Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on December 9, 2021December 14, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SAFETY BAY should kick through to lead from the inside gate and that should see her more than competitive in a small field of Westspeed Platinum horses to start the program. Has won three of her last six including victory over Ginger Flyer and her most recent placing three starts ago behind Mercanto and Trevern has certainly stood up as a form reference. Should give a good sight. QUEEN OF SOUL has always shown above average ability and promise. Simon Miller finally has her sound and she’s ready to go through the grades. This is a nice race for her and she looks a big danger. LACEVINSKY has started the preparation with a bang and SJ Wolfe has him flying. STANDOUT ROSE is drawn awkwardly and is not an easy mare to ride. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – SAFETY BAY EACHWAY RACE 2 ROCKIN RUPERT made a splash on debut. His trials were awesome and he lengthened like a nice animal late in the race to score. This is a lot tougher and he’s likely to probably go round on the shorter ide but it is hard to not be impressed with the way he won and the animal he looks like he could mature into. Going to follow up and stick with him as Sean & Jake Casey start to test the waters to see just how good he is. HE’S A SIZZLER is no slouch and his winter form should more than sufficiently hold up. Beat Trix Of The Trade and The Front Bar one day at Belmont and that’s looking like great form now. WUHAN WARRIOR had nothing go right first-up. Senior on a big bonus. THOMAS MAGNUM was never on the track in the Placid Ark. Still raw and green but clearly talented. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – ROCKIN RUPERT WIN RACE 3 BEADS, BOPPING BLUE and ULTIMATE COMMAND all come from the exact same form race behind The Front Bar in a 3 year old Plate and that looks easily the best form for this 60+ 1000m assignment. From the barrier Shaun McGruddy should have Beads sitting tucked away just in behind the speed and from there he looks like getting a great chance to return to the winner’s circle. Huge improvement first-up to second-up. BOPPING BLUE is very quick and expecting that he will get across to find the breeze or even cross to the fence. From there he’s more than capable of giving serious cheek. ULTIMATE COMMAND reunites with Brad Parnham and is drawn a gate where they can ride her for speed again. On her day she’s mighty hard to get past. AGENT KENGSINTON found traffic at crucial stages last start. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – BEADS WIN RACE 4 GOD HAS CHOSEN is looking to extend his very imposing career statistics to five wins from eight starts. Yet to miss the top 2 in his career and is an exciting proposition for the future. Last start William Pike kept him out of trouble and he bolted in winning by over 1.5L after sitting three deep for the majority of the race. Was classes above rivals and is going through the grades at the rate of knots. Paul Harvey takes over from William Pike and while he’s drawn awkwardly expecting him to have too much firepower late in the race. Very nice horse. FANGIO won first-up, no trial in a 72+ 1400m last preparation. Roy Rogers knows how to produce them fresh and this mare is another highly talented Great Southern product. GINGER FLYER has had a brilliant preparation and shows no signs of training off. Looks like she can come out underneath of Spillinova and find a nice position. SPILLINOVA is getting closer and closer. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – GOD HAS CHOSEN WIN RACE 5 PROCONSENT was enormous two starts ago behind subsequent Railway Stakes runner-up Comfort Me and then dominated a 66+ mile last start when held up into the corner with 60kg and then producing a blistering turn of foot to go straight past reasonably talented front runner Big Screen. Writing on the wall last two and see no reason why he won’t be winning again. Ideal draw and a horse who is in scintillating form all of a sudden. Think he wins again. DOM TO SHOOT was back in form last start when narrowly defeated by Bella’s Idol. Good to see him produce something after a lacklustre start to his campaign. UTGARD LOKI was climbing over heels in behind them in the same race unable to get clear at any stage. Was a form reversal run for him too. CHILI IS HOT comes out of the Fillies & Mares series and is ready for a mile. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – PROCONSENT WIN RACE 6 SPEED DREAM gets one last chance here. Has done nothing wrong this preparation (or in his career really) but has also only won the 1 from 13. First-up ran second to Secret Plan, second-up ran fourth behind Pure Devotion, Big Screen and Bragwell, third-up ran second to Big Screen and last start got a long way out of his ground from a wide gate. Drawn ideally in barrier 5, this is his best chance yet this campaign to win one. NO SURRENDER reunites with Mitchell Pateman and that’s important for him as Mitchell has ridden him to three wins and five minor placings. Different horse when leading and should find the fence here. Sharp improver. WINSALOT and NEW AMSTERDAM only come from a C3 at Northam but both showed enough to suggest they’ll measure up in a Graduation. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – SPEED DREAM WIN RACE 7 JEDI MIND returns to the races as a 4 year old after a successful 3 year old preparation. Went from a 1200m maiden win first-up through to a 3 year old Saturday win in the space of six outings over two months. Has form around The Spruiker, Real Charisma, Timely Outburst, Noble Laurence and Reign of Fire and from three back the fence he’s dangerous late with clear air. Trialled nicely and looks capable of providing Brett Pope with a bit of a boost in a lean run for the stable. CHARGE was super last start. Found the front and burnt along (9L faster than average to the 600) and battled on bravely into third behind Triple Missile and All Day Session. Likely to work again early from the draw but is quickly knocking on the door for his first WA win. BROOKLYN PIER is well placed back into a 66+. Talented 4 year old but much like Charge is likely to have to work to find a position in running. ISLAND CHARM finished second to Written Matter (subsequent winner) and third behind La Farola and God Has Chosen (subsequent winner) at her last two. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 4 – 12 Suggested Bet – JEDI MIND EACHWAY RACE 8 MIDNIGHT BLUE looks the testing material in the 2021 Towton Cup. Won the Ascot Gold Cup in style and announced himself as the horse to beat in the 2022 Perth Cup. Went into the JRA Trophy as an extremely well supported favourite when backed from $2.40 into $1.75 throughout betting and then settled in a different postcode to them in a race where Juicing Carrots had them running throughout. Looked a one paced, grinding kind of run live but in review he’s run the fastest L1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400 & 200 of the race and couldn’t have done much more than what he did in defeat. Drawn a better gate and can rebound. MAROCCHINO was given a peach by Shaun McGruddy last start and is back to the form that saw him win an Albany Cup and a Diggers Cup. STAFFORD’S LAD is building nicely towards the Perth Cup. Will need something to take him into the race. BLACK SHADOW looks like being right place, right time on the quick back-up. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 14 – 11 Suggested Bet – MIDNIGHT BLUE WIN RACE 9 BRAGWELL has finished in the money at all five runs this preparation and now looks poised to break through on the 7 day back-up. Is drawn an ideal alley to enjoy a nice run close handy to the speed and the way he has been racing in recent weeks suggests that he will enjoy the step out to 1800m. Looks a nice assignment for him on paper. HOLY ENCHANTMENT has run second in both runs back this campaign and gets out to a more suitable 1800m. Has enough talented to go through the grades. KORANIS is flying and just needs to find the right race. Senior rider aboard and proven on the back-up (1.5L win and a second to Cockney Crew in a 72+). BRAVE ANGEL was woeful last start. She’s 10L better than that. Forgive. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – BRAGWELL EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 5,6,7,11 2,4,5,8,12 4,7,11,13,14 1,3,4,10 Market Market
