Scott Embry’s Saturday Carnarvon Preview Posted on May 16, 2025May 16, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 THE COOLAKIN KING will be looking to run them ragged in the opening meeting of the Carnarvon season. Usually barrier 1 is not the best gate, however, generally speaking the exception to the rule is when you’re able to lead and that’s exactly what Rocky Cheung is likely to do. He’s fit, he’s in form and he’ll be jumping and running. IRONCLAD BOY And SOUTHERN SCANDAL have their first start on the dirt and both have been racing well at Geraldton late in their season. RAGING BEAUTY went better on the dirt than the grass last season. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – THE COOLAKIN KING WIN RACE 2 WISE WORDS had a wonderful season at Carnarvon for Ray Malpass and considering she beat home subsequent winner Pretty Devine in a 52+ at Narrogin when sitting in the breeze it’s easy to say that she’s in as good, if not better form in 2025 than she was leading into the dirt season in 2024. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE has his second start for Peter Daly and his first start on the dirt. Going to be a follower of Alex Hearn on the dirt with his aggressive riding style. PRIMATIVE is first-up, no trial but dirt proven. HEARTFORD HOUSE won at the opening meeting last year. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – WISE WORDS WIN RACE 3 MOORUMBINE has been a model of consistent throughout his career but recent runs in Geraldton have been near career best for the 8 year old. He won first-up in a 58+, was narrowly defeated by Gold Keeper second-up and then was only 2.8L off Blue Rocket in a 70+ at his most recent. Given 6 weeks between runs to attack the opening meeting and is capable of coming out running. TALKING HEADS can punch through along the inside into a prominent spot and may even look to lead. WUHAN WARRIOR is 0 from 12 at 1000m. Bizarre for an on speed type. UNDERCOVER SNIPER next best. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – MOORUMBINE WIN RACE 4 LOONA DAWN should be hard to run down here. She’s drawn to work forwards and settle over the top of the speed, she’s got pace to burn, she’s got fitness on her side and after the Ava Catarino claim she’s only got 53.5kg on her back. Right profile for a 1000m maiden. LE TROY has his first start for new trainer Ray Malpass and the recent 950m trial at Lark Hill was good enough to win this. Would have preferred if it was 1200 to 1000 but still a watch. DREAM ILLUSION was only 1.4L off No Brainer at Belmont Park last prep. PRIZED BENEFIT really caught the eye at Geraldton last start at 150-1. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – LOONA DAWN WIN RACE 5 AWESOME LILY should be a great acquisition for the region. Outstanding shopping by new owner Barry Evans in the Inglis Online sale, he’s now got a Westspeed filly who can race in Geraldton/Carnarvon for seasons and should be winning races. Great effort fresh behind Liberty Dame and this is weak. DEVILS I dropped back to 1200m last start at Dongara which looked on paper unsuitable but he still held his own behind Dirty Chai who has since won at Geraldton. WESTERN IMPACT showed glimpses last prep but just doesn’t have much gate speed. DIAMOND TIPPED a watch for the new yard. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – AWESOME LILY WIN RACE 6 MONTY ZOOMER is an all or nothing commodity but also feel like his best racing is going to be on the dirt when allowed to stride. The C2 effort two back behind Clever Combat is easily good enough to win this. DAIYAMONDO has been well supported in betting on occasion recently and while she tends to get back she can sustain a run around them. WHO’S YOUR MAMA may not have much recent form to look at on paper, but Carnarvon is her home ground. SKITTISH would be attractive if this was 1600+. Does he have 1400m speed? Numbers: 7 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – MONTY ZOOMER WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,4 2,4,5,6,9,11 2,4,6 3,5,7 Market Market
