Scott Embry’s Saturday Bunbury Preview Posted on March 4, 2021March 6, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FAIR GRACE has looked impressive at trials. In her first trial she sat leader’s back behind Quintus (in this race) and looked to have plenty to give when untested and bolting to the eye. At her second trial she landed out the back in a slowly run 950m and had them covered in a matter of two strides. Tough draw to contend with but looks to have some X-Factor. CAPE LEOPARD is on debut in WA and the three NSW 3yo maiden performances when last in work are excellent form for a race like this. Likely to open double figures and guaranteed to jump single figures. QUINTUS has shades re-attached and Pateman should roll to the top. MY HIDDEN JOURNEY can be forgiven for the first-up performance when tramping wide throughout. Numbers: 11 – 8 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – FAIR GRACE WIN RACE 2 LADIES OF LONDON is deliberately kept fresh and well placed into this 58+. Winner of two from four this preparation in style and the two runs in between included a fifth in a 66+ fillies and mares feature and a solid second over the short course to speedy mare Time to Sizzle. Should land in a prominent position, proven weight carrier and looks hard to beat. PINK ‘N’ GRAY won well first-up last preparation and is ultra-consistent. CHIEF ARCHER drops back in trip after a minor setback. Going well this campaign. MINI WINNIE has shades added for the first time and ran a ripper alongside Ladies of London in late 2020. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – LADIES OF LONDON WIN RACE 3 VADETTE DE STAR was crunched on debut and the money was spot on. She trialled like a star and tackled handy 3 year old 62+ quality as an unraced filly, in the end made them look second rate. Steps to 1200m, drawn a gate to settle midfield with a smother and if she can unleash a similar turn of acceleration then she can remain undefeated. SECRET PLAN lost no admirers first-up over 1000m when matching motors with the undefeated Triple Missile over the last 600. He will drop out and come with a big run late. ISEERED ISEERED is drawn to box seat and can be a sharp improver. DARK ASSAULT can go on with it now that he has been gelded. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – VADETTE DE STAR WIN RACE 4 EXCELLENT DREAM has really come of age in the last few months. Was a horse who flashed huge ability but was overshadowed by his poor racing manners and bad habits. Still runs around under pressure but is starting to build an imposing record. They will fly over the 1000 and he is drawn a gate where Paul Harvey can have him wherever he wants. HOBOKEN is bursting to win a race. His 7 day back-up record is far from flattering but he maps to get the right run. ZIEBELL burst onto the scene late in 2020 with blistering 1000m speed. He will come out guns blazing. JERICHO MISSILE will be chasing but put in some massive performances in 78+ and feature sprints at Belmont Park over the short course. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – EXCELLENT DREAM WIN RACE 5 ABSOLUTE is absolutely flying. Comes up in grade and races outside the handicap but in a re-handicapped 72+ he gets his chance. With plenty of speed drawn in various parts of the line they should get along at a solid clip and the way he is going he can definitely nab them late. Seems to have relished Lucy Warwick’s engagement and the form out of the Lipstick Flickers race is really holding up. CRYSTAL SPIRIT is a two-time 72+ winner in a 69+. Returned from a long absence when last in work and was highly competitive in tougher races than this. Recent trial was excellent and he gets a soft run. CHARLETON EDDIE is a talented 3 year old who is well placed against the older horses. Bit of a query on where he lands in the run. WEAPONSON may have to go back from the draw but is going really well. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – ABSOLUTE EACHWAY RACE 6 TRIPLE MISSILE is undefeated after three and looks likely to land in an ideal position in running, with a tactical advantage over the favourite. Kissonallforcheeks will be awfully hard to beat but in the small field, in a sit and sprint affair Paul Harvey holds all the aces. Showed last start that he can sit right over the tempo and still show his effortless turn of acceleration. KISSONALLFORCHEEKS can’t draw a gate and looks destined to do it tough again. Last start was caught three deep no cover in a race without any level of tempo. This looks deja vu for her. Will need a big steer from Chris Parnham. MAGICAL DREAM is returning off a setback but is highly talented. INDIGO BLUE an improver on the back-up with the shades on. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – TRIPLE MISSILE WIN RACE 7 FA’LION MASCHINE has been catching the eye at every start this preparation and now with the senior rider going on, finally drawn a gate, on the 7-day back-up and heading back to Bunbury she gets her chance in a wide-open race. Always needs luck in her races but should open in double figures. LIVING THE DREAM and PHONEME have clearly the strongest race form and are both extremely well placed into this race by astute stables. The only query for both of them is where do they land in running from terrible barriers? AMELIA’S CONTRAIRE may be locked away in traffic but if she sees daylight will flash at them hard. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – FA’LION MASCHINE EACHWAY RACE 8 LAST OF THE LINE is one of the most naturally talented animals in WA. The scary part is that he is getting better and better with racing and the faster they go the better he finishes off. Drops back from 1800 to 1400m but should land in an ideal position with likely leader and main danger Son of a God well within his sights. Every time they raise the bar, he clears it. SON OF A GOD has blinkers added for the first time and most will expect the instruction to be lead. If he finds the top and controls the tempo, he looks the hardest to beat. SAMIZDAT was enormous in the Pinjarra Classic. His final furlong was one of the best you’ll see. Will need to reproduce again from a nightmare alley. WESTERN TEMPLE is always the forgotten horse. Can’t do much more than what he did first-up. Numbers: 4 – 14 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – LAST OF THE LINE WIN RACE 9 MONTELENA looks to have a stranglehold on the Furphy Bunbury Cup. Went through the grades brilliantly at Belmont Park over the winter and stamped herself as the horse they would have to beat in the 2021 Country Cups. Resumed with an eye-catching effort at a mile at Pinjarra and then simply ran into a freakish horse called Last of the Line in the Detonator Stakes. Stepping out to 2000m suits her and they did kick panels away from the rest of the field in that race. Hers to lose. DIVINE SHADOW has been super at his two runs in this preparation and has raced without any luck. TRAP FOR FOOLS was weighted to win the Detonator but was always destined to do far too much work. This looks a more suitable map for him and he is more than capable of carrying the weight. PADDY’S SHADOW can stalk Montelena every step of the way from the draw. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – MONTELENA WIN RACE 10 RELIABLE STAR is a maiden filly in a 60+ Graduation. Very rare that you would entertain such a horse but she could well be joining into the Oaks and Derby after this. Stepped up sharply from a 1200 to an 1800 last week and was stiff not to go closer after copping a decent hip and shoulder in the concluding stages. Backs up off 7 days, steps up in trip again and looks a promising filly. MAROCCHINO is drawn in the BTC Members Carpark and will need a 10/10 from Paul Harvey but his race form is excellent and Lou Luciani did flirt with the idea of starting him in the Bunbury Cup. BEAT THE BELL similarly will get well back in running but she has been attacking the line. RIVALRY GALORE showed some of his 3 year old form at his last two starts. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – RELIABLE STAR WIN Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 1,2,6,7,8,9,12,13 2,4,14 7 1,3,5,11 Market Market
