Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on May 22, 2025May 22, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE is a nice horse. It’s taken him a while to put it all together but they’ve now worked out how to ride him – pure speed. He’s a high speed, high pressure animal and while he’s drawn outside of Exporose and Some Sort expect that Brandon Louis will ride him like the best horse in the race and keep attacking until he gets the position he wants. WICKED VENOM is the horse who will most appreciate the speed battle up top, he’ll sit back and have one last crack at them. First two runs this prep have been excellent. MASAMUNE bolted in down the straight fresh and then ran well from a different position in run second-up. EXPOROSE has won her last three – but against country horses. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE WIN RACE 2 FAT ROY SLIM again heads to a 66+ 2200m where he’s forced to carry 62kg but he did exactly that last start when getting within a length of Zaza Rock who he meets 2kg better this time around. There’s no doubt it’s a massive ask but with some rain around during the week it will only enhance his winning chances. ZAZA ROCK beat him home last start, should only be getting fitter and again maps to enjoy a beautiful stalking run in transit behind a moderate tempo. BAYHARA was gifted the race last week. First 1500m run 22L slower than average. TIFF’S LAD was back to somewhere near his best last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – FAT ROY SLIM WIN RACE 3 LATE ARRIVAL scratched from a winnable race on Thursday to save for this. All three of his runs in WA have been outstanding and if the rains do eventuate (sceptical) there’s no problem in the world for him. He’s versatile, he’s tough and the Dug Another Hole form held up in a 66+ last weekend. Like the horse. BONDI BAY improved sharply last start when beaten a neck by Snippy Sean and is likely to get a soft track to suit. About ready. FOREVER BOY was a big run in replay last week off a long absence. Was bolting last 150m with nowhere to go. SNIPPY SEAN is no star but got over them impressively last start. Numbers: 3 – 11 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – LATE ARRIVAL EACHWAY RACE 4 POND MASTER has just returned a better animal this time in. His trial was super, his first-up run he should have beaten Sixinch Heels at 1200m, second-up he was drawn a lemon and never got into the contest in an on-speed dominated event and third-up he dropped back to 1200m but extended away from them powerfully late. This looks another great race for him. ROCK ‘N’ THE JAM is produced first-up, no trial at 1400m with 60kg. Big ask but a horse with a big future. ELITE MISSILE seemingly goes best fresh so the gap between runs might be a blessing? KING HIT can roll to the top or park in the breeze and returned well. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – POND MASTER WIN RACE 5 PLAYIN’ IT SWEET went into her race day debut over 9 weeks between outings so should be taking a massive step forward in fitness and with race experience on her side happy to put her on top. She just looked to peak in the last 100m in a high speed 1100m and now finds a more suitable Belmont 1200. TOO DARN STORMY looks a nice type. Have liked both trials under William Pike (who importantly sticks after riding Playin’It Sweet on debut) and while he’s drawn a really sticky alley think that he’ll be working home powerfully late. BANNERED was hammered in betting fresh but didn’t fire a shot. NONEOFYOURBUSINESS leads or box seats. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 2 – 15 Suggested Bet – PLAYIN’ IT SWEET EACHWAY RACE 6 AMJAAD ran some enormous races last preparation for her new trainer Summer Dickson and was stiff not to pinch a race. Her recent 950m trial at Lark Hill was sharp and she’s got the versatility to use her barrier to advantage and park up over the speed. Considering her main dangers are drawn barrier 10/14 and 12/14 and concede her a headstart she becomes an increasingly attractive eachway bet. SIX SHOOTER is the one that the market is likely to come for: 3 year old against the older horses, last start winner, progressive, high strike rate trainer, in form hoop – all makes sense, apart from the map. MANHATTAN STRIP beat home Camera Action fresh who won the $100,000 Provincial Championship Final on Opening Day. MORE THAN ENUFF next. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – AMJAAD EACHWAY RACE 7 BUSTLER could not have been any more impressive in his recent 1000m trial at Belmont Park. When asked by Steve Parnham he really quickened and that’s a brilliant indicator that Neville Parnham has him right on track for the Belmont Sprint / Hyperion Stakes before heading out an aiming up at another Railway Stakes. He’s a Group One winner, he’s proven WFA and he can hold a spot midfield. Eachway all day. WEST STAR showed his class and his quality in the Northam Stakes when powering away from rivals. Given the manner of his victory it’s hard to see anything from that race turning the tables on him? COMFORT ME is racing like he wants further. WESTERN EMPIRE always well respected. Numbers: 3 – 14 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – BUSTLER EACHWAY Same Race Multi – West Star (Top 3) + Buster (Top 3) West Star was awesome in the Northam Stakes when extending away brilliantly from a similar line-up of rivals. He’ll need a big ride from barrier 13 but if he lands three deep cover he’ll be hard to hold out again, while Bustler is a Group One winner and trialled outrageously well recently. Top 3 + Top 4. RACE 8 STORMCHASER returned in a blaze of glory at Ascot. It was a day where you had to be on speed / on fence to win and he won impressively against the pattern, sustaining a big run from the 600m and showing that he’s ready to take the next step this preparation. They’ve found the ideal set up for him in a 78+ 1200m and he’ll end up in a similar position in running and hopefully produces an identical result. LUVNWAR was a super trial from a mare who can sprint well fresh. Nearly won an Asian Beau Stakes first-up last prep. WIND AND THE LION was a nice return and is far better suited over 1200m. Think he’ll get a mile this prep. ICE PICK NICK rarely runs a bad race and is just as capable on speed as off speed. Numbers: 5 – 11 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – STORMCHASER WIN RACE 9 WUBIN GOLD is a fresh mare. If you’re going to catch her, it’s first-up or second-up and she clearly does her best work when saved up for one last run so regardless of where she’s drawn in the line she’s likely to settle out the back. You’ll need eachway to entertain her in a capacity line-up where Nobellity could stretch them out over many lengths – and you’ll get that here. NOBELLITY is not without a chance at 20-1. She’ll cross them and if she does she’ll be in front for a fair way. Super effort last start out of her grade in a 72+. Just doesn’t want any rain. AHYEAHRIGHTO will continue to improve with racing but like many of these will need a big steer from a tricky alley. CHOLLIMA has the L600 necessary to win this. Numbers: 8 – 11 – 9 – 15 Suggested Bet – WUBIN GOLD EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,3,7,8 1,2,3,14 5,9,11 8,9,11,14,15 Market Market
