Scott Embry’s Saturday Collie Preview Posted on October 21, 2021October 21, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HOIST THE COLOURS should nearly lead this and if he does find the top he should prove very hard to run down in the opener on Collie Cup Day. Bruce Watkins has had this horse for two starts and he has finished fourth behind Passion Prince and emphatic Wednesday winner Dias and faded late to finish midfield behind Success Play at 1300m. Back to 1100m, Northam provincial maiden to a Collie maiden and drawn to lead. Looks a bet. DEMITO has a set of shakes on. This little mare has shown enough to be winning better races than a Collie maiden. Only issue is that she gets back. MASTER BUDDHA will no doubt come out running. MR KOHANA gets a lovely run along the rail. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – HOIST THE COLOURS WIN RACE 2 ARTIC BLUE has 61kg to carry but should enjoy a lovely run over the top of the speed. Gritty win at Toodyay two starts ago in a similar quality and grade of race to this and can be forgiven for the flop at York. No reason why he can’t bounce back. BACKTOBEVERLEY is a 9 year old who returns fresh off a NW dirt campaign. If Mollie Clark bounces the gates, he’s a live chance in this. INDISISIVE is zippy and draw inside them can kick through to hold the top. MASSA MAC will be back in traffic but can grow wings on his day. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – ARTIC BLUE WIN RACE 3 LOOKONCHINA looks like getting his best chance yet to break through for a maiden win. Form looks very ordinary on paper in WA having never finished within 7L of the winner but this is a much weaker maiden than he has seen recently and his form over East was sitting on top of the speed. Chris Graham takes the ride and from the inside draw think he’s every chance of finding the front. Could see a different horse if he manages to find the fence. PRETTY ADMIRABLE is in a similar boat. Shown nothing to date but this looks an even weaker race than recent assignments and there’s no natural leader. SEEKANUGGET is going quite well (relative to these). DUCHEES DEMERIT showed enough on debut to warrant a top 4 spot. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – LOOKONCHINA WIN RACE 4 WELD was savaging the line at Toodyay when resuming 2 months between runs coming off the back of a NW preparation in Port Hedland and Roebourne. Drops 1kg into this race and Mollie Clark just needs an ounce of luck at some stage to get him through traffic. SPORTY SPICE on the other hand drops in weight significantly and looks like finding the front and staying out of trouble. Building into the campaign. TOMMY TO JACK went close in a provincial race two starts ago. Reproduces that and he’s hard to beat. SOUTHERN TURF has raced in far better races than this since arriving in WA. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – WELD WIN RACE 5 SCHOOLING won the Newman Cup back in August and has since had two starts back on the grass. Ran fourth behind Regal City, The Cat Ratcher and subsequent winner Miss Zedel at Kalgoorlie and then last Saturday at Ascot raced outside the handicap when finishing second last in a re-handicapped 72+. This is much more his kind of race and after the claim for Hannah Fitzgerald looks very well in. Nice race for him the Cup. HIGH MIST could be on the quick back up off 3 days from Northam. Ran a ripping race behind Wee Ripper in a C5. If he handles the back-up he’s nearly the one to beat. RAYARNIE is fresh and capable. COSTA LANTE can put in a ripper from time to time. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – SCHOOLING WIN RACE 6 WOODBUG and KLONDIKE KENNY have been up for an eternity but somehow Dennis Couper and his bucket hat keep them going and keep them racing in fine fashion. WOODBUG is having his 21st run of the preparation dating back to July of 2020 with less than 40 days between every run in between. Incredible training performance and this looks yet another winnable race for the hardy 7 year old. KLONDIKE KENNY is no stranger to carrying weight and looks a big danger to the stablemate with even luck from an awkward draw. DEMERITISE is a handy little mare for these kinds of races. THE FINEST is hard to catch but his trial was lovely. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – WOODBUG WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,4,6,8,9 1,2,3,7,9 1,2,5 1,2,5,9 Market Market
