Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on May 27, 2021May 30, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 AIN’T NO OTHER MAN ran fourth behind Flying Missile, Ultimate Command and Astrape in a high rating 2 year old SWP race before stepping from 1000 straight out to 1400m. Got the pie run leader’s back and shot up the inside when Rommel’s Command wobbled round the corner and won soft. Only rises 1kg, maps to get an identical run and looks again hard to beat. WRITTEN EXCEED was scratched from Wednesday to save for this. Visors on, Pike on and drawn a gate to settle right over the speed. ROMMEL’S JEUNEY and ROMMEL’S COMMAND both look strong on pace types who will win plenty of races between them. Leaning to ROMMEL’S JEUNEY as a more tractable type. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – AIN’T NO OTHER MAN WIN RACE 2 GRACEFUL GIRL was all the rage at her return to racing and lost no admirers. Always hard to get back and concede them a head start over 1100m at Ascot especially with a few traffic issues. She ran the fastest last 1000, 800, 600, 400 & 200 overall and the quickest final three individual furlong splits of the meeting (faster than Elite Street, Cup Night, Panzdown). Real writing on the wall type of run and now stepping out to 1200m at Belmont Park she looks the one. HOT ZED is the real deal and actually gets weight on Graceful Girl for beating her home last start with the use of the 3kg claim. Impossible to fault him and yet most will (again) tip against him. TIMELY OUTBURST stepped strongly from 1000 to 1300 last weekend. Likely to breeze outside Hot Zed and attack at the corner. DIVINE PAIR is a noted wet tracker. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – GRACEFUL GIRL WIN RACE 3 OHBEEH looks well suited in these Westspeed Platinum Handicaps and really well weighted after the claim for Laqdar Ramoly. Likely to come out running and look for a position right over the speed. If he gets across without burning too much petrol, he looks a live chance in an open race. Strong recent trial and if you’re going to catch him it seems to be fresh and on wet tracks. SNIPPY MISS ran really well at her return to racing and her only win to date was on a bog track. QUEEN OF SOUL beat up on moderate maiden opposition. This is harder but she looks progressive. I’M PRETTY is a talented mare when right. Her recent trial suggests she’s in great order. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – OHBEEH EACHWAY RACE 4 AGENT JAY will open double figures and sneaks under the radar first-up no trial. Has sufficient gate speed to get across form the wide gate to either cross and lead or sit outside of Comes a Time should Paul Harvey kick him out. Went through the grade when last in work and his last two efforts in 66+ grade were excellent. Finished 2L off Cryptic Love, Solaia, Last of the Line and Comfort Me at 1400 before breezing outside Mood Swings and matching motors with him over 1200. Keep safe at a price. COMES A TIME has raced without any luck at all this preparation. Three runs in – three times raced wide throughout. A winner for Paul Harvey and finally drawn a gate. HOW’S THE SERENITY and TIME SCALE are a pair of Simon Miller fillies who both map well and are well placed against the older horses. Good form race this. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet – AGENT JAY EACHWAY RACE 5 BLACK SHADOW really gets his chance on Saturday at an eachway quote. In the metro area does his best work at Belmont Park (tick), does his best work on rain affected tracks (tick) and does his best work when able to track a genuine tempo throughout (enter Lord Lonsdale). Always goes round at a price, rarely runs a bad race and is knocking on the door. SENTIMENTAL QUEEN is awfully hard to tip past. Hasn’t beaten much in terms of opposition this campaign but she is doing it in style and with arrogance. She’ll enjoy the run of the race under William Pike and you’ll get a backable (or saveable) quote. BORN TO TRY and BLACKWATER BAY are both last start winners and emerging staying types on trial at the trip. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – BLACK SHADOW EACHWAY RACE 6 SON SON is just a readymade race horse. Has sat back in races and run them down and has lead throughout to victory in time (first-up at 1100) and when controlling the tempo (last start). Highly versatile, highly progressive and well placed by the astute Adam Durrant yard. With the use of Laqdar Ramoly’s claim he stays at the same weight, in the same grade having won last start. If Zephyr Queen or I’m Icey want to run then he can take a sit and again looks the one to beat. ISLAND MISSILE will likely be a juicy eachway quote. Nothing wrong with the Guns of Navarone form and he maps to get a lovely run in transit. AMELIA’S CONTRAIRE is proven off the freshen. MINI WINNIE would be a big chance if he reproduced his Billy Ain’t Silly run. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – SON SON WIN RACE 7 MOSCHARD is a hard horse to catch but has returned to racing in great form. Ran out of his skin first-up when splitting Miss Conteki and Nerodio, second-up sat deep and still hit the line behind Angelic Miss and then last time out was held up for the entire length of the straight looking for clear running. Goes well at Belmont, goes particularly well on rain affected surfaces and finally draws a gate. CAPTAIN KINK is a query at 1400m but he gets it cheap out in front with little to no pressure and is a proven wet tracker. NAUGHTY BY NATURE and LEADING GIRL are both going to settle rearward and make their runs together. Both have powerful turns of acceleration. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – MOSCHARD EACHWAY RACE 8 MASSIMO never got a look at them in the Roma Cup. Was well commissioned in betting ($14 into $8) and being drawn outside of Free Trade meant that he got shuffled a pair further back than anticipated. Looked to be bolting and went back to trials for a track gallop because he never got clear. Skipped around Lark Hill breaking 55 seconds and now returns to the Belmont Sprint. If he can kick through to box seat, he’ll handle the track conditions and should play a part at the eachway quote. CUP NIGHT was enormous from an impossible position in running. Clearly returned in career best form and now draws a gate to settle in a more favourable position. ELITE STREET looked to peak in the last 50 after getting clear first-up and should take benefit from the outing. Tough map for Parnham to navigate. DANCE MUSIC impossible to knock and fool proof as a type. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 3 – 13 Suggested Bet – MASSIMO EACHWAY RACE 9 NERODIO gets his chance back to Belmont Park. All 6 of his career wins are at his ‘home ground’ and he (like Battle Storm and Eeyore Wayz) is undefeated at the Belmont 1000. Will need to jump cleanly with such an abundance of speed engaged but provided he stays within striking distance looks a genuine winning chance. EEYORE WAYZ went through the grades brilliantly when last in work. His WFA run in the Prince of Wales suggests he has plenty more wins in him. BATTLE STORM is 5 from 5 at the Belmont 1000. Trialled like a proper horse and has real X-Factor. BOOMTASTIC trialled up well and is always hard to run down over these sprint trips.
