Scott Embry’s Saturday Esperance Preview Posted on February 17, 2023February 17, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 COUSIN NICCI deserves another chance. Third down the straight at Pinjarra, narrow second over 1200m at Esperance (when ducking back to the inferior ground along the cutaway) and then settled a mile off them in a race dominated on speed behind Mrs Kangaroo and Lost Smile. Drawn to get every chance. MINOR DETAIL is E2 but arguably has some of the stronger form for this race. Beaten 5.5L by Let’s Erupt and 3.75L by Another Chino (Tallangatta in third) is pretty handy for Esperance. SILVER SAX has been racing well for Bruce Hyde. WE WONDER WHY made an impression at her first start for Ricky Moss. Numbers: 12 – 14 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – COUSIN NICCI WIN RACE 2 OH SOPHIA has put in two big runs in Esperance. Has missed the kick on both occasions which is concerning, however, if she could leave the gates cleanly and take up a more prominent position (did finish second to Currimundi from the breeze one day) then she would be very hard to beat. GIANCANA raced wide throughout last start. Prior to that was a solid second behind Electric Rose. Think she’s ready to win and Alan Kennedy is a handy booking. From the gate she should get her chance. DAWN AMNESTY has enough ability and a good enough turn of foot, she just needs conditions to suit. MY BOY CHRIS has put in back to back strong efforts for Helen Harding. Numbers: 12 – 3 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – OH SOPHIA WIN RACE 3 MAGNIFORCE is nearly impossible to run down when he’s on song in this grade. On the flip side he can also throw in the towel and be beaten 20L on occasion. Hard horse to follow but after the 3kg claim for Rosie Mahony (who should be the ideal rider for a horse like him) he has appeal on the eachway. Undefeated 3 from 3 at the Esperance 1200. AL QUEPONE was a big winner at his Esperance debut. Put in his best run in 6 months. NOBLE REFELCTION had two runs to start the season and has now had a freshen. Always a top 4 player in this grade and provided the inside pad is alright he’ll be in the finish. MARKET STRYKE comes back to 1200m which is a big query. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – MAGNIFORCE EACHWAY RACE 4 LEADING MAN continues to race in great order. He’s rock hard fit, he’s honest and he is versatile. Think that Kayla Cross can get across into a first four position even from the wide gate and if he gets across without burning too much petrol and without being caught deep then he looks to have found another winnable race. BLAZING PASSION suffered her first defeat since arriving in Esperance when going under to Leading Man in a C5 at $1.80. Comes into this a month between runs and is drawn awkwardly in barrier 8 but she’s been impressive so far. FAIR JUSTICE finally broke through to score a deserving win last start. Like the father/son stablemate Market Stryke in the previous the only query is the drop back to 1200m at this stage of the preparation. SATURDAY SUN will have admirers back in trip. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – LEADING MAN EACHWAY RACE 5 MEXI COLA looks to have found his most winnable race in a while. His last two victories have been at 58+ level and since his most recent win in an Esperance 58+ mile in February 2022 he has raced in higher grade than this at 8 of 10. He only finished 1.5L off Wheatstack Thief, Kallaroo and Deel Red in a 68+ mile most recently and he’s a proven weight carrier. Nice placement. PATROCITY should only keep improving start to start considering just how long he had away from racing. Handy horse for the region. GALAHS DO ROAR isn’t easy to catch but with no weight on her back she can sit back and have last crack. KENNY THE KING is better suited back in trip. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – MEXI COLA WIN RACE 6 KALLAROO was beaten narrowly by Wheatstack Thief last start when held up for clear running on straightening and then was disappointed for clear running and bumped in the last 100. Meets that galloper 1kg better at the weights and Jarrad Noske jumps aboard. Looks ready to win. WHEATSTACK THEIF actually lay outwards in the concluding stages last start which was new for him; lays inwards badly 90% of the time. He measured up in this grade and he seems to run for Kayla Cross. BABY BLUES has looked a new horse since heading down to Esperance. AL DI LA produced a shock win at odds two back. Always a blow out chance. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – KALLAROO WIN RACE 7 ABOARD is a hit and miss mare. Two starts ago she beat home subsequent winner Lucie Manette comfortably when running home off the back of a strong tempo. Was a sit and sprint affair last start and she was left flat footed. Think Jarrad Noske can put her into the race in this and she’ll go round double figures. FREE SOLO will have plenty of admirers with the senior hoop going back on. He is a one paced animal who needs to be wound up and the apprentice riders simply won’t suit him. Alan Kennedy is the ideal rider for a horse like him. ALL ON BLACK was a better run than it reads on paper last start. BELLINI BOY went around in the Port Hedland and Newman Cups last preparation. Great return to racing on the grass. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – ABOARD EACHWAY Market Market
