Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on July 26, 2018July 31, 2018 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 DUDEMANBRO is an out and out stayer. If the track is still water logged from Wednesday’s downpour it only plays into his hands. RED ARMY will be short for a horse who is up in grade, however, with only 55kg, Pike and the ideal draw he’ll be very hard to roll. AT THE READY was a huge run in the Strickland Stakes. If he can reproduce that he would be winning. THE CRUEL SEA has never been past 1760m in his life but races like it won’t be an issue. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – DUDEMANBRO EACHWAY Race 2 KELLY’S CALLISTO looked home at the furlong when Kirby pulled the trigger but really hit a wall at the 50m mark. Ran extremely strong sections throughout the race and can bounce straight back into the winner’s circle. THE VELVET KING tasted defeat for the first time sitting outside the lead. Likely ends up in an identical spot here. ANGELIC RULER is a very nice filly. She’ll settle off them and rattle home. CLASSIC PRO is a maiden running big races into midfield. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – KELLY’S CALLISTO WIN Race 3 ARRUM BOY is one win and one second coming off the 7 day back-up. Settled back nearly last in a rapidly run 1000m race where he was never going to be suited. He is back into a winnable race. ELECTRIC LIGHT was some sort of run last start when going under as an odds on favourite. Missed the kick by 5 and held up at crucial stages. PERCEPTIVE MISS can be a sharp improver. Liked her first-up effort against older horses in a nice form race. FAIR SONARI should amble straight to the front and from there dictates. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – ARRUM BOY EACHWAY Race 4 DIA DE LA RAZA ran a big race outside the lead first-up from a spell. That form should hold up and he is proven on rain affected going. Scratched from a winnable race at Pinjarra Thursday to be saved for this. GUNS OF NAVARONE is still in the field at this stage and backing up off 3 days gets the blood flowing. RAISE A SMILE comes from a quality 3 year old race but likely settles well off them. MANTIME ridden cold has a sharp turn of foot if they’re making ground. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – DIA DE LA RAZA WIN Race 5 GEIGER GEM works forwards to sit outside likely leader Spillinova. That’s his preferred position in running and is the only horse in the field really proven in the grade. JENABEL was bolting in behind tiring horses waiting for a run last start. When she got out she bolted in. Going extremely well. MIDNIGHT SKY has failed twice when stepping up out of 56+ grade. Back in trip may suit her better than the staying journey. SPILLINOVA was spinning the wheels two starts ago and needs the track to dry out. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – GEIGER GEM EACHWAY Race 6 ABDICATOR was the beneficiary of some Pike brilliance last week when coming straight up the rails unimpeded from three back the fence when other horses were sitting off. This is no harder. ASTRONOMITE third up in his preparation, off 7 days and draws a gate to sit close handy to the speed. Should run a big race. KENSINGTON ABBEY was eye catching two starts ago and then never saw day light last time out. FRIARESQUE has been running honest and consistent races all preparation but again runs into another inform 3 year on the rise. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – ABDICATOR WIN Race 7 FLYING TIME can give a lot of cheek from outside the lead and his effort last start was enormous. Carries no weight and improves lengths with sting out of the ground. If the track cuts up he’s a chance to roll the favourite. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN has an incredibly powerful finishing burst. Ride last start will join the Pike highlight reel and he can easily win 4 on the bounce but will be very short. OUR FINEST MOMENT was a nice return to the races first-up. METEOROID is drawn awkwardly but can go back and sustain a run. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – FLYING TIME EACHWAY Race 8 MINUS LOOKS has been racing without luck for a fair while and last start really put the writing on the wall that he is ready to break back into the winner’s circle. Glenn Smith looks a nice engagement for him. PINSSON is racing ultra consistently and again lobs into the perfect spot in running from the soft gate. KISS THE BREEZE risks a possible 9 or 10 ratings points if she can knock off the older horses but was held up the entire length of the straight last week and should have figured in the finish. FLYING ROAR was disappointing last start but should find the fence here. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 14 – 7 Suggested Bet – MINUS LOOKS EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,6,9 2 4,6 2,6,14 Market Market
