m helps and from the gate Tash Faithfull (who rides Kalgoorlie as well as anyone) can have him parked just behind the speed and from there he gets every chance. ABLOH joins the stables of MR Peter Fernie and he did run second to Hibiscus Lady in a 1300m 60+ at Belmont last preparation. Keep safe. DAWN AMNESTY has had a long preparation in Esperance but continues to race well. VANCOUVER LAD seems to go lengths better at Kal than Esperance. Improver. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – ANNA’S BOY WIN RACE 6 MEN’S CLUB should go close to rounding out a big meeting on paper for Gaerth and Fernie (both father and son). Think 1200m is about on his distance limit but showed last start at Ascot that he goes pretty close to seeing it out. Finished only 2L off Miss Field, Born To Talk and Bourbon Beau and prior to that down the straight finished less than a length off Madam Kisses and subsequent winners Famous Jurney and Miss Field. Great race for him to jump and run. SATURDAY SUN raced well throughout the Esperance season and Josh Brown makes excellent use of the ZJP claim. WISE WORDS can box seat on the back of Men’s Club and enjoy a gun run. ROSEBUSH returns off a 6 week freshen. Kyza have her humming no doubt. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – MEN’S CLUB WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 4,5,7,8,9 2 1,2 2,5,7 Market Market
