Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on October 28, 2021October 28, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SECRET LAIR has his first start for Peter Fernie 13 days ago and was very stiff not to win. Went down narrowly and nothing really went right for him when held up and knocked around in the middle stages of the race in a luckless defeat. Looks capable of bouncing back from that defeat and breaking through. AUNTY JEAN has shown enough over the season to win a maiden. From the draw she’ll get every opportunity. GOT LUCKY brings alternate maiden form first-up and if he kicks through to lead can definitely give cheek. BOONDI ROCKS has clearly had some issues to work through but has a level of ability. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – SECRET LAIR WIN RACE 2 KAKADU was a huge run on Cup Day when outside the handicap. Showed it was no fluke when winning last start and really did burst though gaps late when seeing clear air. With the claim of Hannah Fitzgerald meets a number of rivals better at the weights for having beaten them home last start. Great chance to go back to back from the inside draw. KNIGHT TEMPEST is a very capable galloper on his day and it looks like John Lugg has him back somewhere near his best. He’ll take holding out late. PROZONE can roll to the top in a race without much speed. Last time he looked like leading without pressure he was $26 into $4 on Hannans Day. JAKESTAR is going better than numerical form suggests. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – KAKADU WIN RACE 3 THERE’S A CHANCE makes his own luck in front and since being transferred up to the emerging stables of Nick Carapellotti has been a revelation. Won a C2 1600 and a C2 1760 back to back and then beaten in the final stride in a 58+ 1600 and a 60+ Graduation on Cup Day. Fresh a month between runs and is a winner off 35 days previously. Straight to the top and from there they all have to run him down. LITTLE SES has had a great season in the Goldfields and continues to race well. DALSWINTON has been up for an eternity but is still hitting the line. TOWN HALL will get better at every run for John Arthur Mason. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – THERE’S A CHANCE WIN RACE 4 MEET JOE BLACK took the step from maiden into C2 company last start when winning at 1600m leading throughout. Comes back to 1400m here but after the claim for Jett Stanley looks well suited again. Now that he’s starting to put it all together he can string a few together and Dave Smith does a super job with these tried types and gets them to keep improving. ORNAMETAL BELLE was a solid run last start. Like the use of Rosie Mahony’s claim. BLUE TURNS TO GREY put the writing on the wall fresh. Versatile galloper who will head to Esperance and win races. BYE FELICIA is drawn to get the perfect run. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – MEET JOE BLACK WIN RACE 5 YOYOS has been a work in progress for Team Fernie with the mare finding bad luck and doing things wrong on occasion. Looks like they’ve ironed out all the creases in her manners now and she can continue her way through the grades at the back end of the season. THE HAITIAN POET was eye catching on Cup Day when savaging the line. Didn’t get a lot of luck last start when getting squeezed up along the fence and then being upgraded to third on Stewards Protest. MORE SNITZEL brings alternate form through the picnics. Handy enough on the grass on his day. BORN SPICY has been going well. 1200m may be a stretch. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – YOYOS WIN RACE 6 SCANDOLO has definitely turned a corner in the last month or so. Had no luck four starts ago when knocked around in traffic in the home straight. Astutely located by smart punters three starts back when well supported at odds and getting the cash. Pulled himself into the ground two back and then was excellent last start behind Kakadu and Knight Tempest. Expecting that form to hold up earlier in the program and look good by race 6. DEVINE BEAST has proven a difficult mare to follow. Clearly has ability and clearly has a turn of speed but lacking a killer blow at the minute. ALCINA is a model of consistency and is no doubt back in work because Josh Brown has got nervous about her horse of the year title. NEUROLOGIC is quick and should improve fitness wise. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – SCANDOLO WIN RACE 7 TAJMALI was heavily commissioned last start and the money was spot on. Didn’t get the chocolates but went down fighting in the final few strides. This looks a great little race on paper with Solarize, Hayan Lad, Watto’s Fury and even Greywolf in scintillating form on the dirt. From the draw and in a race without a great deal of speed Castle should be able to stalk Watto’s Fury’s every move and prove hard to hold out. WATTO’S FURY is a great money spinner. Runs for Bullet Staples and coming back to 1100m looks a big bonus. SOLARIZE is flying and with the turn of speed he is showing could easily head to town and be competitive. HAYAN LAD is the beneficiary of the claim and can do it tough in his races. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – TAJMALI WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,5,6,7 1,5 3,5,6 2,4,8 Market Market
